“loss of signalling control” they’re calling it. That’s freaky. How do you just lose control of all your signals?

there was a comment on reddit the other day about how ww3 could break out and they allys would ride in on the stony point line to save is culminating in the first battle of Frankston. I pondered how ride of the valkyries would sound on a stolen 90’s WRX’s ruined sound system.

Been sick all this week. I should have taken more than one day off but there are meetings I want to get out of the way. My sense of taste hasn’t been the best so I think I’ll do a COVID test and if it comes back positive I’ll take the rest of the week off

I got an email from the regional manager in response to the complaint that I lodged last night. He wants to organise to meet with me tomorrow. Unfortunately I’m not available on Fridays so I’ll have to meet him next week.

I’m not super keen about meeting people in person or discussing things over the phone, to be honest. Sort of get that way when people do that and promise the world and then don’t follow through with it. Plus I feel like I am able to better articulate my points through email, but I seem to be in a very exclusive club with that.

I’ll probably have to meet him in person, but I’ll try and organise for someone else who’s on my side to come so I have another advocate and a witness in case he tries to get out of whatever promises he makes. But then again I did that when I had a meeting with the former acting regional manager and he still refused to uphold his end of the agreement, so maybe it’s all pointless

    • Thornburywitch@aussie.zone ⁚10⁩ ⁚months⁩ ago

The whole point about formal minutes of a meeting is JUST EXACTLY THIS. So the participants can’t wriggle out of undertakings given and recorded.

Baku, let me introduce you to the ancient and uncivilised practice of writing the minutes of a meeting BEFORE the meeting.

Start with the agenda of the meeting - a bullet point list of items to be discussed. These should be few in number. Ideally less than 6. You might like to send this bullet point list to the regional manager before the meeting so he knows what topics you want to discuss. For example :

      • return/repair/replacement/compensation of stolen/damaged goods
      • living arrangements going forward including repairs to locks etc.
      • what happens if someone else is moved in to your house without consulting you
      • personal safety
      • maybe another item that you consider necessary

These can be in any order - I usually put the most important one at the top but you might like to start with something that the manager can agree with as this can be a useful way to get co-operation on the other items.

Then, (not sending this bit to the manager) expand on each bullet point by adding 3 short paragraphs/sentences describing and/or discussing 1) What if you get everything you want when you want it AND who is responsible for seeing that you get it, 2) If you get something, but not all of what you want and who is responsible for each/what etc, and 3) You don’t get anything, and won’t get it in the future either.

Print this out (or save on your phone screen) and take to the meeting. As each bullet point is discussed, you strike out whichever of 1) 2) or 3) above that doesn’t apply - for each bullet point. At the end, you’ll have a list of what was discussed and what was agreed, and who is going to action each item agreed to.

At the end of the meeting you make the person read the document, and sign off on it if at all possible. If you like, give them a copy so that they have a record available too.

This is standard corporate practice, and will do a lot to concentrate their mind on doing things properly.

    • SpinMeAround@aussie.zone ⁚10⁩ ⁚months⁩ ago

I’m in that club as well. Let him know while it’s okay to meet face to face, you’d like to be able to send him an email prior to the meeting with your points laid out and ask that he sends you a follow up email after the meeting with what was discussed. Heck, write him one afterwards with what was discussed and get your advocate to read over it.

Seconding Spin. Written or recorded. Don’t trust verbal anything

    • TinyBreak@aussie.zone ⁚10⁩ ⁚months⁩ ago

I’d be replying with a polite “I’d prefer to have this conversation in writing thanks”.

      source
    • melbaboutown@aussie.zone ⁚10⁩ ⁚months⁩ ago

If I might add more unasked for advice - it’s a good idea to get anything said in writing so they can’t lie and bs later

My pikag was going from tullamarine to Essendon fields, but then ended up in Dandenong South. That always seems to happen. Every time I’ve seen a parcel go from melb airport to Essendon airport, it always goes via Dandenong South for
 Reasons

I also did an in transit redirection thingo to a random post office in the south east just for the fun of it, and tulla seems to be their only facility that applies the labels. So it will probably look something like Melbourne airport > dandy south > Essendon fields > Melbourne airport > held for redirection > Dandenong South > Essendon fields > cranbourne

    • bull@aussie.zone ⁚10⁩ ⁚months⁩ ago

meanwhile I have one which was shipped yesterday from somewhere over the east side, I forget where exactly, went through Tullamarine last night and should be arriving at my front door of my parents place out in Melton any moment now (status is onboard for delivery as of 30 minutes ago)

Haha having MC delivered feels like I’m doing something illegal. Even when I go to Prahan to pick it up at the pharmacy, I still feel so judged. Like the po-po are gonna rush in and arrest me as part of a sting. Which is dumb, I have TGA approval lol.

But MC being delivered to your door - we truly are living in the future

Well the cynical part of me says they do it to add extra time and make express post a better option. When I was sick I ordered some stuff from chemist warehouse (box hill) through the express post and it didn’t do this. It went from box hill to Melbourne airport and then from Melbourne airport to my house. Although it did get scanned a lot at the airport.

        The optimist in me says
Actually fuck it, there’s no optimism when it comes to auspost, only cynicism.

There’s an auspost sorting facility down in Dandenong South, so I imagine it’s just being sorted for distribution. Thought, anecdotally, there’s been parcels getting stuck in sorting facilities for weeks. I imagine their packages fell off the conveyor lol

I’ll have a chat with my aunt about it, she worked for auspost. (Apparently posties/couriers can be very emotional and resistant to change lol love her stories)

      • Baku@aussie.zone ⁚10⁩ ⁚months⁩ ago

Yeah, it’s just always struck me as a bit funny that Tullamarine to Essendon fields is like 5km, but they send it on a 122km detour to Dandenong South and back to Essendon fields.

Also on Monday (before it processed at tulla) I lodged the in transit redirection thingy to a random post office somewhere near Cranbourne (I don’t know the area very well), and eventually when it scans it gets held for a person to come and manually put a new address label on it. I’ve only seen this happen at tulla, never anywhere else, which is why I think once it gets to Essendon fields it’ll be sent back to tulla again. Also, I imagine Dandenong South would be the local sorting centre for the post office I chose, so after it’s redirected it’ll probably be bounced back over there. Terribly inefficient

Went out to a mutual friend’s birthday, and holy shit, she knows so many people. She met people from uni, from dating apps that she befriended, from high school, through friends, it was actually crazy. I spoke to so many people.

My friend’s partner told me that he keeps feeling like he needs to ask me if I’m okay? Not sure why, maybe I just give off that shy and quiet vibe? I wanna know how I can stop that.

Back from opshop with some finds. I’m listening to another Peter and Dudley LP and found an old book, Seven Years in New Guinea about some weird guy who was sent to PNG in the 50s-60s to do ethnographic studies for the Aust, gov. They didn’t eat him, as is evidenced by the fact he wrote this book.
