So this season has definitely had its downs and weird choices, but this was an excellent episode. I want to especially call out the music - it was stirring in a way that very little of other TV Trek’s ‘musical wallpaper’ is.
My only hiccup was a weird undercurrent I picked up on in the trial that is admittedly my own projection. With everything going on in the world I totally get Nus Braka’s anger and desire to just burn it all down, which probably says more about me than I’d care to admit lol. What I really don’t like is the ‘haves’ (the Federation; the billionaires; the wealthy countries) essentially lecturing the ‘have nots’ (the worlds failed by the Federation; us normal people; the struggling countries that have been abused by the wealthy countries) that they can’t be angry at them and the situation; they just don’t understand the burden they carry. Even with Nahle’s reframing of Braka’s situation, we know there are worlds that the Federation has failed badly, and they need to understand that for every Braka, there will be more angry people with legitimate grievances and you can’t just tell to ‘calm down’. I’m not talking about what Nahle said to Alisha, more about her lecture toward Braka at the end.
I know that wasn’t their intention but I can’t get it out of my head and it leaves a sour taste in my mouth.
Oh those end credits were awesome though!

Fair point. I’m sure my thoughts on this episode will soften over time (they always do), but I think my dislike of both the character of Tarima and the way she is played are making it hard for me to be invested in her story lines.

Maybe it was because of Mary Wiseman, but for some reason this felt like a Discovery episode, and not in a good way. I liked Tilly on Discovery, but here she just annoyed me for some reason, felt very smug in all her dealings with the cadets.

I agree that I felt this was the weakest. This felt like actors writing an episode for actors about the healing power of ACTING! Just…calm down and see a real mental health professional.
Cableb and Tarima have negative chemistry, and I wish the writers would stop trying to make that happen, but here we are.
The stuff with SAM was great and should have been the A-plot.
Overall I’m still liking the show but this was definitely one of the weakest so far.

That may be true. Still a company, still doesn’t care about anyone besides as a consumer. I don’t get the weird parasocial relationships people develop with any company/corporation.

I really hope this marks the end of the internet’s weird love fest with this company and CEO. They don’t care about you in the slightest.

I don’t play MTG, but I don’t understand how this fits into the game’s fantasy setting at all, or why anyone would want random crossovers like this?

If anything, I found it a best too earnest and self-congratulatory. Like, I love Star Trek, but it’s just a TV show!

Stop trying to be ‘cool’ (or whatever you think is cool). Star Trek was never cool. Just do Star Trek and the right people will find it.

- Comment on We all took the DVD boom era for granted 1 year ago:
We still get DVDs from our library of whatever show we are watching now, even if we are subbed to whatever service they are on. No ads, deleted scenes, & bonus features? Sign me up! Even saves time, we can watch one episode in about 15 minutes less compared to streaming. Since we watch at night after the kid goes to bed those 15 minutes are more valuable than you’d think.
