  Biscoff trifle made. Just need to add the whipped cream on top while I’ll do just before serving. I hope it’s going to be a hit. The biscoff cream called for the whole tub of spread and it tasted pretty good on my sampling.

  Garlic butter for garlic bread made. The local Italian supermarket was out of the long ciabatta rolls I wanted to use for this, so need to go back earlier tomorrow to secure. The worker said ciabatta man delivers the goods at 9am tomorrow.

  Clean up time then I’m hitting the beers to celebrate no more work for 2024! I’ve got some spiced rum which I used in the trifle, l’ll be sampling on its own tonight. Don’t think I’ve ever had it.

  what I’m contributing/cooking this xmas

  there’s a big xmas lunch/dinner at the younger generation house

  this year I’m doing bulk home made mini sausage rolls, fairy bread, a big salad, shortbread biscuits and am bringing rose wine, some baileys and much bundy lemonade ( plus I stuff a few hundreds in the hands of the hosts for their efforts, it costs a lot to cook big dinners )

    I was going to bring chocolates too but there’s not much point, they’ll just melt. I’ll save them for something else.

  Spent a gift card at Cole’s for some butterflies leg lamb and coleslaw which will be my special treat over the Xmas holidays.

  Super hot outside while I was out and rushed to quickly put the washing on to take advantage of this sun and heat.

  Now I can rest and relax!! Woot!

  I am starting to run out of room in my kitchen, there are biscuits everywhere! Just one more batch to go & I’ll be finished baking and can start on dividing up & packaging. I did end up doing an extra batch too, as I realised there is nothing vegan friendly, so I made some oat & date biscuits that are vegan and wheat free. I also learned that in Australia you can’t claim something is gluten free if it has oats because some people with Coeliacs Disease react to them, so wheat free is generally used instead.

    Barley, rye, oats, wheat, and triticale all have gluten. I’ve never encountered triticale but I had to memorise that list for an exam decades ago and it seems to be permanently imprinted on my brain.

    I’m so impressed with so much baking, especially in the heat!

  Alright. im bored. And inspired by the end of lower decks I have a question for ya’ll: Whats your “warp” phrase?

  Explainer for non scifi fans

  The captain of the ship usually has their own phrase when they want the ship to go fast. “Engage!”, “Make it so”, “Punch It” and “Warp Me!” are all examples. You dont need to “get scifi” to have one. Just imagine your sitting in a captains chair, what is your catchphrase to make the ship go fast?

  I grew up in the country and with 00’s pop culture. So mine would probably be “Lets fuckin’ GOOOOO!” which is bogan as shit but I stand by it.

    i just play what ever i feel like , it might be new, old, weird. oldies is sometimes nice for a feel but it doesn’t spark energy or new thoughts

  I was just reading about bushfires, and I still don’t really get what the ignition source could be, besides humans and lightning. I’m assuming the heat lights up the fuel (tree debris) to its flashpoint?

    Hot days dry out fuel faster, preheat it and often bring strong winds (especially around cool changes). This is what makes hot days more dangerous than other days. It’s rare to self-ignite, it’s almost always lightning or human activity (arson, powerlines, machinery sparks, cigarettes, campfires etc.).

      bottles or glass shards on the ground can intensify light , making heat then ignition

      it used to be that smokers throwing butts were a known cause of fires but that’s not so much anymore

    windy days lift dust into the air , that dust has a lot of flammable organic matter, at certain temps that dust can ignite, like in a coal mine or flour mill

    the blue haze over forests is eucalyptus oil, on very hot days that can spontaneously combust too, like a BLEVI over a petrol tank

  I didn’t save the pfeffenusse recipe I used last time and I don’t think this one is as good - the other ones were a bit softer and spread, these ones are hard round balls. I realised too late that I emailed someone the recipe last time, so have managed to find it for next time at least.

  Currently 31° outside, and 27.7° inside. I set myself up for failure because I went to sleep with my window open and it was both 25 inside and outside by the time I woke up

  I have to go back to the old place today to vacuum and grab my cleaning supplies and such. After that, it’ll probably be about 30° inside. I’ve got some ice blocks in the freezer (but don’t currently have an ice cube tray), so I’m gonna find a way to suspend those behind the high velocity fan to try and get some cooling happening. Or maybe I could put them in a big bowl with some water and that might be a bit more efficient

  Gotta hand the keys back after I finish up today. Then my move will be finalized. Spooky. Unfortunately my parcel hasn’t moved from Dandenong South yet, so I do find it unlikely that it arrives today. Hopefully tomorrow.

  The zukes are making pollen now. Yesterday there was a tiny black native bee rooting around in there covered in pollen and some male flowers I snipped for the fridge. Today there’s one female flower open and 3 males so I used a cotton bud to pollinate and snipped those to save as well.

  I’m going through some shit emotionally but have no idea how to handle it so I’m just kind of doing practical things and trying to process or let it settle :(

  I used the photo of my biscuits to make a little labelled handout, with what each one is and which ones are vegan/wheat/dairy/gluten free. It looks very spiffy if I do say so myself.

  The gift bags I printed out are going to be way too small, so I’m going to attach the Christmas pictures to a brown paper bag instead and add a couple of decorations.

  I made it to the op shop again. It’s still a bit of a big walk for me though 🫠 I definitely pay for it over the next few days.

  But at least I took the dented/disliked flavour cat food down to the community pantry. 12 cans. Those were meant to go to the shelter ages ago but someone else took them out of the bag and put them back in the cupboard when I wasn’t looking.

  There’s an unopened pack of toothbrushes somewhere I won’t use. A pack of pasta I bought but won’t eat. If my plants start producing a lot of veg I could maybe take the extra down there.

  I wonder what the etiquette is on buying big multipacks of soap or tp and re-wrapping them individually to share them out more equally. Is that sus or acceptable
