Right, and I don’t doubt you, empathy is how society grew. But empathy is not why society started.
Keep in mind that you wanted to keep old people in your tribe to look after the children. The men and women were looking for food and firewood and building materials. Losing children means the end of the tribe. Feeding the elderly is still security. It simply makes sense from a survival standpoint.
Obviously they had empathy as well. If you didnt, you wouldn’t bother to bury the dead, let alone give up valuable items as offerings, such as an ax. As far as I’m aware, that practice dates back at least 40k years. So obviously there was empathy there.
However, I would say that that empathy comes from security. “They were one of us”
But a rival tribe member dies? Do you think they would gather for that scenario? That would be empathy. And there’s no proof of that in a prehistorical context.

Sharing food is keeping alliances, is security.

I’m kinda surprised that nobody has harnessed our magnetic field to build a power source. Or at least tried. I have no idea how it could work, and I may be dumb as shit for this. But I feel like it could be possible if we had another 500 years left of society.

Societies weren’t built on empathy, they were built on security. Not just physical security but food as well. No society in history was built on empathy, ever.

I think they meant the wraith guy that posted it, not “god”. But for someone named wraith, to encourage following another person named wraith seems suspicious.

I appreciate that you stated it in a way that the fun fact is there’s a theory, and not that the theory was definitive fact. But it definitely seems plausible.

Unfortunately that’s due to rules and bots. One uses that language to get around bots that seek “violent language” because enough people have had to deal with arguing themselves out of a ban.

We CAN do that. Whether we choose to as a society, is far more up in the air, unfortunately.

- Comment on How do I get my clothes to smell like I just bought them at the store? 4 weeks ago:
Agreed on both points. I buy all my shit at Kohl’s cause I just don’t care. Plain colored shirts, and regular pants. Am I fashionable? Fuck no, but I also don’t get weird looks for dressing bad. Someone buys an $80 shirt and “can’t” wear it after a year or two. I buy a $15 shirt and wear it for close to a decade if it’s still in good shape.
And food? It may just be me getting old but eating is more of something I do just to not die. Sure, I enjoy some foods, but overall it’s just a chore.

I once gave a speech on butterflies while stoned off my ass. Got really, REALLY fucking stoned, with a buddy cause I was pretty sure I didn’t have to go to that class that day. Checked the syllabus and turns out I had to go. We picked the subject of other people’s speech, and gave a 3 minute “speech” on butterflies, which I mostly just modified Mitch hedberg jokes to fit butterflies. Got the class laughing and got an A. 🤷🏼♂️
