Very cute - I was expecting yellow, but they got the fancy black model!

So far everyone who has seen him has said that, including me

I’m excited to announce that my wife’s cat and I have reached a tentative mateship after 4 years. She’s never “hated” me, but she’s always made it pretty clear where I stand with her and that Mrs B is her preferred human. But somethings started to soften, she likes my kid so I think she’s decided I’m alright based on that. She’s even started coming to find me for pats.
The bitch of it all? She’s not even my wife’s cat! I’m the one who said “we can’t leave her here! No ones even looking at her! We have to bring her home.” But nope, Mrs b got all the credit and love.Cats: man’s okayest friend.
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 11 months ago
aw, hugs
( also, be sneaky and get some of the paste cat treats, prawns are a good one, then you*ll be the preferred one forever 😺 )
TinyBreak@aussie.zone 11 months ago
Oh she comes if you call her name and say treats, But you get no points for giving her treats because she just thinks she’s entitled to them.
Eagle@aussie.zone 11 months ago
You’re the spare human!
TinyBreak@aussie.zone 11 months ago
That would 100% be the designation she would give me, yes.
oztrin@aussie.zone 11 months ago
Cops finally got in touch - investigating officer was unaware of the earlier break-ins and you could practically hear her jaw dropping over the phone.
Trainned it down and went to a couple of other OFIs on the same street as well as touching base with the agents who were holding another - places were nice enough but smaller.
Other party put in another bid at the top of the asking range while I was waiting. Agent advised me to wait over the weekend before I make any decisions about another bid. Will sleep on it before I decide whether to make one final bid or drop out of the bidding - even the estate agent who initially said “it’d be a shame to lose the property over $30k” said “it’s getting a bit steep.”.bananafungus@aussie.zone 11 months ago
No idea why I thought it’d be different, but I did my 7 day covid retest and it was instantly positive, like the minute the liquid hit the little thingy.
Really just want the contagious window to end so I can start taking care of myself and leave my bedroom, seven days is a long time to be stuck in a shoebox of a bedroom, even if I can’t do much with myself.
CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 11 months ago
I think I’ve asked this before but anyway I know you like period dramas. Have you watched The Village? It’s a true story set in ww1. It’s on SBS on demand and it’s very good.
Get well soon banana.
bananafungus@aussie.zone 11 months ago
Yes! I originally tuned in for Maxine Peake but soon found myself really sucked into it. Sort of reminded me of Home Fires which was brilliant (still mad they cancelled it)!
melbaboutown@aussie.zone 11 months ago
I feel you. I’m having cabin fever for different reasons and am ready to start plucking my hair out
bananafungus@aussie.zone 11 months ago
Kinda wanky but I’ve been watching lots of POV hiking vids which has semi helped.
Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 11 months ago
That’s rough. I hope you’re at least feeling a bit better.
I’d say if you’re not displaying symptoms but the rats are still + it’s probably okay to go for walks in the open air.
Interestingly open air treatment has been around for some time:
bananafungus@aussie.zone 11 months ago
Oh, I am still very much visibly and physically sick, and would not have a good time if I left my bed. But just having the option to make my own food and leave my bedroom if I wanted to would be nice.
wscholermann@aussie.zone 11 months ago
You can go outside for a walk surely (weather permitting).

This humidity is revolting. I just want to feel clean and not sticky.
wscholermann@aussie.zone 11 months ago
I read somewhere the humidity is going to hang around until the middle of next week.
Thornburywitch@aussie.zone 11 months ago
Yep. More tropical moisture being sucked down south.

Is it bourbon, is it whiskey,
Is it rum, hold the cola?
Orange juice with vodka,
(I think it’s called “mimosa.”)
Sniff and sip an Irish islay,
Hold the ice, I like it straight.
Taste the pest and feel the burn,
Only for whiskey do I yearn.Seagoon_@aussie.zone 11 months ago

Lemmy is trying to help stop me procrastinating and refusing to let me log in to my Aussie.zone account on the computer. I’m going to show it that my procrastination cannot be stopped so easily and clean out the cat litter tray. The things we do when we should be studying. 🤣
RustyRaven@aussie.zone 11 months ago
Procrastination achieved, so I’m taking a break from all that tiring procrastination. Cat’s litter box has been cleaned out, I did a bit more zucchini wrangling and the cucumber has been introduced to its new climbing frame (a clothes airer I picked up from hard rubbish this morning). My brain really really does not want to focus on this assignment. I was hoping to have a rough draft done by now, but I’ve barely touched it.
calhoon2005@aussie.zone 11 months ago
That happened to me yesterday. Clearing the cookies fixed it for me.
RustyRaven@aussie.zone 11 months ago
I expected it to, but it didn’t for some reason. I probably need to do a full clear of everything, but it was not a convenient time so I just left it. ☹️
melbaboutown@aussie.zone 11 months ago
Ugh… Humidity of 71% makes 21 degrees feel a fair bit hotter. BOM reckons Monday will be a max of 29 and Tuesday will be a max of 30.
I’m so happy that heaps of money was pocketed from building Australian houses so cheaply so that we may in turn be gouged for overpriced utilities. They really get you coming and going.
RustyRaven@aussie.zone 11 months ago
Does anyone know of an accurate way to measure actual data usage? The amount Telstra is telling me I’m using is way higher than I think it should be, and is much higher than the total amount my devices are measuring.
At the moment I’ve disconnected everything from the Telstra modem and am going through the phone as a mobile hotspot. I’ve recorded the data totals both services are showing me so I can compare the amounts over a few days, then will swap back and do the same. If anyone has a better approach please let me know.
dumblederp@aussie.zone 11 months ago
Can you log into the router or modem and see if they’ve got inbuilt data tracking? Often: 192.168.0.1 click in a web browser on your home network. Also look on the stickers on the hardware to see if there’s a different address. it might also look like 10.0.0.1. It’d be worth checking if there’s a network device table in there to make sure you know what each device is.
RustyRaven@aussie.zone 11 months ago
The modem shows the same data as Telstra - and it also shows how much I have left on my data plan, so either it is sourcing it’s data from Telstra or vice versa. It is a 5g modem and has connection info directly on the modem, which includes what devices are logged in. I did find my old iPad was still plugged in and connected, but I turned that off a few days ago with no change, and there are no other unexplained devices.
I initially assumed I had an app or something chewing through extra data (like that time I installed the official Reddit app) but there are no apps showing as using much data and after going through any settings I can find to limit things like auto-play video, changing browsers to Firefox to block adds and trying to minimise time spent in pointless scrolling the data use has gone up not down. My tablet is calculating my usage as generally around 40-60gb a month, and probably close to half of that would be on the work wi-fi. But telstra has me at about 70gb and I can’t figure out why.
Obviously it is a low data amount anyway so it’s not really a major financial issue, but it is bugging me that it does not match up.

Why is the old kitten fussy?
She didn’t seem to like the flavour of cat food I opened and despite adding yummy toppings doesn’t want to eat it (so is skimping on taking her medicine). I syringed the pain meds into her mouth last night but gave her anti nausea meds today and keep trying to get her to eat the breakfast.
She keeps jumping up on the door to demand attention but not leading me to anything to show what’s wrong. She’s already done a poo which got scooped away fast, has clean litterboxes, fresh water, the biscuits got shaken to fix the bowl hole, wet food right there…
Maybe she just is bored of the food and feels bad after not having her meds.
She has now patted at me until I let her lie on me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

melbaboutown@aussie.zone 11 months ago

Seagoon_@aussie.zone 11 months ago
Does she like watching cat videos?
melbaboutown@aussie.zone 11 months ago
I have tried showing her bird videos but she doesn’t seem to take notice.
oztrin@aussie.zone 11 months ago
Ooops. Put my head down ‘just for a moment’ last night and woke up fourish with the lights still on, the front door and various windows open and the tv on.
imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone 11 months ago
I’ve been listening to the ‘just ace’ podcast. It’s a look back at 90s Aus alternative music scene. It’s really good - lots of nostalgia but also interesting stuff.
TinyBreak@aussie.zone 11 months ago
Adding this to the list, cheers! I loved the big day out podcast.

Really was not expecting precipitation today, glad that I left my clothes out overnight and remembered to take them in this morning. Rental inspection just finished, quick and easy, thank goodness, and no questions about the additional blind I installed in the bedroom (which is totally legal).
I did not unfortunately work up the courage to raise the question of how much they’re raising the rent by next month, because the whole thought of it was just a bit too much. I did flag that I might be looking to move at the end of the year though, which might not have been smart… anyway… it’s over, back to chillaxing.
RustyRaven@aussie.zone 11 months ago
I have the day off and I’m supposed to be writing my assignment. Instead, I’ve been wasting my time on Facebook getting involved in discussions that involve me rewriting everything about 14 times in an attempt to avoid them tipping over into arguments. I have also hopefully helped bring some people new perspectives and options on FOGO bins, such is the exciting life I lead 🤣

Rain starting in 7 minutes.
These new forecasts are like something out of Back to the Future.
Forecasts used to be for 3 days and were very general.
And yet we survived, we just let weather happen.

I’ve started watching Pachinko and I have never craved a bowl of pure white rice more. Some of the show might be corny and Jimmi Simpson and his butchering of the Japanese language is totally unnecessary, but it’s so beautifully shot and such a compelling story of migration and colonisation. I never thought I’d see such mainstream depiction of Zainichi Koreans marketed to the West.

Oh my God, the fucking car’s been fucking stolen.
TinyBreak@aussie.zone 11 months ago
Oh no! Hope you had insurance! Time to look at some security systems or something, clearly some bad stuff going on in your neighbourhood.
oztrin@aussie.zone 11 months ago
Yes, thankfully. And since I’m moving in a few months, not worth the security unfortunately.
wscholermann@aussie.zone 11 months ago
How did it get stolen? Did they smash a window or was it towed? (Yup I’ve heard of this happening).
oztrin@aussie.zone 11 months ago
No sign of glass or anything, so buggered if I know.

Llabyrinthine@aussie.zone 11 months ago
Oh no! That is awful!
Was there anything important in it? What sort of car was it?
oztrin@aussie.zone 11 months ago
No, and an old Volvo 7. But since this is the third time the place has been hit in a fortnight I’m wishing it was May.
just_kitten@aussie.zone 11 months ago
Fucking hell, you need to win lotto one of these days to balance out your bad run. I really hope that other bidder backs off and the house comes through for you… Will you have another car available soon?
oztrin@aussie.zone 11 months ago
Other bidder is being aggressive so I’m sitting on things for the rest of the weekend.
My insurance includes a hire car and I’ll see if my mechanic has a loaner or something for sale.
anotherspringchicken@aussie.zone 11 months ago
Oh that sucks! I hope you’re doing ok
