I knew a girl a long time ago whose mother had her convinced that she could tell by her urine if she ever had sex.
She was a good mom for the most part, just backwards in a lot of ways (mostly having to do with religion).
When that girl went wild, oh boy she went wild.
When she found out her mom had lied to her, she went to a party and begged people to have sex with her. She was beautiful but it freaked everyone out so the only person interested was a creep.
Fortunately she didn’t get pregnant and end up stuck with him or something.
You can mess kids up doing crap like that.

The best thing you can do is to educate and instill trust. Trust in both ways. Make sure your kid(s) can trust you, and that they know you trust them.
That’s how I didn’t do any stupid shit growing up, I feel. Also had a very solid group of friends. That helps a lot.
TrickDacy@lemmy.world 22 hours ago
The trust issue is so real. I can’t even imagine how different I’d be if I grew up trusting and being trusted. I knew my parents lied to me sometimes and they always accused me of it, despite me constantly getting myself in trouble by volunteering honesty no one asked for. A therapist once told me my role in the family seemed to be “truth teller”. I think she was right about that. Maybe I was overcompensating for my family lying by calling out the truth constantly.
It’s a bizarre thing for your parents to believe strangers (in one case a jerk kid who rode my bus) who make shit up, but not believe you, their child. I guess it’s them accidentally admitting they’d lie if they were in the situation they think you’re in.

My cousin was raised super religious and sent to religious schools that barely taught anything. When she graduated high school and went to a real college she flamed out hard.
She couldn’t keep her grades up because she hadn’t been educated well. Flunked out and moved in with a tattoo artist living in a trailer. Got pregnant a year later and decided to keep it.
Ended up working at a call center to support the baby and her husband who was over 20 years older. He ended up dying in his 50s so she moved back in with the parents.

When it comes to their daughters sexuality, religious people are monsters.

Religion
It is truly poison.

How old was this poor girl? Why would the parents want to do this?

When you put it that way, it sounds more like human trafficking than marriage.
spankmonkey@lemmy.world 1 day ago
Exile from such a group sounds like a win for the girl, but then again I don’t understand religious wackos.

Sounds like a shit community to be in

I don’t mean to sound all condescending or something, but it’s really jarring to me that shit like this and Internet access are overlapping.
OwlPaste@lemmy.world 1 day ago
this is absolutely ridiculous and completely inappropriate! Tbank you for doing your best to not support this

Is that rural India or something?..
Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works 23 hours ago
So it’s a lose-lose scenario for her, since she’s had no choice of the man and he’s the kind who insists on the test.
TriflingToad@sh.itjust.works 22 hours ago
my mom forced my sister to go to the doctor to get a pregnancy test every month for years instead of letting her take a contraceptive pill because it would ‘let her get away with stuff’, which was hilarious because at time time my sister was lesbian* 😂
Yeah once my mom found my (soon to be 🤞) brother in law is trans she freaked out because “now you’re acting on it” and is now essentially cut out of our lives for the time being. I don’t really see her getting any better since she’s now living with her really conservative mom, so probably cut off permanently.
*(my sister now finds bi fits her better, hince the boyfriend part lol)
homura1650@lemm.ee 21 hours ago
So, your mom is OK with gay sex, and recognizes trans people as being their chosen gender? How progressive!
pineapplelover@lemm.ee 21 hours ago
I mean you’d think your mom would be ecstatic. A lesbian wouldn’t get pregnant (I mean like just out of carelessness not saying they can’t physically reproduce)

Those people should not have kids

You think their hymen is intact?

I am not a doctor nor familiar with any related laws so of course I don’t know what I’m talking about. Is there a reason you couldn’t tell the parents “Of course, right away” and then ask them to leave the room? When they leave the room you could ask the daughter what answer she wants you to give the parents, then call them back in and give them that answer.
People who believe in virginity tests aren’t going to stop because you turned them away they will just continue until they get what they want. You might as well do the girl a favor and get those assholes off her back even if it is temporary.

Stories like this are why it’s a really good thing that I don’t have access to the red button. I would hit the reset on our species in a second if I could.
P00ptart@lemmy.world 1 day ago
“if you push this button, someone you… Did you just push the button?” Me: *looking them in the eye while I slowly push it again. “At least let me tell you what it does, if you push the button, someone you don’t know will die…” Me: *pushes button again. “SOMEONE WILL DIE AND YOU GET A MILLION DOLLARS!” “7,999,999,997 more to go, then”
(What’s it up to now 8.2bill or so? I figure me and the people I know, plus about 200 million other people could get along well enough… Fuck, better knock another 180million or so off)

You might as well keep going, because it’ll probably be the 200 million worst and most useless people left. Survival of the cruelest seems to be a rule in this world.

The virginity test involves checking if you post on ml.

Shit’s so bad over here, I just run around making assumptions. My bad.
IndiBrony@lemmy.world 1 day ago
Do these tests take place with people watching? If not, could you not bullshit by saying “Yeah I’ll do it”, then lock the parents out from seeing anything before having a chat with the girl about how bullshit it is, then bullshit even more by simply telling the parents “yep, totally a virgin, absolutely a virgin”?
That said, now I read that out loud I realise that’s probably way too risky and could cost you your license.
bacon_pdp@lemmy.world 1 day ago
Easy make the office procedure private with the child, ask the child what answer that they want told to their parents.
sit@lemmy.dbzer0.com 23 hours ago
Imo it depends how old the girl is. If it’s a suspicion of rape (when she’s mentally too young) it should be mandatory to check. I don’t know if there are other indicators beside the hyphen.
hungryphrog@lemmy.blahaj.zone 23 hours ago
The hymen isn’t an indicator at all in the first place.
sit@lemmy.dbzer0.com 23 hours ago
Yes I didn’t mean that. English second language etc. I mean it should be taken seriously if the girl is too young and be checked for indicators of molestation.
SlippiHUD@lemmy.world 1 day ago
I’m not sure what the harm would be in asking the girl in a private room if she’s a virgin and just repeating her awnser.
Seems just as good or better than the hymen test, which isnt what they asked for.
SassyRamen@lemmy.world 1 day ago
Did you report them for child abuse/neglect? Crazy shit like that is 100% mental abuse. The poor girl.

webghost0101@sopuli.xyz 1 day ago
Just curious but how would these kind of people respond if you just reframed the semantics a little?
“Virginity test? I am not aware we have any of those?”
“Oh that kind of test? Those were found to be unreliable and have since been banned.”
“Even if i did perform it, which would be illegal. you still wouldn’t actually know. At best you have false of security, at worst”…. Oh Idk how to write this part without sounding condescending…. Daughter will need therapy.
4_degrees@lemmy.world 1 day ago
Could you just take their money and lie to them or do they need to watch or something?
