metjam.co.uk/…/hottest-day-of-each-year-from-1875…
Highest were over 30C regularly in the 1800’s and later a peak under 30C was rare.
35C is NOT ‘extreme’ for humans or an exceptional temperature.
Yes it’s hot. But nothing more than that. - Comment on UK weather: Amber extreme heat warning issued as 35C heatwave approaches 1 hour ago:
I can take 45C on holiday if it’s dry heat.
But 24C and humid feels horrible.
But ‘dangerous’ is as exaggerated as ‘extreme’
Unless you’re old or have health issues. - Comment on UK weather: Amber extreme heat warning issued as 35C heatwave approaches 3 hours ago:
It doesn’t matter where you are, or that it has occurred more.
It’s relative to what humans feel.
30C was never uncommon in the summer.
Even for UK calling that ‘extreme’ is sensationalism.
Extreme would be closer to 40C - Comment on UK weather: Amber extreme heat warning issued as 35C heatwave approaches 4 hours ago:
35C is not ‘extreme heat’
It’s called summer.

Dubstep is just as much a recycled genre/subgenre as anything else?
If you’re after something new to your ears it really shouldn’t fit neatly into any genre, right?I have to disagree.
There is obviously a use of dub basslines but how it was used and everything else about it gave me that buzz I only get from a new genre.
That moment when you’re witnessing the next step in the evolution of electronic music.
Same as I had when hearing jungle for the first time, even if that also had faster recycled loops.
It was undeniably new and a genre in itself.
TBC it’s not the being ‘new’ that is important, but the fact that I have a lot of stuff to listen to from artists exploring the new genre.
I really like floating points BTW, the rest I haven’t heard of.who was doing lush layered multi instrument compositions like this over electronic music pre-2000 not named Bjork?
I think there’s a few.
You name some individual artists here, of course there are plenty with their own unique sound, for me Autechre is the best example.
So yes there’s plenty of stuff to listen to, old stuff, cumbia, folk or whatever, but as I said, it’s been a long time since I’ve heard anything that can be justifiably labeled as a new genre in electronic music leading to a wave of artists exploring that specific discovered road. - Comment on Music just isn't good anymore 2 weeks ago:
I have a question about electronic music only.
Since it really exploded in the 80’s/90’s plenty genres have evolved.
But for me I can’t think of anything after dubstep in 2003 that is worth being called ‘new’.
Recycling and sub-genres at best.
Like everything has been done before. Does anyone feel this way or am I missing something? - Comment on Music just isn't good anymore 2 weeks ago:
Isn’t that proof?
They’re not new artists.
And there are millions of people making music, of course there are exceptions to the general trend.
But thanks for the tip. Dusting off my chromatic dreamcoat and checking it out right now. - Comment on Music just isn't good anymore 2 weeks ago:

- Comment on Italy’s top court rules against tourist refused tap water in Dolomites hotel 3 weeks ago:
It’s a high end resort with its own heli pad.
They will serve the cuisine and drinks they have on their undoubtedly carefully curated menu.
If they don’t like it, don’t go there, leave a nasty Yelp review or whatever, end of story. This has absolutely nothing to do with ‘access to sanitation’ as you imagine here or worse that woman’s dramatic claim of violating her human rights to water.
Making the equation with billions of people that are suffering and dying to this day from lack of warter is grotesk and offensive.
This pretentious Karen wasted the court’s time and resources twice for her shameful whims.
It improves absolutely nothing. - Comment on Italy’s top court rules against tourist refused tap water in Dolomites hotel 3 weeks ago:
Guess she’s not the only Karen.
You would probably cry about your human right to food being violated when a 3 star restaurant denies you entrance because you showed up in your filthy flip flops. - Comment on Italy’s top court rules against tourist refused tap water in Dolomites hotel 3 weeks ago:
I’m glad she lost.
More than a billion people lack safe drinking water and almost two and a half billion live without access to sanitation systems.
It’s about getting people out of poverty, making sure multinationals don’t steal or pollute drinking water for their benefit, etc…
That’s the reason why the UN and other organizations declared it a universal human right.
Or on an individual level a dangerously dehydrated person in some desert should not be refused water.
This woman’s situation having to buy a bottle is in no way comparable and frankly it’s insulting.
That place is a high end ski resort.
She shouldn’t be surprised when they don’t want to serve tap water.
It’s a snobby attitude, “vulgar tap water is something the plebs drink!”
The kind of place where they also charge extras for the smallest of services.
We don’t have to like it but it’s the place she chose to stay in.
In no way did she not have access to water. If she really wanted to drink tap water she could’ve filled a bottle in her undoubtedly fancy bathroom. But probably she didn’t want to look like the a cheapskate.
So no, her human rights have not been violated.
This is rich Karen drama queen behavior. - Comment on Wowee 3 weeks ago:

- Comment on "Public deserves to know”: Harvard Professor says official messaging contradicts hantavirus science 5 weeks ago:
The NEJM article says a possible 8 weeks transmissibility (in some cases).
So even 42 days isn’t enough.
And many people couldn’t even follow their short Covid quarantine at home.
I don’t believe they can all handle 6 weeks, and certainly not in a safe way if they are made to believe it’s not easily transmitted.
Their relatives will get it.
Totally inadequate measures and wildly irresponsible for a virus with a 2.19R factor and 35-50% mortality. - Comment on "Public deserves to know”: Harvard Professor says official messaging contradicts hantavirus science 5 weeks ago:
R factor of 2.19!
And mortality of 35% to 50%!
Glad you made the distinction between Andes and ‘normal’ Hanta which they (mis)use to say it’s not so alarming.www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa2009040
I am certainly a bit concerned, especially how nonchalant they handle it, trusting on self-quarantine and this for 2 weeks less than is required for Andes virus.
- Comment on "Public deserves to know”: Harvard Professor says official messaging contradicts hantavirus science 5 weeks ago:
It is respiratory if it’s the Andes Hantavirus, and it is.
These tourists literally went to the Andes.
While the first one has an R of 0,8 Andes has an R factor of 2.19 (see article below)
Anything R>2 has a high risk of large-scale epidemics.
Even for Covid is was difficult to determine the R-factor but 3.28 to 4.22 is significantly higher than initial WHO estimates of 1.4–2.5.
And this disease has not been thoroughly studied.
Another isue I found from this article says it can be transmitted to up to 8 weeks (even if exceptional).
I only know from NL and Be where the passengers have to quarantine for only 6 weeks.
And this in their homes.
This sounds verry risky and irresponsible.
Except for the passengers that left in St Helens and possible crew members ‘escaping’ the source (ship) was a good opportunity to end this quickly.
I feel like they’re taking big risks.
Especially if those quarantined believe the low risk transmissibility narrative. - Comment on The Cock-of-the-rock is one of the most difficult Brazilian birds to find in the world. 5 weeks ago:
