I guess it depends what you mean exactly. Hated by people now? Hated by contemporaries? Hated by specifically American voters vs anyone affected by them? Total number of people who hate? Proportion of population? Intensity of hatred?
There’s also the extent to which media plays a role in this. We’re constantly aware of all the horrible shit Trump is doing, but the average person probably wouldn’t know much about say, The Trail of Tears at the time and it’s hard to say if they’d care given the way natives were portrayed to them. As for how people today look back on these people… maybe it’s just recency bias, but people don’t seem to really emotionally “hate” historical presidents as much as you’d think they should just based off what they’ve done. Slave owners, war mongers, and genocidal maniacs. People mostly know about the big stuff but… they always seem kind of disconnected from the horror of it.
So Idk. Trump is definitely up there, but depending on exactly what we’re talking about, we could probably make a good case for a few other monsters of the past.

All history books will be forced to praise him to say he was / is the best president there ever was and Don Jr is doing a fantastic job as current president. Genocide is generally considered a direct act against a culture, ethnicity, or religion with the intentions to destroy them in one form or another. For example if I dropped a nuke on say Salt Lake City because fuck Mormons that would be genocide, if I cutoff trade to say Twin Falls Idaho due to resource disputes and mass death occurred that would just be a mass casualty event with human rights violations involved.
It’s a definitional thing and frankly cutting USAID doesn’t quite hit the definition at least without proven intent. Who knows maybe it’ll come out that Musk purposefully fucked with it because he is racist and not just because he is a callous dipshit. That would push it into the genocide category.

Some presidents have arguably done worse things than Trump (so far), but I’m not sure if they were more hated at the time. Trump has probably done more damage to the institutions of the US than any other president in history; which will probably result in a new dark era.

Currently? Perhaps, but if you are taking a poll of the general population you need to keep in mind that almost 50% of the population voted for him and would pick someone from the Democratic Party.
Forever? Probably not. I remember when the world thought nobody could ever be a dumber president than Dubya. And frankly, if Trump didn’t have a snivelling need for love and approval, he would probably implement more of the horrible things he talks about. One day the US could elect that very combination of evil and self-confident.

77.3/231= 33.4% or 1/3
To put it in perspective if you walked up to an American adult that could have voted in 2024. You are twice as likely to hear that they didn’t vote for trump or didn’t vote than they voted for trump.

Correct, and even worse for Donald, the only good news he’s gotten in elections has been primaries for the past two years. Candidates he backed have lost nearly every election in 2025 and 2026, and this has occurred in both red and blue states, and mostly in areas he won by double digits in 2024.
Consider that Republicans literally stopped gerrymandering because Donald has pissed off so many voters they can’t accurately predict where they have any electoral strength anymore.
He is indisputably among the most hated presidents of all time.

I don’t live in the US. But, what I have noticed in my country, is that it appears that the majority of people who praised Trump when he was first elected, totally despise him since he was re-elected.

Not the feeling I get in Wisconsin. Sure, the bumper stickers and lawn signs have largely disappeared, (You wouldn’t believe how long the yard signs stayed up) and the homes/properties that displayed giant Trump signs (Some made giant signage, the cult is real) largely still display them outside cities. I don’t notice as many red baseball caps these days–
But I can drive ~15 minutes from home and show you a barn with a 100-foot wide Trump sign bolted to its face, still today. In rural areas it seems some people would support him even if he went crazier and declared his dementia was a gift from God.
There’s a home in my city that made their own “Trump 24 FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT” banner that stood for years, built out of wooden poles a foot wide and 1/2 inch plywood which only recently got defaced enough for them to remove it and replace it with a new (non-trump) far right politician’s campaign sign.
Feel like I live in a sanitarium.

Out here in rural Ohio I’ve noticed a lot of the trump signs slowly fade away. Replaced by either “NO DATA CENTER” signs or signs supporting other republicans or some general idea of America (one house proudly flew a trump flag and fight fight fight bunting up until the Iran war, they took the bunting down and replaced the trump flag with a black flag that just says 1776 on it)
There are still some signs up, still some flags up, and I doubt the people that took theirs down have actually had a change of heart politically and more just don’t want to look foolish as diesel hit $5 and they couldn’t afford to run the machines they needed to plant.
It’s sad really. Americans are getting fucked everyday by the wealthy elites in this nation, trump tells them “hey you are getting fucked and I can make it better” and at no point do they stop and go “hmm, we are getting fucked, but he’s the kind of guy that does the fucking, could he maybe be tricking us?” And instead are so hungry for someone to have their interest at heart they will buy into the cult. He gives them some weird things to be angry about, immigrants, woke people, whatever his boogeyman of the week is, and hurts those people. The cult sees it as finally someone fighting for them because they failed to identify the actual cause of their problems.
I think the “NO DATA CENTER” signs are maybe the most interesting development. If only they could put together that it isnt immigrants or trans athletes building these data centers. It’s wealthy fucks who will never be satisfied, more than willing to spoil your water, jack up your electric bill, and blast your homes with constant humming and buzzing, all ao they can have a little bit more. One would hope they could look around and realize that this ongoing class war that they are badly losing is the cause, but I suspect their hate mongers will find a way to blame minorities and queers again. The data center owner isnt to blame, no it’ll be woke scientist lying to you that data centers are poisoning your drinking water because they are nefarious communists who hate our way of life, just ignore that cancer you keep getting and hate them.

Yep. If you want to count all the people who hate Trump and say he is “the most hated” then you kinda have to count all the people who love Trump and ask whether he is “the most loved” also ?
I don’t know the answer to that question. It certainly seems as though some portion of his supporters are more committed than I’ve seen for any other political leader, but it might just seem that way because of the way things work in 2026.
Regardless, it seems most accurate to say Trump is the most divisive because “most hated” doesn’t really capture it.

The Union had about 22 million people, and the Confederacy was about 5.5 million if you don’t count the slaves or about 9 million if you include them. So it’s not really half in that sense.
If you put all of the Union in the “approve” category and all of the Confederacy in the “disapprove” category (and not leave the slaves out of this) then Lincoln would have about an 80% approval rating, which is far higher than Trump can claim.

Until relatively recently, I would have said it’s a toss up between Regan and Trump (Jackson, Nixon, and both Bush’s have their hats in the ring though). But honestly looking at things now, I think the damage this current administration has done will have really horrific negative effects for the next 2, maybe 3 generations. So yeah, Trump wins the “worst president ever” contest. All he needs is a couple more genocides and maybe a world war under his belt to unseat Hitler/Mussolini for the worst human to ever live contest.
