You’re contradicting yourself. If self checkout isn’t for people with 8 bags, then you’re saying you do need someone to bag your groceries for you.
But you’re also missing the fact that a lot of stores don’t have human checkouts anymore, so if you need 8 bags of groceries, you don’t have a choice
- Comment on Bleep bloop 1 week ago:
Are you really gonna scan, and bag 8 bags worth of shopping in an area the size of a postage stamp with a clanker malfunctioning every 8 items, faster than a professional could do it it?
- Comment on Bleep bloop 1 week ago:
So much easier to let a real person do it, plus it keeps them in a job and you don’t have to do unpaid labour. Win-win.
- Comment on The Steam Frame Is More Than Just Another VR Headset - Aftermath (Chris Person) 2 weeks ago:
Just wanted to say thanks, this page mentions the ignition drivers for Linux. My Sim racing rig is the only PC that runs windows in my house purely because I have an HP reverb G2 headset for racing. this might finally get me completely off windows, which is a sensational feeling

Can you tell me more, is this just for the Lenovo explorer, or other wmr headsets?

If it makes you feel any better, the surveillance state is always watching you.
- Comment on Yes, I use Debian stable. How'd you know? 4 weeks ago:
I’m in this image and I feel good about it, the manual transmission, the PS2 (although I did pick up a ps5 recently to play gta 6), the analogue watch, the leather wallet, I don’t have a discman, but I do have an MP3 player, the seperate audio system with a turnable, the zippo lighter, and a classic scientific calculator. All things I use frequently.
And yes I use Debian stable
- Comment on Are you too young to remember these? 1 month ago:
My modern ish sony Bravia TV still has these. My PS2 is currently connected to them.

No shame in paying for the things you use, even if you are funding Google. But when you say messing around with blockers. Are you talking about installing a single extension?
I assume you use that extension anyway because its the only way the internet is even remotely usable

- Comment on For those who are super against to AI/LLM today. What was the catalyst how did you reach to this point? If you have the power to change our current situation what would you do. 2 months ago:
I’ve always held this view from the beginning, there was no catalyst.
Ai is trained on stolen data, and poses an incredible environmental risk. It outsources critical thinking. Everyone I know who uses it regularly has shown significant cognitive decline in the last few years because they’re not thinking for themselves anymore.
How do we get to the point of not having ai? Pretty easy. Stop using it. Don’t buy products that have it, don’t use products that have it, don’t use software that is written with it. Boycott it entirely. Honestly it’s not hard
- Comment on Bill to raise minimum wage to $25 an hour will be introduced in Senate 2 months ago:
I think you’re getting the point a lot of Americans miss. Raising the minimum wage helps everybody and gives you the freedom to leave a job you hate. It also gives you more bargaining power. If you can leave your job for a minimum wage job and your take home pay barely changes, they’re gonna have to figure out a way to pay you more to keep you

There’s been great music forever, there will continue to be great music forever.
The hard part is finding it.

Doesn’t even need to be a Bluetooth speaker. If you turn the volume up enough you can use the wired speakers on your stereo system or home theatre system

Personally the more popular an artist or band is, the less likely I’ll enjoy their music.
This is broadly speaking and not universal, there are big exceptions like radiohead, massive attack, aphex twin, BICEP and tool, but for the most part, if something is in the charts, I’m probably going to hate it

My school taught Indonesian. It was a very popular complaint among students that we should be learning a more ubiquitous language like French, German, Japanese, Mandarin, or Spanish.
The only thing I know in Indonesian is ular besar (big snake)

I’m learning to manually change gears for my first time in my 30s, but on a bike.
Agreed, it is incredibly humbling. I’ve been driving for over half my life, and now I’m struggling to operate a vehicle all over again.
- Comment on Nearly 90% of Windows Games now run on Linux, latest data shows — as Windows 10 dies, gaming on Linux is more viable than ever 11 months ago:
One of the most frequently suggested beginner distros is Linux mint. It’s great, it’s stable, it’s what I use and while it’s not exactly cutting edge, or necessary the prettiest distro, it’s great for beginners and will feel pretty familiar coming from windows.
Pop_os! And bazzite are more “gaming focused” if that’s more your style, but I’ve never had an issue gaming with Linux mint.
Ultimately, it doesn’t really matter terribly much. Pick one, install it to a new drive and try it out. If you don’t like it, pick another one.
