It’s an open-world shooter.
Christ on a stick.
They’re hounding after that damned MMO shit like every other publisher is. Sony wants it, EA wants it, everyone wants it, and nobody can fucking make it work. Hell, even Bungie couldn’t pull it off with Marathon.
Why do they keep letting the market dictate what kind of games they should make? Just make a good fucking game. Stop consulting some market specialist who tells you, “Well, gamers are really interested in live-service engagement loops right now.” No shit, Brad. Gamers are also interested in games that are actually fun.
It’s like every publisher looks at the last five disasters and says, “Okay, but what if WE do it?”
Like it hasn’t worked for literally any of them. Why would it suddenly work for a fucking megacorp like Blizzard?
And it’s coming out in four fucking years.
Four years!
I don’t care what’s coming out in four years! I barely know what I’m doing next fucking Tuesday. You’re telling me I should get excited about a game that won’t exist until 2030?
I’m sure they’ll announce Diablo 5 in 2069 and tell us it’s going to revolutionize the genre with an innovative blockchain-enabled social extraction MMO where you spend 45 minutes farming a dungeon just to unlock the ability to farm another dungeon.
Just make a good goddamned game.
That’s it.
You don’t need to reinvent the fucking industry. You don’t need a market trend. You don’t need an engagement strategist. You don’t need a ten-year roadmap.
Make a good game.
Then make another one.
Jesus Christ.
Surprise. They announced Diablo 5.
Is that also an open world shooter? 🤔
Genuine question, what was the last time Blizzard released an actually good game, much less a new good game? Because by my reckoning it was over a decade ago with Overwatch, and that leaves me with exactly zero expectation that anything they could make would be with the time to play it.
For all their faults Blizzard has never made a bad cinematic.
Granted!
StarCraft II is one of my favorite games ever, but I have no faith in modern Blizzard to make a game that isn’t wrapped in trappings that would piss me off. Back in 2010, it was extremely annoying that the game required an internet connection and made us go through all sorts of wacky solutions just to have a LAN party. Nowadays, an online-only game is a non-starter for me. The story in SC2 jumped the shark after the Wings of Liberty campaign anyway.
they got bought out. diablo is pretty much a disaster
I played through Diablo 4, and honestly, the frustrating part is that there’s a genuinely good game buried underneath all the live-service bullshit.
The core gameplay works. The combat feels good, the classes are fun, the world is well designed, and there’s a solid Diablo game in there. If Blizzard had simply made it a traditional single-player Diablo game with optional online multiplayer, I think it could have been fucking phenomenal.
Instead, they decided they needed the live-service model.
And that created a massive problem: there was barely an endgame. Once you finished the campaign, the game basically became a loop of running the same types of activities over and over again, waiting for Blizzard to drip-feed additional content through seasons and updates. The live-service content wasn’t arriving quickly enough to justify the structure they’d built the entire game around.
That’s what pisses me off about modern game development. Publishers keep chasing the idea that every game needs to become an endlessly monetized platform. Sony wants it. EA wants it. Everyone wants the next Fortnite or Destiny, despite the fact that most of them can’t actually pull it off.
Diablo 4 didn’t need to be a live service.
It just needed to be a really fucking good Diablo game.
There was a damn good game in there. They just built the wrong fucking business model around it.
A game being announced for years in the future and all they have to show is a cinematic screams vaporware to me
remember diablo immortal, that was just a money grab.
Dude. Don’t you have a cell phone?!?
That just flopped because we didn’t have phones
Straight outta Todd Howard’s playbook.
This gets an exasperated “meh” from me
The cinematic was fire, but I wasn’t getting “open world shooter” from it. Rather, I thought this was “Helldivers 2 with Starcraft window dressing,” which would be awesome I won’t lie.
Same. Smells like a (fairly generic) co-op shooter to me. It might end up being good, but with the state of blizzard and microsoft these days I’m not really excited for this.
I’d love a Helldivers type game where I don’t have to worry about it frying my computer. A CTD or something I can stomach, but a full system freeze? In this economy?
i dont think fsp would be good with SC, should just say they have another sc3.
On stage at Blizzcon they said it’s an open world shooter
Ah well, I’m out. Love the cinematic, but man I would’ve loved another star craft rts that was refined or better.
I have no faith that current Blizzard would be able to beat StarCraft 2 anyways, they would just hurt the scene by dividing the playerbase more and SC3 would likely fizzle out sooner
So it’s the sequel like Starcraft Ghost?
Right? that’s the first thing that came to mind.
so its repurposing starcraft ghost.
Blizzard can go fuck them self. I’m a big Starcraft fan. And i’m not going to buy anything from them. And i suggest everyone else does the same.
Please god i wish they would just release more sc2 coop commamders and missions.
i found it odd they suddenly stopped it early in the pandemic, guess they got lazy.
Dont you guys have phones happened :/
Would have been nice to see some gameplay
I doubt they have any gameplay that could be shown yet
For me, the 2030 release date (+eventual delays) lines up with Microsoft’s recent push/wish for more games in their big franchises a couple of months ago, so this is probably still in some kind of pre-production.
Doesn’t the red armor means he’s a Firebat? The rifle going dry would explain that, those Overlords looked menacing as hell too
I was thinking that it was going to be a mobile game until the Xbox logo at the end of the
they made a diablo mobile game, but that was just money grabbing.
Big All Quiet on the Western Front vibes

If they were announcing Starcraft 3 (and it was going to be an RTS game) I can understand there being some excitement around it even four years in advance because there’s so few RTS games being made.
But a Starcraft shooter? Meh.
