After about two months of holding out for op-shops to have a muffin tray, bowls and large jars at a reasonable price, Iâve bought them all at bigW for about half of what the salvos were asking. One place wanted $10 ea for large used Moccona jars, ffs.

Op Shops seem to have stupid pricing these days. They have so much stuff being donated that they dont always even accept donations, and then instead of putting reasonable prices on things to sell quickly they mark it up so much itâs often not worth buying.
dumblederp@aussie.zone âš3â© âšmonthsâ© ago
Iâve been going to op shops all my life and I think theyâve finally lost my business. The clothes and kitchen ware cost more than new. Interesting items seem to be marked at their maximum ebay value, eg, the donkey kong hand held for $250!
Baku@aussie.zone âš3â© âšmonthsâ© ago
I feel like theyâre pretty much just cash converters except they donât pay anything for the stuff they sell
TinyBreak@aussie.zone âš3â© âšmonthsâ© ago
it got popular, cant blame 'em for trying to make a buck. Can blame 'em for trying to make a buck on Kmart donations though. The anko shit was rough when it was brand new, certainly no better now.
Seagoon_@aussie.zone âš3â© âšmonthsâ© ago
the brotherhood have lost it, they are charging $30 for old jumpers with any label except kmart
and they have some weird idea that old means vintage and collectable ( it doesnât )
savers might not be a huge charity but at least they are reasonable
Aradina@lemmy.ml âš3â© âšmonthsâ© ago
Burwood East RSPCA Op Shop is still priced like most places used to be! Got my trench coat for $7. Basically everything ends up on the clearance rack eventually too.
TinyBreak@aussie.zone âš3â© âšmonthsâ© ago
got a win outta salvos the other weekend, glass keepcup for 2 bucks.

Gratitude time :)
Iâm grateful for the meal prep I did yesterday, and also a sleep in.

I am grateful for fast home delivery of groceries, saves my back from carrying and I donât need a car.

Grateful for a roof over my and my familyâs heads. If you ask this question every day, I will give this answer every day, because I was homeless for a time as a teenager and have never forgotten.

Grateful Mickey is better.
Grateful that I did mine and partners washing yesterday, so I donât feel guilty about not doing any today haha
Grateful to witness the fog this morning. I could see the city from Brunswick at 8.20am, and when I got back at 9am-ish I couldnât even see the street lol

After the admin were arseholes again, Iâm grateful that I have a guaranteed position if I decide to walk.
After having stayed in shit jobs more than once because there wasnât anything out there, itâs such a relief that I do have the option of saying 'âfuck this shit, Iâm outâ if need be.
Iâm also grateful that I only have to interact with the office maybe 10% of the time and the rest is with clients.SituationCake@aussie.zone âš3â© âšmonthsâ© ago
Grateful for being able to keep warm in this cold weather. I know itâs tough for many people with cost of living, and rentals built like tents where there is no option to improve the place.

Booked a short holiday and cruise for next month. My brain: âmaybe I should work on my health and fitness leading up to that!â Also my brain: âeat fried potato. Now.â
⊠it was delicious.
Nath@aussie.zone âš3â© âšmonthsâ© ago
A fried potato isnât that bad. Itâs got a lot of kilojoules if youâre counting, but it is also fairly unprocessed. Lots of supposedly diet snacks are actually worse for you than a fried potato.
Processed food is the devil. And itâs everywhere in our diet. If the ingredients list on a snack is more than two lines long and has a bunch of numbers, it is worse for you than a fried potato.
Baku@aussie.zone âš3â© âšmonthsâ© ago
Iâve often wondered how much different diets and snack food would look if instead of the fat free craze, there was a sugar free craze. Obviously not everything can (or should) be sugar free, but if there was much more emphasis put on low/no sugar foods, people would be healthier overall now. Same story with plastics

Someone required a bath today due to a pootastrophe. Heâs still little under all that floof. Wasnât a fan of the hair-dryer but happy to have a sit in front of the fire. Thankful he is so placid, he didnât enjoy the process but it was just some grumbles.

Morning all! Just woke up from a crazy dream where myself and four other unknown (to me) people were on the run in the States, which at one point involved stealing a heavily modded Chevy Wrangler from Donald Trump (he cried. He loved that car. Lots of people, the best people, said it was a great car). It was a comedy/drama kind of dream, very entertaining, and I did not want to wake up. Stupid bladder! In the dream we made a toilet pitstop and while I went I suddenly thought, "HEY, YOUâRE NOT DOING THAT IN REAL LIFE ARE YOUâœâ and I suddenly awoke and I was! I havenât wet the bed in 40 years! I didnât wet the bed much, luckily, just my multilayered night attire. Very weird experience and a helluva way to end the dream I was enjoying.
Seagoon_@aussie.zone âš3â© âšmonthsâ© ago
Hugs. Trump has that effect on people.

I spent an hour after work last night completing (my least preferred) job applications third party test. Apparently I rank significantly higher than others of a relevant testing pool. Lovely. Next they want me to give them a four minute video response to some questionsâŠ
Meanwhile. My preferred job is cold-shouldering me after telling me Iâd probably heard yesterday if I made it to the in-person interview. They are playing hard to get. Iâm their best applicant I bet. But Iâm still sad I havenât heard yet.
Nath@aussie.zone âš3â© âšmonthsâ© ago
In a past role when I was short staffed and hiring people, I was often lumped with interviewing people on top of my regular duties. It is a lot of extra work. It also took longer than I expected. I was often a bit late getting back to people for all sorts of reasons. Sometimes, candidates had to reschedule. Sometimes, more urgent work came up and I had to do things other than processing the applications. Suddenly, your last interview isnât Tuesday, but Friday instead.
I was never more than a few days late - the best candidates usually had more than one offer to consider and Iâd lose them if I didnât get back to them. If they told you Wednesday, Iâd give them until Monday before giving up.
Force_majeure123@aussie.zone âš3â© âšmonthsâ© ago
Thank you Nath đ
StudChud@aussie.zone âš3â© âšmonthsâ© ago

Getting the cat into the carrier was a task. Helped when I threw a towel on him and bundled him into it.
But the yowling on the tram had me cackling; had to get right up close and go âpss itâs me Iâm hereâ for him to stop. I think he was upset because my partner was holding him, and then left to the train when I got on the tram.
Now weâre chilling in the waiting room. I expect Mickey will be at me up somewhat when we get home lol
Eagle@aussie.zone âš3â© âšmonthsâ© ago
Getting them into the carrier is the most stressful part of a vet trip. That and the bill.
StudChud@aussie.zone âš3â© âšmonthsâ© ago
All done and home now, heâs fine. Bit my leg, par for the course.
Bill wasnât bad, $90 for his vax and another set in a month, as I realised I never got him vaxxed last year đ
In my defense, heâs indoors only, and has only been unwell once when he was a kitten lol
PeelerSheila@aussie.zone âš3â© âšmonthsâ© ago
Lol, wouldnât be the first time I heard yowling on the tram
StudChud@aussie.zone âš3â© âšmonthsâ© ago
I actually thought there was a child behind me, until I realised it was Mickey đđ I couldnât stop giggling. He sounded like a whingey baby hahahahaha
Gibsonisafluffybutt@aussie.zone âš3â© âšmonthsâ© ago
The vet requires me to drug my cat the night before I bring her in.
Sheâs so funny when sheâs a little doped out lol

The knockoff oodie has arrived, and even the S-M is huge on me. Iâm skulking around the house like a malcontent wizard.
(Before the oodie was a thing I had been thinking about sewing a monk style house robe out of blanket fabric. I should have done it and run for the patent office, become rich!)

Bottom_racer@aussie.zone âš3â© âšmonthsâ© ago
There is a ghost on my stovetop.
Some oven dude came out to fix a burner a few days ago. He fixed the burner, but fucked another burner and igniter (sparky things).
On two of the burners, when you turn it down, then back up, all the igniters start sparking and doesnât stop. Very odd. turns out if one igniter isnât sparking, they all spark as a safety thing so thereâs no explosion.
Took some methylated spirits to the sparky things which helped but the big trick was re-sparking, so when they all start going off, just push one of the burnersâ dial and it stops. Never seen that before.
Oven dude was gonna hit me for a few hundred just to have another look even though he didnât do it right.
So, happy to get it going again without any more hassle.
Fuck that oven guy though.
Baku@aussie.zone âš3â© âšmonthsâ© ago
Iâve been using induction or those old school ones with the circular metal plates that heat up for so long. The Airbnb had gas and dear god I do not miss gas stoves.
I probably wouldnât have paid the oven dude tbh. Iâm assuming you didnât realise it was broken until after heâd already left, but I wouldâve called him back, told him it was broken, and then just not paid him afterwards. Heâs the one that broke it đ€·ââïž

What have the Romans ever done for us?
They have provided the lazy inspiration for countless hours of low effort BBC documentaries.
Walking Roman Roads with Dan Jones. About Roman roads in the England. I thought it might be a little interesting. First he didnât walk it , he drove in a Range Rover, he said on account of the weather. He could have used a cart instead. đ Then he visited every tiny museum along the way and looked at the easy stuff like swords.
Imagine how different it could have been. Dan could have suited up like a centurion with a 30 kg back pack and walked it like a Roman. Could have eaten Roman food. Talked about all the people of Roman times who used the roads, could have even âmetâ some re-enactors on the way to St Ives.
0.5 hobbits , he didnât even meet up with a Druid wizard on the way to Wales, which he could have. ( caveat, I fell asleep for two episodes )
Seagoon_@aussie.zone âš3â© âšmonthsâ© ago
Special credit for the Lego model of a Roman Inn at one of the museums.
tombruzzo@aussie.zone âš3â© âšmonthsâ© ago
Youâll have to read Mary Beardâs books on ancient Rome for some well researched and written history
Seagoon_@aussie.zone âš3â© âšmonthsâ© ago
Iâm old, Iâve read all the stuff, I even went to Rome with an atique atlas and saw the places
travellers tip, antique atlases are not good guides to modern cities
StudChud@aussie.zone âš3â© âšmonthsâ© ago
Cat is fine, heâs eaten, bit me, ran around, went to the loo, and is now yowling in the hallway because I closed the bedroom door to keep the heat in the living room.
I predict he will now run around a bit, eat some dry food, and have a snooze in the blanket nest I made for him on the couch.
Also, donât buy Friskies dry food. Twas what was causing Mickey to spew bile. He hasnât spewed or hucked once since I switched back to Fussy Cat Grain Free dry food. So, there you go lol. Told the vet that too, he said heâll note it for the future. :D

Fog or low cloud has rolled in over Richmond. Outside air temp has gone from f**king cold to biting cold. Hands are burning after going out to buy a coffee. Wasnât like that when I got to work this morning at 9 am.

Seven days until pay day, when i will probably be able to afford a new heater that can actually heat! The old 4 fin radiator struggles.

Ducked out today after I had lunch, sausage and bread with tomato sauce is so underrated.
Got a free drink from maccas then went to the supermarket to exchange a sauce I accidentally picked up and swapped it for the one I wanted for cooking later in the week.
It was cold and felt a little hazy out. Surprisingly there was so much traffic out there, almost like peak hour.
Back inside now all warm and almost time for a coffee.

Cold enough that even my colleagues were wearing a puffer jacket indoors. I chickened out and drove in rather than walking because my fingers damn near fell off just in the few minutes between car and office. But my body is definitely feeling the effects of being sedentary :/ Iâm going to try and walk in tomorrow for sure.
Thereâs still a deluge of work coming through, but at least Iâm not handling it solo - I canât wait for my other colleague to be back after the school hols so I can palm off some other stuff, sit down and improve some of these processes before the can gets kicked even further down the road into the next universe.
Thinking of making some pulled pork-style jackfruit now, for lunch tomorrow. Off I go into a rabbit hole of recipes.
StudChud@aussie.zone âš3â© âšmonthsâ© ago
Back into making a Surviving Mars colony. Saw on Reddit that someone found coordinates for an absolutely massive crater map, so Iâm building my colony in there. No colonists yet, just my drones setting everything up first, but damn have I found a great place to build a habitation dome; right next to rare metals, a vista, and two water deposits. Got some sick breakthough tech as well.
Aradina@lemmy.ml âš3â© âšmonthsâ© ago
Today is a write off I think. All Iâve achieved so far is eating three times for two meals and going back to bed at noon. Phone isnât usually allowed in bed, but Iâm making an exception.
Canât even fall asleep, but it is warmer and more comfy

100% humidity outside - that explains why EVERYTHING is currently very wet. And foggy. Might be the same tomorrow, weekendâs looking promising for some sun though. My split system was being weird, blowing hot and cold, but the internal unit air filters were quite clean. Gave them a wash anyway. Maybe I need to create more space in front of the external unit and give it a bit of a vacuum or something
