This is the correct answer. Those companies that don’t fix their shit will perish.

Stop using them.

After they empty your pockets. All part of the grift.
Rooster326@programming.dev 1 month ago
After they empty whose pockets?
Uber Eats is a shit service, all it takes is one person to put them on blast with the truth.
vithigar@lemmy.ca 1 month ago
If that were true they would’ve shut down long ago. Do you really think no one has tried to “put them on blast”?
thermal_shock@lemmy.world 1 month ago
Doordash. Ive never used it and will never, but I’ve seen the bills. It’s crazy expensive, don’t need to be a mathematician to see that nonsense.
john117@piefed.jmsquared.net 1 month ago
for real! don’t like something, don’t use it.
isn’t that the main reason we are all here talking on the fediverse, anyway?
Dnb@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 month ago
I never understood how they are so popular. You are paying double the amount and it’s poor service and food tastes worse
I_Has_A_Hat@lemmy.world 1 month ago
Because if your car has broken down, or you’re exhausted from a long day of work and your family is hungry, or you’re too drunk to safely drive but still want food, or if you straight up don’t have a car and don’t want to cook that night, or you are on vacation at a hotel or airbnb and don’t have other access to food, or you have a baby that you can’t just leave alone for a few minutes to go pick the food up, or you are in the middle of a study session and it would be more convenient to have the food come to you rather than going to get it.
Looks like there’s lots of reasons people might take advantage of the service that can deliver food to them, and it’s not unreasonable for them to expect that service to not completely fuck it up.
AdolfSchmitler@lemmy.world 1 month ago
Those are all valid individual reasons to get food delivered to you. That’s not what makes DoorDash “popular” tho.
binarytobis@lemmy.world 1 month ago
Yeah, tbh I’ve only seen “I don’t feel like driving, let’s DoorDash” in personal experience.
ohulancutash@feddit.uk 1 month ago
So basically laziness.
I_Has_A_Hat@lemmy.world 1 month ago
Yea dude. Not wanting to drive after drinking is just laziness.
sel@piefed.social 1 month ago
I mean literally. We all had to get food before these apps came in. I don’t understand the why we can’t now besides being pure fucking lazy and not willing to do anything to change the status quo instead just bitching about it online acting like there is nothing left to do. It’s so fucking maddening.
lyrial@anarchist.nexus 1 month ago
My main income has been from driving for grubhub for a couple of years now thanks to some physical issues. Anyway, most of the people I deliver to are disabled, elderly, or both. I would feel like shit if I pulled the fuckery presented in the OP.
EonNShadow@pawb.social 1 month ago
Yeah seriously
I started doing Doordash recently to try and get on top of my finances and I’d feel awful about the stuff here
And to be honest
They’re fucking everyone over, the Dashers make basically minimum wage if that, Doordash marks up all the items on the menus, and adds a bunch of bullshit fees.
The only money reliably making it from the customers to the dashers are the tips, and only because they’re required to by law.
Sprocketfree@sh.itjust.works 1 month ago
This is why living in a city is awesome. Just walk 6 blocks and get a bite to eat.
PhoenixDog@lemmy.world 1 month ago
Did you read a fucking word they said? About being exhausted, or having to look after kids, or having housework to do… You’re still gonna find time for 45+ minutes to walk 6 blocks, wait in line, pay, and walk back and still have all the shit you need to do and still eat before it gets cold?
Christ sake… “Just walk 6 blocks”. Tell a single mom that.
thermal_shock@lemmy.world 1 month ago
Enshittification.
shweddy@lemmy.world 1 month ago
Inconvenience of getting your own food is less than over paying for shit service. And you deserve it if you dont realize they dont give a fuck about you.
i_stole_ur_taco@lemmy.ca 1 month ago
Because I’m already high and forgot I don’t have any food in the house.
Rooster326@programming.dev 1 month ago
Go hungry? Phone a friend? Ask the neighbor?
Not give a tech bro $50 to deliver a depression by exploiting your community.
What the fuck do you think we’ve done for checks notes the last 100,000 years.
feannag@sh.itjust.works 1 month ago
Well for most of that history people lived in walkable settlements and cities. Pompeii had fast food stalls. And more recently (relatively) food ordering direct through a restaurant was the norm. Pizza delivery dates back to the 19th century, which is checks notes more than 100 years ago. So yeah, access to food has changed a lot and it is nor unreasonable to expect your delivery driver not to toss your food into the street.
danekrae@lemmy.world 1 month ago
“No! I want to complain AND be lazy!”
DanceMomsSavedMe@lemmy.zip 1 month ago
The faxtthat you have a stranger go and pick up your food is what makes it unthinkable to me. (Although if disabled or injured then I understand)

Decoy321@lemmy.world 1 month ago
I’m not one to defend DD here, I stopped using them years ago. But strangers are preparing your food too. The driver is just one additional set of hands in the supply chain that brought food to your home.
DD still sucks, for the record.
DanceMomsSavedMe@lemmy.zip 1 month ago
This is true but those people are at least on camera and surrounded by other people holding them accountable.
Don’t get me wrong I’ve seen some wild wild shit before at restaurants so of course they can still do messed up stuff to the food but having some guy pick it up and ride off with no accountability is super sketchy to me
Raiderkev@lemmy.world 1 month ago
HARRY!
anon_8675309@lemmy.world 1 month ago
I was getting g a burger the other day (something I’m loathe to do but it was circumstances…) and as I’m waiting several dasher came in and grabbed orders waiting. I’m a people watcher so I sit where I can watch people come and go while I wait for my order and can still hear my name. Now, it was storming outside, I mean it was nuts. One of those dashers came in grabbed the bag of food and used it as a rain block to get back to their car. Just held it over their head like it was making any difference at all. Whoever got those soggy fries I hope they don’t go through the hassle again.

You answered your own question
Honytawk@discuss.tchncs.de 1 month ago
How would paying more cause it to be popular?
I can get you Lemmy+ if you want! It has the exact same experience, but you get to pay me 10€ a month for the privilege.
atomicorange@lemmy.world 1 month ago
Tell me more about Lemmy+. Do I get some sort of visual indicator so other people can tell I’m paying you 10€ per month?
Zoomboingding@lemmy.world 1 month ago
Except it’s not Lemmy+. It’s just what the standard experience is, and most people seem to tolerate it.
Dnb@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 month ago
How does paying double make it popular
Zoomboingding@lemmy.world 1 month ago
The answer is that it’s not popular but it’s not enough for people to stop using the service.
Grandwolf319@sh.itjust.works 1 month ago
I share your perspective and reading these comments made me realize we have different paths of lease resistance.
For some who have gotten used to them, it’s easier to put up with the enshitification than not using them, for others, the path of least resistance is to not use them in the first place.
Raiderkev@lemmy.world 1 month ago
If you’re having a house party and everyone is drinking and you don’t want to cook, it’s handy, but 90% of the time, the premium is not worth it.
Buddahriffic@lemmy.world 1 month ago
Pizza delivery is generally cheaper and more reliable, assuming the pizza place has its own drivers. Cheaper because the delivery service is intended to extend the restaurant’s sales, rather than needing to extract enough value to pay both a driver and the middleman app. More reliable because the driver isn’t just some anonymous person that decided to download an app but a driver that has an ongoing relationship with the pizza place.
Raiderkev@lemmy.world 1 month ago
Sure. Good luck finding anywhere that still does that though.
