My town had a “Video Tonight” and we were allowed one rental per week, leading to the following regular exchange:
“Want to go to Video Tonight?”
“No, I’d rather wait until tomorrow.”
EVERGREEN@lemmy.one 2 days ago
Same boat here small rural town, we had Video Giant.
the_tab_key@lemmy.world 2 days ago
Yep, 19 points here, never stepped foot inside Blockbuster
Sk3rgi0@lemm.ee 2 days ago
I got zero.
Yes I’m old. On the plus side I still have my family commadore 64 from 1982.
shalafi@lemmy.world 2 days ago
So wish I still had my VIC-20 and 64.
Korne127@lemmy.world 2 days ago
- Sent or received a fax
You clearly do not live in Germany
AntiGuide@feddit.org 2 days ago
I will implemented a service that will rely partly on faxing documents into a new web app this year.
RizzoTheSmall@lemm.ee 1 day ago
I got zero points… guess I’m old now?
jojowakaki@lemmy.world 1 day ago
1 point. Never rented a video from Blockbuster. But did rent VHS/CD/DVD movies from local chain.
Qwazpoi@lemmy.world 1 day ago
I think that should count the same
Hikermick@lemmy.world 2 days ago
Zero (born in '66). Can we add some more to the list?
21: had to wait for the television to warm up
Maggoty@lemmy.world 1 day ago
Hand washing clothes with a scrub board.
Hikermick@lemmy.world 1 day ago
Hey looks like i got one point!
nostradamnit@infosec.pub 2 days ago
Same here. Here’s some more… 22: I had a black and white television 23: The television didn’t have a remote control 24: On Sunday, television was closed, no programming other than religious stuff in the morning 25: At some point, often around midnight, the television went off the air 26: Cars didn’t have seat belts
Hikermick@lemmy.world 1 day ago
I lived through all that too except for very early Sunday mornings our local station would show Felix the Cat and Popeye cartoons followed by Davey and Goliath. I think they got away with t because it was before church started and Davey was somewhat religious

FirstUser@lemmy.world 1 day ago
I live in a Western European country. I have listened to music on CD, i used to own Encyclopedias and i own a copy of DOOM on floppy!
RandomVideos@programming.dev 1 day ago
I own a copy of DOOM in a book
RBWells@lemmy.world 1 day ago
- Never owned a whole encyclopedia.
But probably -1 for not only rotary phone but “party line”; sometimes you couldn’t use the phone because someone else, in another house, was using that line.
Obi@sopuli.xyz 1 day ago
Wasn’t that the case for like, all landlines?..
Johanno@feddit.org 1 day ago
8 points
But only because we pay in cash and block buster was never a thing here.
I have touched a type writer but never used it for writing letters or whatever you write with it.
I just sent a fax a few days ago…
I never owned a walkman or discman but my older sister had a discman and I got one of the first mp3 players xD.
Obi@sopuli.xyz 1 day ago
Yeah I score 0 but quite a few of these are more “because there was an old one there and I felt like trying it out” rather than because I needed to use them daily.
MarcomachtKuchen@feddit.org 2 days ago
8 points. I’m born in 1997.
- No floppy disk
- No typewriter
- No Walkman
- No boom box
- No record of radio
- No Blockbuster (I think that store is not present in my country)
- No dial up Internet
- No cheque
Shapillon@lemmy.world 2 days ago
0 points if you count public libraries as “blockbuster adjacent” and I’m only a year older than you.
baduhai@sopuli.xyz 1 day ago
I was born in 98, got 5 points.
- No walkman
- No boombox
- No fax
- No recording radio
- No cheque
I’ve rented video before, so I’m counting blockbuster.
Voyajer@lemmy.world 2 days ago
I’m at 3 points from a similar age. 8, 12, 13.
collapse_already@lemmy.ml 2 days ago
One point. I have never owned an encyclopedia unless Encarta counts. My parents owned one when I was a kid, and I used the library encyclopedia a ton. I’m in my early 50s. I’m surprised the encyclopedia is not the most common point.
shalafi@lemmy.world 2 days ago
I counted my parents owning Encyclopedia Britannica. 54 here.

Come at me grandpas
Enkrod@feddit.org 2 days ago
Also, I own a house, have no college debt and have met Steve Irwin and talked to Alec Guiness and Terry Pratchett in person.
Your move young whippersnapper.
Cano@lemm.ee 2 days ago
I do agree a lot of zoomers just suck with computers. I am not one of them unfortunately, I am confident in my ability to use a computer which kinda backfired cause now I have my boomer relatives AND my zoomer friends asking for tech support.
I technically own a house (long story short, it was to pay less taxes)
I paid only ~2000€ in university taxes this year. I’d argue this problem is mostly with being an American (which I am not) rather than being a zoomer.
Steve Irwin is the only thing you have over me, and I don’t know who the others are.
luckystarr@feddit.org 2 days ago
All of them.
Ziglin@lemmy.world 2 days ago
I thought I would be at the low end at 12…
Maybe the younger people didn’t have the patience to read all 20 bullet points and comment as well?
grimoire@lemmy.zip 1 day ago
14 points 😬
some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 1 day ago
Two points. Wtf would I send a postcard? I also don’t believe I’ve ever sent a fax, though I may have gone to an office supply store to have that done to a business and don’t recall.
Geldaran@lemmy.world 1 day ago
- ::shakes fist:: Get off my lawn!

We’re old.
macmarkus@lemm.ee 1 day ago
Haha I had the same thought initially. Then I thought it was really neat how far we have come from those days… It’s kind of crazy, I can’t wait to see what comes next in terms of advancements in technology and science working in harmony with nature.
Olhonestjim@lemmy.world 1 day ago
I actually plan to buy the latest print encyclopedia I can find. Just in case. Fuck them trying to kill everything good on the internet.

selkiesidhe@lemm.ee 1 day ago
Ha!! One point! In yo face!!!
Sorry got too excited there for a second. I have never sent a postcard. Bought em though and rcvd them but never sent.
Obi@sopuli.xyz 1 day ago
I can technically count myself one point, but that’s only because we didn’t have blockbusters in France (but I did rent VHS from other places)…
vga@sopuli.xyz 1 day ago
- Paper cheques was a close one, but I actually paid a house once with a cheque.
Demonmariner@lemmy.world 1 day ago
I got one point for the Walkman thing, but maybe I just forgot.
deedan06_@lemmy.dbzer0.com 21 hours ago
- But some are only like once in my parents basenent for fun. Technically 8. I technically sent fax to doctors for work. As in, i physically deliver it to them as austria banned doctors from using fax, and clearly, the only solution is to walk there in this day and age.
mechoman444@lemmy.world 2 days ago
