It’s almost midnight and I am hungry. To eat or not to eat, that is the question.
Have a glass of milk, that might hold you over
5 days left until the big day. Now that I have a choice, I don’t think I’m going to celebrate. I was considering buying a roast or a ham and doing something with it, but I don’t think I’m really even interested in that. It doesn’t really make me sad or anything, but it doesn’t bring me joy, so it just seems like a waste of time thing that I do to make other people happy
New Year’s I’ve decided I’ll stay home. My entire life I wanted to see fireworks, but pre 2019 was complicated by loving in the country. 2019 I was too young, 2020 they replaced it with a “3 day food and wine tasting festival”, 2021 I got COVID and was too sick to go, 2022 and 2023 I finally saw them! But repetitive now I reckon. I’ll probably watch them on tv and might order in a midnight kebab or something for the same vibe
Mate you don’t have to do anything if you don’t want to, but be kind to yourself. You’ve had a big year and done more adulting than most people do in their entire lives.
I don’t like speaking on behalf of others but I will this time. We are all so very proud of you. Treat yourself to something nice. Make that a new tradition. Much love 💜
Thanks
when I lived alone I would go to so many parties before xmas but on xmas day it was a just a quiet day. I liked the non stress I had not having the drama of dysfunctional family.
You should do something small for you. Start a new tradition. If thats as simple as “eat a toasty and play video games all day” then thats awesome. As far as new years: yeah you see TONS more on TV than going into the city. The city sucks, and new years is even worse.
I haven’t actually gone into the city for fireworks before. Too busy and hectic for me. I have however gone into the city around 2am or 10pm to laugh at how everything is falling to pieces, though. 2022 was at St. Kilda, but I didn’t realize I couldn’t see the city fireworks from there (but someone set some off on the beach so it was all good). 2023 was at Williamstown Beach which was alright although when drunk people started screaming and people started setting off fireworks into the audience I decided it was time to bail
Go full ham.
not a bad idea to buy a big ham, then it’s eggs and home cut fried ham steaks for lunches for the next few weeks. Quiches, salads, with pasta sandwiches . yum, I haven’t done this for years, maybe I should again 🙂
Can I get a small ham? I don’t want to spend 4 hours cooking (or $50 on a giant piece of meat)
I used the photo of my biscuits to make a little labelled handout, with what each one is and which ones are vegan/wheat/dairy/gluten free. It looks very spiffy if I do say so myself.
The gift bags I printed out are going to be way too small, so I’m going to attach the Christmas pictures to a brown paper bag instead and add a couple of decorations.
The recipients of these gifts are very very lucky people. Q
Why’d you have to go and make things so complicated?
Prior experience of handing around things at work and fielding constant questions about what everything is. Making a leaflet will save me lots of time.
Final home stretch.
Now stuck in a presentation that hasn’t started on time.
Lunch to follow after which I hope to bugger off home as long as I don’t get held back by anything.
youse guys are putting me to shame, I have shortbread bikkies to make and haven’t started other than buying the ingredients and putting the butter out to soften
I made rum balls last week. Some for a function last weekend, the others for Christmas day. We have none left for Christmas day, because someone keeps sneaking them 🙄 I’d you haven’t baked yet, it’s safer.
and I’m done for the year!
Spent a gift card at Cole’s for some butterflies leg lamb and coleslaw which will be my special treat over the Xmas holidays.
Super hot outside while I was out and rushed to quickly put the washing on to take advantage of this sun and heat.
Now I can rest and relax!! Woot!
Gah I hate autocorrect.
Butterflied leg of lamb that was meant to be with mint and rosemary.
Hell yeah!!! Time for a break ❤️
Gonna try individually netting apricot branches this year. Tempted to even double net a few see if that helps.
Not going to hold my breath but hopefully we get a few.
fruit bats are very sneaky
The random $45.67 I got in my bank account yesterday was indeed from the ATO! Seems like a calculation was done that determined I paid that much too much towards my HECS which is now paid off
45 dollars to spent on kippers.
Sky orange. Is it dust from wind or smoke from fires?
Someone in the other DT linked the satellite feed. Wind is dragging smoke from the Grampians fire over the city.
Fire. Sun RED
Very apocalyptic looking outside, and now the smoke smell has hit where I am, it’s really strong.
So much for drying my clothes.
I thought it looked a little bit strange outside.
Yeah I noticed that too. 2019 vibes 😬
I think it’s smoke from the fires in the Grampians
I noticed the weird sky about half an hour ago but now I can smell smoke. I hope everyone is safe. This is gonna be a long tough summer.
There’s also a bushfire out in The Gurdies towards Philip Island past Cranbourne. It’s a lot smaller and fresher, but that’s probably contributing, at least to the SE folk
Yeh everything is superrr orangey in the city
“From Youtube Sensation Mr Beast Comes A…” Nope. Dont care. Not even a little bit. good luck with that netflix or Disney or whoever the fuck.
I saw that ad too, don’t these people know that beast was found to be a total fraud?
Dammit. Forgot the garlic dip again!
it’s super easy to make your own
I use greek yoghurt , a little gourmet garden garlic and I sprinkle with sweet paprika
Noooo. It’s not the same. The only way to make it is with garlic, salt, lemon and a shitload of oil. And about 10 minutes of blending.
Ps. I know you mean well though. Please forgive me.
Alright. im bored. And inspired by the end of lower decks I have a question for ya’ll: Whats your “warp” phrase?
The captain of the ship usually has their own phrase when they want the ship to go fast. “Engage!”, “Make it so”, “Punch It” and “Warp Me!” are all examples. You dont need to “get scifi” to have one. Just imagine your sitting in a captains chair, what is your catchphrase to make the ship go fast?
I grew up in the country and with 00’s pop culture. So mine would probably be “Lets fuckin’ GOOOOO!” which is bogan as shit but I stand by it.
Don’t dilly-dally.
Hehe. The arabic word for walk is m-she. If I’m walking with a slow poke I like to do a whipping action and command “m-she m-she”.
Mine is ‘chop chop!’ With some emphasis. Next level down is ‘Let’s pronto this’.
Send it
Yeah bruz fuckin seeeeeennnnddd it screeeeech
Giddy up or quick sticks. I’m sure there’s more.
Oh i like Giffy Up! will you be pairing this with a cowboy had an a bit of straw out of your mouth? Cause thats a pretty cool look on a starship.
Raus!
Roll the r
Engage!
TheVoid is having an argument with the new mop. It is cute and ridiculous.
Never thought I’d live to see the day 27° feels cool
I’ve managed to reduce the inside temp down to 27.3. Limited because I don’t want to open up my blinds, so it’s just the window behind them
I am starting to run out of room in my kitchen, there are biscuits everywhere! Just one more batch to go & I’ll be finished baking and can start on dividing up & packaging. I did end up doing an extra batch too, as I realised there is nothing vegan friendly, so I made some oat & date biscuits that are vegan and wheat free. I also learned that in Australia you can’t claim something is gluten free if it has oats because some people with Coeliacs Disease react to them, so wheat free is generally used instead.
I’m up. kitchen cleaning is well under way, then more clothes drying and folding, then look after the garden, vacuuming, take rubbish downstairs, clean up cat room, etc etc. then shopping
it never ends
Good night everyone . 😘

I have been listening to Chelsea Wolfe all day. Such a gloomy princess.
I didn’t save the pfeffenusse recipe I used last time and I don’t think this one is as good - the other ones were a bit softer and spread, these ones are hard round balls. I realised too late that I emailed someone the recipe last time, so have managed to find it for next time at least.
Currently 31° outside, and 27.7° inside. I set myself up for failure because I went to sleep with my window open and it was both 25 inside and outside by the time I woke up
I have to go back to the old place today to vacuum and grab my cleaning supplies and such. After that, it’ll probably be about 30° inside. I’ve got some ice blocks in the freezer (but don’t currently have an ice cube tray), so I’m gonna find a way to suspend those behind the high velocity fan to try and get some cooling happening. Or maybe I could put them in a big bowl with some water and that might be a bit more efficient
Gotta hand the keys back after I finish up today. Then my move will be finalized. Spooky. Unfortunately my parcel hasn’t moved from Dandenong South yet, so I do find it unlikely that it arrives today. Hopefully tomorrow.
Whenever you add to a food drive, what do youse like to add? I like to give pancake mixtures and cake mixtures. Something a bit different.
Made and ate a giant sandwich for breakfast.
It fell apart and I required a fork.
I made it to the op shop again. It’s still a bit of a big walk for me though 🫠 I definitely pay for it over the next few days.
But at least I took the dented/disliked flavour cat food down to the community pantry. 12 cans. Those were meant to go to the shelter ages ago but someone else took them out of the bag and put them back in the cupboard when I wasn’t looking.
There’s an unopened pack of toothbrushes somewhere I won’t use. A pack of pasta I bought but won’t eat. If my plants start producing a lot of veg I could maybe take the extra down there.
I wonder what the etiquette is on buying big multipacks of soap or tp and re-wrapping them individually to share them out more equally. Is that sus or acceptable
I’m trying to build up my physical fitness again and it’s hard as balls. Probably because I’m not nourished but I’m doing the best I can.
There’s so much I would rather be doing than bed rotting, and I’m really scared about the times support isn’t available. That little bit of strength can mean the difference between being able to manage something important vs not
Oopsie almost gave my neighbour a gift with four of something. No 100% sure where she is from, but best not!
Last day for me, going to finish up cleaning the factory and some of the equipment. The dough rollers and mixers need detailing, boring but necessary.

I was just reading about bushfires, and I still don’t really get what the ignition source could be, besides humans and lightning. I’m assuming the heat lights up the fuel (tree debris) to its flashpoint?
Pilk@aussie.zone 1 day ago
Hot days dry out fuel faster, preheat it and often bring strong winds (especially around cool changes). This is what makes hot days more dangerous than other days. It’s rare to self-ignite, it’s almost always lightning or human activity (arson, powerlines, machinery sparks, cigarettes, campfires etc.).
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 1 day ago
bottles or glass shards on the ground can intensify light , making heat then ignition
it used to be that smokers throwing butts were a known cause of fires but that’s not so much anymore
sparks from exhaust pipes
Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone 1 day ago
When black Saturday happened, from where I was living i could see an entire side of a mountain on fire. It was unreal.
From a lightning strike.
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 1 day ago
windy days lift dust into the air , that dust has a lot of flammable organic matter, at certain temps that dust can ignite, like in a coal mine or flour mill
the blue haze over forests is eucalyptus oil, on very hot days that can spontaneously combust too, like a BLEVI over a petrol tank
