You’re welcome, hope you guys have fun! 😁

Yes, if I hadn’t played either and I was going to choose one then I think I might go with Cosmic Invasion. My reasoning is that the developers have had some time to iterate, and the overall experience could potentially be a bit better because of this. As for the pixelation, I really didn’t notice one being substantially better or worse than the other. They both looked great to me. I like Dotemu’s pixel art in general.
Maybe think about what they might be into. In my line of thinking, cosmic invasion will probably have a more general appeal character wise than the turtles. With the turtles you either do like them, or you don’t. If cosmic invasion isn’t quite your thing, at least you have plenty of different characters to choose from and thus more of a chance to find one you like possibly?
A couple of other factors to consider: price = $25(shredder’s revenge) vs $30 (cosmic invasion) review score = Overwhelmingly positive (shredder’s revenge) vs very positive (cosmic invasion)
Yeah, Absolum got great reviews and looks like a great game. I’m not really into roguelikes myself, so I skipped on that one, but it definitely makes me want to consider giving them a second chance though. Lol

I like Shredder’s revenge, and have played it a fair bit. It’s pretty fun, and simple enough to be accessible for any age/skill level.
I’ve only played the demo for Cosmic Invasion. It kind of seemed to be more of the same, but just a different flavor (they have the same developers, of course). It was a lot of fun too.
You could consider the Scott Pilgrim games as well, and there’s also a new one coming out very soon.

I don’t think there’s any assistance for the platforming.
From what I’ve read, the platforming does ramp up in the later game, and can be pretty difficult. Maybe read some of the reviews and watch some gameplay to see what you think? In my opinion, it would still be worth a purchase. 👍

MIO (memories in orbit)
I’m not very far yet, but it’s been an incredible and intriguing game so far. The graphics, music, and story are all beautifully designed and I find myself craving to uncover more details.
I am struggling a bit with the boss encounters, however, due to the limited amount of hits the game gives you. I’m considering turning on one of the assist modes, because I don’t have the time or patience for a perfect run.

Hey, this one looks like it might be up my alley. I typically play more action based games, but I like to try and branch out now and then too. Thanks for the write up!

Nice! MRB is definitely worth a replay! I actually replayed it recently and beat it this time. Younger me was trying to play it on hard mode like a psychopath… Lol

I don’t know of any that came out this year (exception being cosmic invasion, which I’m sure you’re aware of).
The last few that I played were River City Girls, Scott Pilgrim, Streets of rage 4, and mother Russia bleeds

-Escape from Duckov (still)
-Constance has been amazing so far
-Spindle (this one’s a bit more relaxed)

I’ve been playing Windswept, it’s an amazing little platformer in the spirit of Donkey Kong Country but very unique and incredibly well done.
Also, I just started a little 2D adventure game called Spindle. You play as the new incarnation of death tasked with retrieving people’s spirits. It’s a pretty fun zelda-like so far.
Escape from Duckov also still has me hooked. It’s very addictive, especially after loading up a bunch of mods and quality of life improvements.

Good, more developers should take that kind of stance. I might just get this game out of moral obligation.

My apologies then, sorry about the assumption…
Many people, myself included, think that Silksong is not balanced as well as it could be.
Anyway, yes there are quite a few mods that I’ve found so far. Balancing out some of the more egregious design choices, and adding some general quality of life changes and time savers makes this game so much more enjoyable in my opinion. The challenge is still there, the game just feels much less like it’s trying to force you to be a masochist.
Also, there are purely cosmetic mods as well for people who just enjoy a different look.

Yes, there is actually quite a few so far! Check out https://thunderstore.io/c/hollow-knight-silksong/?ordering=top-rated
There is another popular mod hosting website too, which may have more options to choose from, but I hesitate to recommend it due to the general controversy I’ve seen as of late.

Come on now, it’s fine to be opinionated on the matter but inciting an unnecessary argument doesn’t do any good. Mods are a great feature and allow many people to get even more enjoyment out of an incredible game.
