I’ve just got distant ominous rumbling here, it looks on the radar like the storm is passing to the south of me.
melbaboutown@aussie.zone 2 months ago
I’m really sorry if my mood lately is affecting anyone else. I used to tough things out, macgyver my way around problems or distract myself with projects but life has been really difficult for a long time now and I am struggling severely.
If I seem really fractious or oddly rough/blunt in my manner it is not at you.
Cendana@aussie.zone 2 months ago
-big hugs-
Baku@aussie.zone 2 months ago
Melba, please stop it. You’ve got so many horrible things happening at the moment, and as you said yourself the other day, can’t seem to catch a break. Nobody expects you to be all happy and upbeat
And I haven’t noticed you being short, rude, or disrespectful to myself or anyone else. So keep venting as you need, and when things improve, you can shout us brekky at Bacon’s food truck :)
StudChud@aussie.zone 2 months ago
It’s okay Melba, I havent noticed you being blunt or anything :) besides, being fractious is understandable with having to deal with your health and melbcat’s, and the stress of it all.
We love you, I don’t think you could do anything to turn us against you :D
imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone 2 months ago
^^ this. I have never thought you were whiny or otherwise antisocial. Please vent away. You are going through shit and we are here for you. I like to hear your updates, and I feel good when you have little wins.

I wonder if constant strange weather is going to effect each of our psyche’s and well as national mood.
it’s known hot weather and windy weather effects us, what if strange weather was a constant
Baku@aussie.zone 2 months ago
I think it definitely will. If nothing else, wetter, windier days (and longer periods of them) lead to more accidents, disasters, and general chaos. And hotter and hotter days lead to a bigger strain on the power grid, and tougher conditions for the vulnerable and people who can’t afford to run air conditioning. Although, at least recently, that seems like it’s been happening more in the northern hemisphere and we’ve been mostly copping the colder and wilder weather
With the weather getting crazier, I wonder if the gen alphas might find it easier to adapt to, having been born into a pandemic and worsening climate change. I wonder if everyone else, millennials and prior especially, will find it trickier to adapt to, having grown up in more consistent weather.
All in all though, I think the cost of living crisis and the lack of housing affordability is going to be the biggest and most immediate burden on everyone’s mental health and wellbeing in the future, rather than crazy weather and climate change

I want whatever drugs the BoM is on. Supposed to be 20C tonight? Going up to 23? In what universe…
Baku@aussie.zone 2 months ago
Dear The BoM,
I hope this message finds you well, although I’m beginning to wonder if perhaps you’ve recently indulged in some rather… creative forecasting methods, shall we say? Crack cocaine, maybe? No judgement, but your prediction that it will be 23°C overnight has left me scratching my head. It’s currently 17.5°C, raining, and we have winds fast enough to launch my rubbish bins into another suburb. A balmy 23°C just seems, well, ambitious.
Speaking of ambition, you promised us a delightful 27°C tomorrow, which I was frankly looking forward to. But now, out of nowhere, 23°C is all we get? What happened to our summer dreams? Was the 27°C forecast just a fleeting fantasy?
I trust you’ll look into this sudden shift, and kindly consider laying off whatever inspired such optimistic figures. I’ll be sure to hold on tight to my umbrella and hopes in the meantime.
Sincerely,
BakuSituationCake@aussie.zone 2 months ago
I got a good laugh out of this.

just heard a long time raver friend passed away.
Her family went over to hers’ on father’s day to see why she wasn’t picking up. She had a fall in the bathroom and hit her head. Apparently she’d been there for 2 days. She was only in her 30’s. I really cannot imagine what that’d be like finding your daughter and sister that way.
I’m at a loss for words.
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 2 months ago
That’s awful. I’m so sorry.

I’m doing an open day trial at a co-working space today as I seriously need to get out of the house at least one day a week, full time WFH gets super monotonous. The office I’m at is new and super nice, if a bit loud. It’s nice to be around people during work time but nobody doing the trial (I think we’re all sitting in the same area) is talking to one another? I’m not sure it’s worth paying to use a co-working space where I just keep to myself, I can do that at home for free. I need to suss whether the place organises networking opportunities for members to mix, to make a membership worth it.
Force_majeure123@aussie.zone 2 months ago
I totally get it. I come in to the office every day to help my mental health
bull@aussie.zone 2 months ago
But how do you have your daily afternoon siesta?
just_kitten@aussie.zone 2 months ago
I also get this, I know most commentators online would rather WFH all the time and don’t get me wrong, I do love 1-2 days WFH in the week - but every single day would drive me to depression (and has done so). Not necessarily because I have no friends/life outside of work but because I like my work to feel like I’m not operating like a slave in solitary confinement all the time (worse yet having that dungeon of confinement be a permanent fixture of my home). I’m really glad I have at least 2-3 work days involving positive colleague interactions that take me out of my headspace
Catfish@aussie.zone 2 months ago
I like working at home, but only the boringest bits of my job can be done there. Te good stuff requires being on site. Unfortunately I lost my ‘office’ to Covid rules and now have to be around other people while there. This sucks rancid donkey gnads

Is the average teenage population really have a lack of respect?
Appointment booked for 7.30pm last night. Quick c++ basics lesson and homework help as a favour for my wife’s classmate’s kid. I never used c++ by trade so I spent some time getting familiar with it, and how to play Farkle.
7.30pm comes and the 17yo just bails and says they’re having dinner, no apology. Wife and I were like, fuck it, dumped the appointment and went to sleep at 8pm.
Sent another message this morning reminding them to be there or cancel 4hr before, some notes and a reminder that they don’t have enough time now, and don’t chicken out. Straight up says they promise, no greetings.
TinyBreak@aussie.zone 2 months ago

Nope. Message 'em back and say “Sorry no longer able to assist you”. If they ask why just be blunt “Mate, you were disrespectful as heck, I was helping you as a favor, if your gonna be rude then I dont have to do shit”
Cendana@aussie.zone 2 months ago
Yep, if they fail to show up for the 7.30pm tonight (which was agreed upon on Monday) then that would be the message.
I am contemplating just telling them at the beginning of the meeting, prior to commencing the lesson.
CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 2 months ago
You won’t have manners if they are not taught to you.
Cendana@aussie.zone 2 months ago
I was traumatised to the point of enforcing them lol.
dumblederp@aussie.zone 2 months ago
They did go through a few years of covid that probably fucked them up in ways like this. You could let them know their tone seem unappreciative of being given a tutoring favour. Mind you, I’d’ve thought there was enough online about learning C++ in a self directed manner so maybe the kid just isn’t interested. Don’t measure all 17yo’s by Baku’s level of maturity.
Cendana@aussie.zone 2 months ago
I didn’t directly use Baku as a reference.
But I did have Overwatch friend, so mature I thought they were 25, until they mentioned they suddenly mentioned that they were 15 at the time. So that was the baseline I had since then.
StudChud@aussie.zone 2 months ago
How do we even know Baku is actually 17 🤔 lol but yeah some teens are just… Something else. I think most teens are like normal and respectful, they just test boundaries, it’s what growing up is about lol
Duenan@aussie.zone 2 months ago
Lack of consequences is also part of it.
If they got charged for not cancelling in time they’ll learn real fast.
Baku@aussie.zone 2 months ago
Can confirm. I don’t miss or cancel GP or psych appointments since I started being responsible for paying the late cancellation fees. Not too bad with the GP because they’re just 4 hours notice, the psych may be a problem though since they’re 48 hours. I’m hoping by the time I’m next super sick, I’ll have gone enough they might consider waving it

Off for a drive in the country today. Fingers crossed I can still get petrol at under 190c this afternoon when I need to fill up. I do have a lock on 180c at 7/11, so if it has a massive jump I can at least get the 25c discount. These 40c+ jumps suck.
Duenan@aussie.zone 2 months ago
Use petrolspy!
Baku@aussie.zone 2 months ago
Got it for $1.59 last Friday in Truganina. Well, not me, but a support worker I was with. She had a 4 cents off at Ampol so decided to go to that one which was at $1.59, rather than the one down the road at $1.58, since the discount thingy should bring it down to $1.55. But then they told her they didn’t accept them at this store! Ridiculous
/Rant
tone212_@aussie.zone 2 months ago
I’ve seen under 170c per litre around lately, I’d be re-locking. Just used my app, found 164.9/l. When I was in NZ petrol was almost $3/l! We have it good.

15L of ginger brew. Hesitant to call it beer because the readings make no sense. Fucked up the temperature both directions. Meh if nothing else it will be tasty water to base punch on for party in a few weeks. three demijons of booze

If the kids go down well enough tonight I think I’ll go watch British Lion.
You have to respect Steve Harris’ organisational skills to bring his side project along with his main band and play the Croxton one night, then Rod Laver the next. He’s been playing stadiums for decades now, so there must be something humbling about playing such a comparatively smaller venue like the Croxton before the big show.

Note to self: Never drive from the Ring Rd to the Eastern Fwy via Bulleen Rd. Ever.
That was not a fun route, in the dark and riddled with roadworks. Plus my GPS seemed to think I was a truck over 10m long as it tried to send me on a very inappropriate detour.

Up northside for my haircut after ages and ICE CREAM SOCIAL IS PERMANENTLY CLOSED!!! 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭💔💔💔💔💔💔 I see from insta it’s for serious health reasons, totally understandable but… I miss being able to treat myself to a drop dead delicious slice of pie when I’m in this side of town. Their baked goods were truly sublime

I’ve been reading a book on Hoarding and watching some hoarding clean up videos and it’s seriously making me think about my own tendencies to buy things and keep things.
I do ask myself now before buying if I actually need something , if what already have at home suffices and where would I keep it.
I also take into account if an item makes work. For example, husband wanted a coffee maker, I thought ok, a simple one that’s easy to use and to clean and look after since I’m the one who does that. Not one that would take 20 minutes a day to upkeep. Nope, he wanted one with all bells and whistles . I thought a simple drip coffee maker would suffice but husband wanted the “best”. To me best includes how I am going to use it and how it fits into my life as a whole. I bought a press coffee maker which is a little fussy but not too bad.
I’m good at chucking stuff out or giving it away and have given up keeping stuff that needs repairs but takes too much effort. Overall I see it as I have had use out of an item and that is good, now I have no more use. I got my value from it. :)
I’m good with cleaning tho.

Cat and general rambles
Antibiotics finishing soon… relieved. With the normal routine of mixing meds into wet food morning and night, adding 2x daily antibiotics could have been easy. Unfortunately taking the pain meds up to 3x daily for the uti spaced the doses out awkwardly and Melbcat stopped accepting medicated food, so I’ve been having to catch and wrestle her 5 times a day. I have an appointment tomorrow so will be too tired then, but I plan to declutter and sort the bathroom next. The shower stool was a good idea in theory but is actually more of a space hog and a trip hazard.
