bad vibes
Honestly considering carrying a brick around with me to see if people still want to cut me off at zebra crossings. Had a dude turn his head to stare at me while he nearly ran me over at a crossing and then he had the audacity to give me the ‘thanks’ hand wave… Every single day I go outside I nearly get ran over, but it’s always at crossings and not when I’m jaywalking. Pisses me off so much.
Baku@aussie.zone 1 year ago
A brick or a stick honestly isn’t a bad idea. The cops would probably get arcy if they saw you carrying a real brick, but I was reading a thread where someone else was saying the same thing in a different community the other day and apparently there’s like collapsible type bricks that you can fold out to full size. If you were to keep that in your backpack and pull it out around the corner from the crossings that always give you trouble, it’d probably still achieve the same thing, with the added affect nobody’s going to start accusing you of breaking into people’s houses

This happens to me at the one in Coburg near the Coles all the time! I get pedestrian rage 😡

Had my once-every-many-weeks check of LinkedIn on the desktop to see connection requests and the like. Found myself hit with that pang of realising how stagnant I was for years at my past role - can’t blame the workplace entirely, but I feel like I lost so much of my more passionate years while hamstrung by visa conditions. I have the freedom now but not as much excitement any more…
Something definitely needs to change. I don’t have huge ambitions but I also want to aim a little higher (in a sustainable way)… think with whatever experience I get in the next year and a half or so, I might be able to shift my career into something more interesting or substantial. Maybe do a formal qualification in spatial tech and get a gig in some cool environmental fieldwork company.
MeanElevator@aussie.zone 1 year ago
It’s weird that ‘aiming higher’ means getting a new job, more often than not.
I honestly think that workplaces, in general, pigeon hole a person into a role and that’s all.
All the best in your search and progress.
If you can get a permanent government gig, they’ll pay for your education in some cases.
just_kitten@aussie.zone 1 year ago
I think there could’ve been scope to aim higher (expand my experience) at my last place, but not with the way management turned out in the last year.
My current gig is PT government, very low-level in the scheme of things (because at this exact moment I don’t want a super challenging job), but an useful foot in the door after being denied opportunities all these years; I’ll definitely stay for a year at least and see what else opens up.
Seeing how much further people who started around the time I did in this industry have gone, it’s easy to feel a little bitter. But I can catch up and develop my own niche, I think…

Covid lockdowns did NOT help.
just_kitten@aussie.zone 1 year ago
I probably might be still at my old job but further advanced and happier (everyone might’ve been happier) if it weren’t for the impact of the lockdowns. The one upshot was that at the time, it paved the way for me to stay in this country permanently. I can’t keep blaming the lockdowns now though, I do need to move on. Next week might bring some resolution about some options in that regard

City outing with the fam today. Dinner on Lygon street. Ordered a beer and the waiter put it in front of my son. We had a chuckle and asked the waiter how old did he think my son was. The dude said 18+20 for sure.
I think it made my son’s, who is actually 14, year.

I got an ad for one of those shitty story apps where you pay like 6 bucks a month to read stories that Chatpgp thing wrote, and their ad is kinda hilarious

A Parade of Nasty Things? Were there giant politicians too?
Catfish@aussie.zone 1 year ago
While I Agee cane toads and mozzies are nasty, the magpie was rather nice 😝 There was a pretty good circus mob and many children who needed their pitch adjusted dramatically downward

With your post and CEO’s next to each other I honestly thought you were both in Footscray at the same time…
CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 1 year ago
I’m going to Daiso to buy some shit I don’t need. It’s my first time there although I vaguely remember there being one in Airport West many many moons ago or something similar. Anyway I’m off to buy some cute shit.

My new time organisation is going well to plan.
Weekends for doing household work, weekdays for doing school and art with some cooking chores and cat chores
Also got all my stuff ready to dye my hair tomorrow. It’s been 4 months . Blue black hair, yay 😃

Hating the darkness - struggle to see properly driving in the dark with the oncoming bright car headlights. I bought some yellow glasses to try. Can’t avoid it due to work.

Tonight is when the clocks become the right time again 😃
Mittens_meow@aussie.zone 1 year ago
Yes!! I couldn’t work out how to change the clock in my car, but I only drive it once a week so left it.
Nath@aussie.zone 1 year ago
The clock in my car sets the time automatically. From the radio stations. Which really sucks, as half of them are broadcasting with the wrong time. It isn’t usually an issue, as when the phone is docked it shows the phone time. But if the phone isn’t docked and I want to know the time, I need to tune to a station I know is broadcasting it correctly.
DillyDaily@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Tonight is the night I asked my partner “wait, when did the clock stop working?” and he responded “huh? We have a clock?”
Who knows when it stopped working, neither of us have looked at it for 2 years 😂
And knowing us, neither of us will bother taking it down to fix or chuck for another 2 years. It’s just wall decor now.

Going for an evening walk before dinner as it’ll be a while before it’s light at this time. Love daylight savings, I will miss it.
bacon@aussie.zone 1 year ago
I don’t mind dark mornings. I need bright evenings.

Just quickly popping into kitchen warehouse to grab some baking trays and that’s it .
Yeah right.

I have a theory that cats are actually talking to us but we can’t understand because they actually speak with a very heavy Glaswegian accent. Like Rab Nesbitt. www.youtube.com/watch?v=8k7VoFiagfs

My Woolies order arrived three hours late and turned out not to be mine at all. So I still don’t have any useful groceries and I need to find somewhere to donate a big box of nappies.

Gibsonisafluffybutt@aussie.zone 1 year ago
Oh chicken and vegetables, how I’ve missed you despite you’re blandness.
PeelerSheila@aussie.zone 1 year ago
I’ve done very little today except prepare meals for family and watch short films (thankyou to those who mentioned it in yesterday’s thread, it’s an addictive habit lol). I bought Miniest an ocarina as part of her birthday present and they had one with a cracked glaze for cheap, so I got it as well. We’ve been attempting to play them and the eldest said it’s like being in a room full of apprentice snake charmers. I can sort of play “The Rose” but it’ll take a fair bit more practise before I can play well. Drew us a D major finger position chart thingy, which really helps.

There’s no such thing as time at the end of daylight savings, it’s all out the window. Go bananas.
Sleep well!

mmmmmmm butter
just_kitten@aussie.zone 1 year ago
Goddamn Minh Phat. so easy to spend so much on delicious condiments and dried and frozen goods and everything. Most of what I’ve bought should last me for half a year at least though. The $30 worth of dried mushrooms in particular. 500g goes a long way and these small mushrooms are great as they rehydrate a lot faster, no need to prep so far in advance.

My breakfast/lunch: Coles roast chook sandwich featuring: Coleslaw, buttered Wonderwhite White bread, hot sauce, cheese, salt and pepper. Holy smokes it was incredible

I just made the new daily thread because I went to bed two hours ago and thought it was 7am 🙃

I once had a nap and tried to go to work at 7pm. Got about half way in before brain clicked over.
