Yes, the upper left half is “done”.
The way my partner eats avocado.

Is your partner a raccoon?
zakobjoa@lemmy.world 14 hours ago
There’s certainly commonalities, yes.
Big_Boss_77@fedinsfw.app 14 hours ago
Ahhh… mine is the same way. I’d never seen bread opened from the side before we got together…

You need to introduce your partner to spoons.

Dude at least they attempted to scoop it out. My better half cuts it in half and SQUEEZES it out because she’s decided it’s better/easier than cutting it out properly. Now I walk into the kitchen and find the mutilated remains of our avocados.
Paddy_NI@lemmy.world 14 hours ago
Your partner is clearly a psychopath!
zakobjoa@lemmy.world 14 hours ago
My lawyers are advising me not to comment.

The ragebait equivalent for someone taking a way uneven slice of pie or cake.
viral.vegabond@piefed.social 14 hours ago
Wtf, that’s so wasteful
zakobjoa@lemmy.world 14 hours ago
No. They have a partner who will eat literal trash to avoid food waste, and they know it.
notabot@piefed.social 14 hours ago
See, they’re just being nice and leaving you a little snack.

Are all the spoons dirty or something?
Also, are they eating avocado with butter?zakobjoa@lemmy.world 14 hours ago
I think scooping it out with a butter knife might be a cultural thing, especially when the avocado is not super ripe.
And the butter was probably for a different sandwich.
chicken@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 hour ago
There’s a better way to use a butter knife, which is to slice a grid into the half avocado, after which you can use a spoon or your fingers to pop the cubes off into a bowl. Then you can put those in a bag in the freezer to have ripe avocado anytime.
Alcoholicorn@mander.xyz 14 hours ago
Microwave it for like 15 seconds before scooping/scraping if its underripe
MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip 14 hours ago
I eat almond puree with butter. It’s tastier and you also eat a sugar topping (jam) with butter.
oce@jlai.lu 12 hours ago
The notable difference with jam would be that avocado is already oily.
NatakuNox@lemmy.world 12 hours ago
Does your partner hate doing dishes? Because I’ve done similar things to avoid using a plate.
apfelwoiSchoppen@lemmy.world 13 hours ago
My partner does this too. As those bits are probably the best part, I grab a spoon and go to town.

I was back home visiting my family last year and I noticed my mom struggling with an avocado. She had the skin about half peeled off and was trying to hold onto the slippery inside while peeling the rest of the skin off in little chunks. I asked her what she was doing and she answered “peeling the avocado” like it was some ridiculous question. About this time my wife noticed what was going on and started cracking up laughing. She finished peeling and awkwardly slicing it while we discussed the fact that we had never seen anyone do it that way and on the next one we showed her the “cut it in half, remove the pit, and scoop it out” method. She was blown away. Apparently she has just always peeled them and never questioned if there was an easier way.
zakobjoa@lemmy.world 14 hours ago
I do peel them when I want to slice them very cleanly, but I quarter them first. If they’re ripe you can peel the skin in one go.
fitjazz@sh.itjust.works 12 hours ago
If I want slices I slice them before scooping and can then scoop out nice clean slices.
TrickDacy@lemmy.world 12 hours ago
The way I peel them is better than both methods and similar to both. I cut it in half, remove the pit, halve the halves, then, especially if the ripeness is good, you can easily peel the skin off the quarters. And it doesn’t waste anything like scooping inevitably does to some degree. If the ripeness isn’t right, the quarters are easier to scoop effectively. So, win-win.
fitjazz@sh.itjust.works 11 hours ago
I have never had a problem with waste from scooping but I have the perfect size and shape spoons and I am also usually making guacamole so anything that might get left behind on the first scoop just gets scraped out anyway.
jaybone@lemmy.zip 10 hours ago
Thank you for saving me all the typing.
And no one taught me this. After just trying to cut one once or twice this is super intuitive as the better way to do it.
Also once sliced try them with some oil and balsamic vinegar drizzled over, and some salt and pepper.
metallic_substance@lemmy.world 11 hours ago
I had a roommate at one point who did this and who was also similarly blown away when I showed him the cut and remove the pit method. Also, he fucking refrigerated them
