Australian Federal Election Day
Youâre all enjoying the count. The polls havenât even shut here yet
Itâs odd to me that we donât hold all vote counting until the final electorate closure, to avoid influence of early outcomes.
The school down the road did not have a barbecue, or food of any kind. But I had a nice chat with one of the canvassers while in line.
Trying to convince the pâs to âletâ me install a grab rail in their shower.
There is so much stigma to it itâs ridiculous.
Come out of the shower with fake blood running down your face and say you slipped.
Grab rails are also handy when Iâm cleaning the shower and donât want to step in.
Itâs a great place to hang the face flannel.
Actually that might help persuade them.
When my very frail (and very stubborn) MIL stayed with us when recovering from an injury, I had grab rails installed in the shower and next to the loo. She got really angry and refused to use them.
Iâve found them really handy though, both for holding on to and propping things on in the shower and for lifting myself off the loo after too much âleg dayâ exercise.
Maybe try to sell them as chunky towel rails and shampoo holders?
Oh Antony Green. Bless
The âliveâ results on the abc news live coverage have been updated after a couple of hours of just sitting there static - Labour = 81 seats!
86 now
senate đ€
87
85
Damn, it was called early. What happened? I thought it was going to be a close one.
Dutton happened :)
And he loses his seat too, nothing better.
Antony Green said it so itâs true!
Thatâs very purple. Thought it was soap on 1st glance
Blackberry fudge. Tasted it before I bought it
I still think itâs soap.
Noooooooooo
Fear not, I tried it before I bought it. Quite nice blackberry stuff
That looks delicious
Donât forget tonight, itâs between you and me buddy!
I have yet to find my pub for the evening to watch it
Iâve done my duty in the Tropical Soup 𫥠things are far more streamlined here because weâre lucky to have any kind of opposition at all in the first place, and thereâs only one house in the government, and itâs just FPTP without preferential voting⊠Got in and out in about 3.5 minutes and used an inked stamp to press X on one of two boxes.
I wish I could vote in Australia but that likely wonât happen until my mum passes away and I can finally let go of my original citizenship. So for now I will live vicariously through everyone else - and have to tolerate 7 hours of uncertainty on the flight that leaves just as polls close đ
Change of plans. Weather shit, so will quokka another day. Have caught train to Freo
Are you going to check out the the prison?
They may not let me out now Iâm here
I am an an honest to goodness train eeeeeee
I think I have been on a train about five times in my ~10 years in Melbourne
Happy voting day, everyone. Eat your sausage
You know that bit where Mr Burns laughs at the injured Irishman Can someone redo that but with Dutton losing?
My train ride home intersected with a bucks party. Nice boys
Home made kofta kebabs, retro video games, music and cat cuddles.
Heaven.
Iâm already stressing about results. What if I somehow miscalculated and helped allow dipshits in. Too late now.
I wish I could distract myself
Your single vote will not empower dipshits.
Even if it couldâŠvoters are never wrong. Sometimes the choices of voters have unforeseen consequences, but as a voter exercising your rights you cannot make a wrong choice doing it. Whatever you picked is right.
I think that any one voter can still have voted âwrongâ in terms of their own beliefs and desires though?
I just didnât have time to research properly, and wasnât familiar with a couple of independent candidates.
I did a quick google and put them just ahead of Pauline Hanson but am wondering if there were any things I missed. Whether my choices aligned with what I wanted.
voting done, no sossage, safe labor seat, no liberal canvassers
ewaste taken to drop off centre
bunnings run done, got paint for furniture, semi gloss kara sea colour and some new brushes
walk down beach , today there was a bloke in a straw boater hat standing out on the sand flats playing guitar to his dog
a little bit of gardening done
time for coffee and a little lunch
Postal voted ready to be witnessed and mailed right after, and my antibiotic script ready to be fill. Iâm really not feeling tops but need to sort these things out, try and get out of these weeds.
I fumbled an earlier dental appointment and was extremely upset about it but touch wood I can be seen this week.
I am a bit worried about pain management post extraction though. Iâm leaning toward refusing the prescription painkillers though and wondering if I will be able to power through with just Panadol and ibuprofen. For what itâs worth the root canals were surprisingly bearable, couple of Panadol the first few days and fine at least until the infection returned. But this is a second molar extraction while awake and the roots may be a bit oddly shaped. And Iâm fretting a bit about dry socket. I do know not to take ibuprofen too soon after due to the risk of interfering with clotting.
Itâs great to have got the libs out.
But I still feel uneasy. In addition to Cheeto Chaplinâs attacks the UK recently ruled that trans women legally arenât women and are banned from womenâs bathrooms, and in Australia there have been recent protests against trans people and against anti-hate speech laws protecting LGBTIA+.
Regardless of laws Australia picks up culture wars like a sponge.
Go through life trying to be decent to people. Thatâs within your reach, and is an excellent start
Iâm trying. It doesnât seem to do much.
Edit: Thereâs also the additional bonus of it marking you out as an easy target
Has this ever happened before? Has the opposition leader ever lost their seat in an election. It feels huge
Well he wasnât opposition leader, but John Howard as PM in 2007.
I heard that on the radio. The liberals lost anyway but imagine the prime minister losing but the party wins
Nope. They just spoke about it now.
I heard that too. The worst part is they kept him in for so long
omg, those are some huge swings to Lab. I think itâs the trump effect. We donât want cunts like that or cunts who support trump in.
Iâve been worried for months that took many Australianâs where like Trumpâs supporters.
If we hadnât just been shown exactly what that actually means - behold, the United States! - it might be more popular. But we have, and for all that Australians love a good bitch about politiciansâŠwe donât love it enough to burn the place down
I have a bad feeling
I am starting very slowly to hope but too scared to admit it
My first choice of polling booth had no democracy sausages so of course I left to find another with them.
The entrance to this polling booth is quite narrow so I got assaulted with how to vote pamphlets on entry.
Mine had run out of sausages when I got there at 1pm. Undemocratic I reckon.
I was so tired. Slept way past midday.
Plans for operation laundry have been set back :(
Still doing it though not sure itâll be dry by tomorrow.
I wandered in to my poling place wearing a TShirt by a Band that is favoured by the Progressive Political People.
The drone handing out A3-sized Greens How-To-Vote broadsheets offered me one and I said âno thankyouâ. He aggressively replied âTypical!â to his contracted colleagues.
One of them then thrust the so-big-it-was-impossible to read Labor HTV card at me, âwhat about one of these onesâ.
I decided to jump on my anti-HTV soapbox and let them all have it with both barrels, including describing them as a âCorruption of Our democracyâ.
The next 5 voters who queued also declined HTV cards.
When the Environmentalist party is littering the suburbs with non-recyclable single-use plastic corflutes, fastened to signs with single-use plastic cable-ties and then wasting paper like this, you really have to wonder about their commitment to the Environment.
Corflutes and HTVs are used widely by all parties, not just the Greens. But the Greens are the target of your critique because someone allegedly hurt your feelings? (Both materials are 100% recyclable, by the way.)
Iâm more concerned about the dozens of new coal and gas project approvals under Labor. Billions of tonnes of pollution is a bit more impactful that a few thousand printed pamphlets and signs, that everyone else is doing anyway.
Guarantee your outburst was completely pointless and quickly forgotten.
My feelings are not hurt, my tolerance for hypocrisy is what being tested.
Donât get me wrong, the Greens are currently the only way out of the Fossil-Fuel-Funded Two Party system we are currently in, but do they really need to do the exact opposite of what they are campaigning for?
Things that are 100% recyclable are not always (actually hardly ever) recycled at all, let alone to 100%. They should be using biodegradable, renewable materials, or even better, donât publish them in the first place. The absence Greens Junk Mail would be a better message to send their constituents than continuing to status quo.
How impressive of you.
I did the vote compass quiz thing, just to see where I land. Smack bang between Greens and ALP apparently lol.
I saw there is a rep for a Libertarian party in my seat, so I went to their website to check their policies and this gave me a chuckle
Stop treating me like a CHILD! I want to RIDE HORSES and PROSPECT in Victoriaâs National Parks! Iâm an ADULT and I want THE GOLD RUSH AGAIN!
The same person would be complaining of they saw what the masses would do to it, once itâs gone itâs gone.
We have surplus land that doesnât need protection from unrestrained greed.

Sossige, cawfee, passionfruit sponge and some choc chip muffins please. All gluten free. I kid you not, my local booth had a separate BANK of tables marked variously âhalalâ, âgluten freeâ, âdairy freeâ and âveganâ. Well separated from the carnivore heaven on the other side of the playground but downwind, which gave me a chuckle.

I always forget that the seat of Bradfield exists.
The Bradfields are my people. There has been at least one famous one
