Yup, bashing on arbitrary “generations” is stupid. The whole “okay, boomer” meme manifested after thousands of ridiculous articles about blaming the youth for buying less diamond rings or whatever. It just turned around the absurdity. That was the funny part. Just seriously blaming our elderly is stupid the same way.

Every generation has had people who believe in and work toward all sorts of things. Hippies who thought they could levitate the Pentagon were the same age (actually, that’s an oversimplification because, surprise, social movements have always been more age-diverse than they are presented in our media and histories) and existed in the same context as Henry Kissinger who was picking out carpet bombing sites in Southeast Asia as if he were picking what to have for lunch.
For as long as there’s been people, we’ve disagreed with one another and worked toward disparate goals. Find people working on things you care about and work with them. Anything else is a waste of your extremely limited time in this life. Allowing endemic power structures to refocus your anger toward broad groups of “others” and then further propagating that misplaced anger only serves to prolong the status quo and to make working together harder.

Our house was built in 1930 and sits directly across the street from what used to be the farmhouse that owned all the land. Our backyard slopes down to another road. Anytime we dig we find old trash. Our backyard must have been the dump of the farm.

I do know that there are folx in this thread who point out it’s less generational and more class warfare. True. I think the issue with the olds is the lack of ability to want to learn seems to be more on their side? Not to say the lack isn’t across the board but having a convo about gender identity is harder with an asshole boomer than an asshole gen Z.

Similar to the Russians’ desire for other countries’ citizens to have a negative opinion of all Americans, only about one-third of America is the issue. However, they want less politically informed nations to blame all Americans. Most of us are working multiple jobs to afford our living and healthcare costs, making it next to impossible to have any free time.

Boomer here. Excellent point. I was mostly a lone voice at work. Then again those I worked with never bothered to be the least bit informed. I also worked with much younger folks that were not any more informed. In fact, most all the people in our rural area are also young and grossly misinformed and they love it.

I minimize plastics use, recycle anything that can be, reuse/renew whenever possible, minimize all use of products dangerous to the environment/ecosystems, educate myself on the issues and candidates and then vote in every election, volunteer for political campaigns, I educate my children about the environment (including what we do to minimize our impact and why it’s a problem at all) and politics (including the importance of voting, how to research candidates and issues). Yes, there is more I could do, but I think I do a pretty good amount–far above the average. My kids won’t blame me, even if the memes blame my generation.
I wouldn’t go out of my way to make older generations feel bad because that isn’t solving anything, but I would educate them so that maybe their votes will be better going forward.

Yeah, but then again my Mum (boomer) and grandparents (silent gen) are left leaning, Palestine supporting/donating Canadians. Then there are people I know my age on the cusp of Millennial and Zoomer who support Israel and while not conservative are extremely politically ignorant
