I’ve made a habit of wiping the contacts on the earbud and case before putting it away, then I give the bud a bit of a wiggle once it’s in so the contacts rub together and hopefully dislodge/break through any dirt or oil.
When one earbud decides to not charge and I need to remove it from the case and put it back. And I even sometimes don't realize that...

I miss when people made fun of those who bought wireless earbuds.

skill issue. pay less get headphones with wires
tankfox@midwest.social 1 year ago
My man I got a set of wireless earbuds for ten bucks at a hardware store. How much less could wired ones cost? A banana?
Interstellar_1@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 year ago
probably not much less, but you could definitely get wired ones with a much better build quality
PolydoreSmith@lemmy.world 1 year ago
It’s one banana, Michael, how much could it cost?

Wireless earbud batteries always give out after a few months with me. I just paid double the price for good wired headphones like Moondrops after my fifth dead pair. They’ve lasted me three years and multiple trips in the washer and dryer so far. The bass is also pretty decent for such a small form factor.
N00b22@lemmy.ml 1 year ago
I got those for free with my phone
psx_crab@lemmy.zip 1 year ago
This is ass. Sometime i have to jiggle the bud for it to make contact even after cleaning the contact point.
rumba@lemmy.zip 1 year ago
If your buds have exposed metal contacts get some deox-it
Or at least use a magic eraser on the contacts that you can get to.
Mbourgon@lemmy.world 1 year ago
My Jabras are horrid about that.
perishthethought@piefed.social 1 year ago
And my Samsung Galaxy buds too.
Bebopalouie@lemmy.ca 1 year ago
Mine are so cheap they have separated on the Bluetooth and are now considered two independent devices on both my phone and computer.
possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 1 year ago
You just need to clean the base

I guess this is a pro for AirPods because I don’t think I’ve encountered this in the many years of owning em.
Rai@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 year ago
My AirPods never did this, but my AirPod Pros do this sometimes. I think it’s cuz I never clean the contacts, but alas.
I don’t use my regular AirPods much after getting my pros last year, but I gotta say… fuckin amazing headphones. My old regular pair still lasts 2-3 hours on a charge, and I used them 40+ hours weekly for years.
N00b22@lemmy.ml 1 year ago
Yeah this is one of the few issues I have found on the Buds FE (at least the pair I have rn). Other than that, they are pretty good for the price
b34k@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Happens to my AirPod Pro 2s all the time…
isVeryLoud@lemmy.ca 1 year ago
Never had this issue with my Pixel Buds Pro either.
bluesheep@sh.itjust.works 1 year ago
My airpods only recently started working properly again, I probably dropped them too many times. The left bud wouldn’t charge without me holding it in a specific position, and at some point even that stopped working. After a while they (somewhat) started working as normal again tho.

Yes this also infuriates me

Name and shame, would love to know what brands to avoid
Mothra@mander.xyz 1 year ago
Jabra does it regularly for me. I’m not sure if it’s a brand issue tbh, it could very well be the amount of oils and wax in my ear, which in my opinion isn’t out of the ordinary but it prevents an earbud from recharging properly. Sometimes it won’t do until I wipe with alcohol. Visually there is no difference between before and after wiping.
I’ve complained in the past and I got a lot of Jabra zealots swearing they’ve never had anything like this happen to them. Also I haven’t tried wireless from other brands yet so take that into account.

My AirPod Pros do this sometimes, but I think it’s cuz I don’t clean the contacts ever.

This happens all the time with my PineBuds. It's infuriating

Mine died :(
piefood@feddit.online 1 year ago
Mine eventually did too :(
I'm on the lookout for better headphones, but I feel like I'm going to be stuck with a cable for a while, since BT is so bad
UltraBlack@lemmy.world 1 year ago
I’m glad I stopped at the pinephones. They fucking suck
Lumisal@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Well, they do constantly state everywhere it’s tech made for tinkering with, not made to be used as a regular consumer.
Peculiaris@lemmy.zip 1 year ago
Haha, never moved to earbuds, was sticking to neckbands fn.
Though after the VP’s comments, Imma getting the wired earphones next!

Wired IEMs but wireless with the Qudelix 5K 💪
manmachine@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Once you get them custom molded to your ears, you won’t want to go back.
ToiletFlushShowerScream@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Got mine years ago, solidly built, have replaceable bits, and they sound as good as the day they arrived, so much better than the buds from apple or Samsung.
eezeebee@lemmy.ca 1 year ago
Any recommendations?
I tried the Moondrop Chu 2 and they were great, but after 6 months of daily use the sound is partially cutting out and I have to jiggle the wire to “fix” it temporarily. Need something more durable.
Darkassassin07@lemmy.ca 1 year ago
meeaudio.com/products/m6pro?_pos=3&_psq=M6+pro&_s…
Excellent sound quality, durable+replaceable cables, and options between a TRS(aux) cable, USB C cable, or even a Bluetooth adapter.
AndyMFK@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 year ago
As the other replier mentioned crinicle is great for reviews. For IEMs I use the original moondrop Chu and they’re good, I also use the kz zsn pro. Also good. But ultimately i really only use IEMs when I’m out on a run or walking to the shops where sound quality isn’t as important. If at home I’ll use over ear headphones and I have beyerdynamics dt770s which are great and super comfy (also built like a tank if durability is a concern)
timbuck2themoon@sh.itjust.works 1 year ago
Whatever the guy that starts with c- reviews them all. I’ve had good luck with his truthear reds. Only $50 but great for my needs.
idunnololz@lemmy.world 1 year ago
I spent half a decade trying IEMs. Honestly its a journey. You need to find sognatures you like. I found that i like mostly flat response. My go tos are etymotic research. I’ve been usingthe ER3s for the past 5 years.
