Miss Meow managed to knock her toy completely upside down whilst flying past doing zoomies. Apparently being upside down makes it very interesting and mysterious again.

Gibson does the exact same thing! She won’t acknowledge it’s existence until I turn it upside down and suddenly, new toy!
Eagle@aussie.zone 1 year ago
Ours is currently sideways. Has 2/3 cats intrigued.
Catfish@aussie.zone 1 year ago
Interesting idea. It has failed on the green version.

Curious to see if this is a “me” thing or not. so does anyone else when they make a new mate become like low key obsessed for a bit? or not obsessed but like, the social anxiety just dial up a couple of notches? just for like the first couple of days of the proper mateship. Then it always settles down. Like every time your phone buzzes your like “Oh, I hope its X person”. and when they take a bit to reply you go “Oh, did I message them too many times? did I say something weird?” when you know they’re probs just busy.
wscholermann@aussie.zone 1 year ago
Honestly it’s been so long since I made new friends I can’t really remember.
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 1 year ago
It’s completely normal
Gibsonisafluffybutt@aussie.zone 1 year ago
For sure man. I don’t really have family so friendships are really important to me. I defs get all in my head about it when I’m connecting with someone new
TinyBreak@aussie.zone 1 year ago
same boat hey, makes friendships so much more important.
Aradina@lemmy.ml 1 year ago
Yes. Right now, in fact
Nath@aussie.zone 1 year ago
I’m a slow boil. I’ll be interacting with someone for ages before I suddenly realise one day they’ve made the move from acquaintance to friend.
So, no. For me it’s more a sudden realisation after a bit. I’m reminded somewhat of the way my wife and I started dating here.
MeanElevator@aussie.zone 1 year ago
Not just a you thing. Made a couple of good mates from my gym and texting anxiety was through the roof. Turns out they felt the same.
TinyBreak@aussie.zone 1 year ago
making mates as an adult is HARD hey
Taleya@aussie.zone 1 year ago
Sad brain day today. Feeling very unloved and missing my ginger boy so much i want to bawl
Thornburywitch@aussie.zone 1 year ago
You go ahead and bawl. Unless this upsets the other cats of course.

The cat has been real picky lately. Turned his nose up at his usual wet food, so I’ve been trying other brands/flavours.
Seem to have settled on salmon paté, and will try the salmon in gravy later on.
Finicky, picky little Mickey
Catfish@aussie.zone 1 year ago
Oh Mickey you’re so picky 🎶 I don’t understand why you won’t eat this can
StudChud@aussie.zone 1 year ago
Oh Mickey you’re so picky
Can’t you understand
Fish keeps you hydrated
Though it comes in a can
melbaboutown@aussie.zone 1 year ago
Sometimes Melbcat isn’t too excited about her wet food but will eat it with a meal topper of some cracker crumbs, or a couple of treats sprinkled on top.
StudChud@aussie.zone 1 year ago
I have tried putting some treats on top, but he’s too smart and won’t have it lol.
He’s been gobbling up the paté, so I think that’s a winner for now.

I had my covid booster yesterday. Free from Chemist Warehouse (probably lots of other places too), got an easy online booking within 48 hours, was straight in and out when I got there and the pharmacist was lovely. No side effects except a sore arm.
Hospitalisations are rising again, get on it if you’re due for a jab (if it’s been more than 12 months).
StudChud@aussie.zone 1 year ago
Ah thank you for the reminder; I’ll have to book a jab in so I don’t get it again lol.
Duenan@aussie.zone 1 year ago
You might not need to get a jab because you recently caught covid.
It think it was recommended that you get a booster 6 months after you catch covid.
Mittens_meow@aussie.zone 1 year ago
I’m always envious of those who get vaccinations without being knocked out for weeks.
Catfish@aussie.zone 1 year ago
Last shot Boyo got he was deliriously singing little songs about dancing bbq prawns. Hilarious but actually concerning.
RustyRaven@aussie.zone 1 year ago
Until covid I’ve never had any reactions beyond a sore arm and a mild headache. The Covid vax was so awful I have decided I can’t put myself through that again.
TinyBreak@aussie.zone 1 year ago
just got the flu shot yesterday, totally worth it!

Survived the move. Of which more later.
Now on hold to Cennalink while they try to sort out what to do about the inheritance business.StudChud@aussie.zone 1 year ago

I have a ton of crows in my back yard having some sort of cawing competition. Is this a sign of something? Should I be worried? I’ve also had a black cat cross my path…
tone212_@aussie.zone 1 year ago
This has been happening at my place too sans the black cat sighting. They’re so loud as well. I don’t know what attracts them here.
RustyRaven@aussie.zone 1 year ago
The crows are definitely a rare event where I am, although the black cat is a regular occurrence. Usually she is trying to trip me up.
There have also been a lot of cockies around lately, probably related to the liquidambar seeds everywhere. Maybe it’s some sort of bird war?
Catfish@aussie.zone 1 year ago
I always feel the need to say Good Morning to Crows and Ravens. No particular superstition about it, it just feels right.
Thornburywitch@aussie.zone 1 year ago
I feel that way about maggies as well.
bacon@aussie.zone 1 year ago
the crows in my area have been more active the past couple of days too
Thornburywitch@aussie.zone 1 year ago
Did the black cat walk under the ladder and break a mirror on the way through? If not, then I think you’re all good.
RustyRaven@aussie.zone 1 year ago
She was being a bit suspicious in the vicinity of both my stepladder and a cracked mirror in my sewing room the other day, does that count?
melbaboutown@aussie.zone 1 year ago
Clearance Kmart sketch kit arrived yesterday. The first thing I cracked into was the sandpaper sharpening board. It’s really small and the wooden backing is chipboard but it’s a vast improvement on trying to smooth/taper pencil leads with a pack of emery boards. (Doable but awkward and very easy to start honing at the wrong angle. They were previously all that was on hand and it was a hassle to buy sandpaper alone.)

It sounds like this might be the thing to get you back into art
melbaboutown@aussie.zone 1 year ago
Hopefully. There’s been a few things discouraging me, not least being so constantly tired
imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone 1 year ago
There’s a stall at my local farmers market specialising in gluten free stuff and I have spent all day today thinking about the hot pie I am gonna have for breakfast tomorrow. It’s the little things
Mittens_meow@aussie.zone 1 year ago
Eat a pie for me!! It’s hard to find good gf stuff.

works had this thing blow up that I warned them would blow up last year. Really struggling to pretend to give a shit. Its got real “OH No! the consequences of our own actions!” kinda vibes.

ah IT. How I’ve missed you.
TinyBreak@aussie.zone 1 year ago
Right? I love how you tell someone “This is against MS best practices” and they go “Yeah, but I’m SURE its FIIIIIIINE” then have the nerve to be like “OMG you MUST fix this thing that MS warned us would happen!!!”
Gibsonisafluffybutt@aussie.zone 1 year ago
Blerghhhhhh
That is all.
wscholermann@aussie.zone 1 year ago
The amount of moisture I essentially mopped off my bedroom window this morning was revolting.
Gibsonisafluffybutt@aussie.zone 1 year ago
If anyone remembers an old tool song called Pushit and wants to hear a not bad version I did the other night, there’s the link.
I used to perform singing and playing guitar for a couple of years when I got sober, but stopped singing and focused on guitar.
Trying to get back into it now. Always open to criticism, constructive or otherwise!

Assignment done! 3 days and 2 hours overdue and it wasn’t my best work.
But the most important thing is that it’s done, I should get some kind of grade for it that is a bit higher than a zero, and I’ll be getting feedback on it.
Now onto studying for my exam.

This week the man was nominated as worker of the month. So he spun the big wheel. Literally. And won a $50 card to spend. Question is do I spend it on food, beer or fuel?
Duenan@aussie.zone 1 year ago
Work relationships are so complicated.
My co-worker/superior spoke badly to someone I’m friends with and unfortunately also at the same time spoke for me.
Had to go during my break to apologise for it all I suppose explain a few things and whatnot.
Incident involved a really rudely delivered snappy comment about being busy but it came off really badly I felt.
Anyway I don’t understand why she snapped like she did and I couldn’t explain it and often I see double standards about things.
Just need to get through the rest of the day no trying to maintain the peace.

Soooo when a road that people live on gets closed for roadworks, are they meant to like… tell the people that live on it? Because the first I’m hearing of them ripping up and repaving our road is when they parked a gigantic machine in front of our driveway at 7am that’s making an absolute shit ton of noise. The housemate has a car that nobody told him he wouldn’t be able to take out of the driveway either…
CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 1 year ago
I was wondering why I wake up in morning with a body battery of 10% and sometimes 90% (according to my watch) even though I get the same amount and quality of sleep.
So I’m doing experiments and found it mainly comes down to night snacking. The more snacks and/or closer to bedtime equals lower body battery in the morning. No snacks equals higher body battery in the morning.
Interesting. I will keep experimenting.
