Then how come every one of my deliveries is cold and an hour later than the app claims it will be?

Because you didn’t pick it up you lazy bastard.

I’m with you on this. Can’t believe how popular these useless services are. Sorry from free select cases, food delivery should not be the norm.

Except last time I tried to use Doordash and it took them two hours to finally assign a dasher to get my burrito only for them to message me that it was a food truck and that it was closed… It is a real brick and mortar restaurant that I’ve been to multiple times before. The only thing Doordash is good at is dynamic pricing and increasing the price on the menu based on what they think you will pay.

I bought an ebike online recently and it was 4 days late being delivered. Every day FedEx said it was on the truck for delivery, then every day, the delivery window shifted, before finally getting pushed back to the next day (after their call center was closed).
I finally went outside while the trick was stopped at my house and the guy asked what it was. When I told him it was an ebike, he told me they probably couldn’t fit it on his over packed truck.
I wound up just going to the depot and getting it myself.I say that to commiserate - it seems companies are squeezing their workers to (and beyond) the limit where they can successfully carry out their work.

Yep. The postman delivers parcels to a good hidden spot outside my mum’s door because he’s a good man, definitely not for the pay. He told me once he gets two cents per parcel delivered, on top of his base pay, which is MINIMUM WAGE.

Just like any service that was born out of a need and was recognised as a great source of money, its sole purpose now is to extract capital and swiftly put it in the pockets of the already obscenely wealthy.

I think its a satire on AI company people saying we’re close to a technological singularity, given the “we’re asking for a pause” is a phrase commonly associated with that
cobysev@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
They’re likely saying that data collection/analysis on customer’s eating habits is getting to the point that they can almost predict when you’ll be hungry, and the next step is to deliver food to you before you even order it.
If you order a burrito at 11:30 every day, their goal is to have a burrito delivered to your door at 11:30 every day, without you even ordering it.
Which honestly, is kind of terrifying. I don’t want a company knowing my habits so well that they predict what I want and then order it without my consent.
OwOarchist@pawb.social 2 weeks ago
And are they going to be charging you for it without your consent?
What happens when you’re taking a vacation for a week? You’ll come home to find 7 cold, decomposing burritos on your doorstep and $300 deducted from your bank account.
SolacefromSilence@fedia.io 2 weeks ago
I saw it a second time and think that they're forecasting your decision, so they deliver the burrito before you realize that you want one.

Back in the day you got pizza in 30 minutes or less. Now it’s over an hour, it’s cold, and not quite what you ordered.
Now get offa mah lawn!

If you deliver a burrito to my door and then tell me to pay for it, and I never asked, there’s going to be a fight.
I will drive my car through the front wall of DoorDash before I’ll pay them for a burrito I did not order.
Axolotl_cpp@feddit.it 2 weeks ago
The right approach is “whaaat?! You made me a gift?? Thank you!” takes the burrito and closes the door
bizarroland@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
I agree, I’m just saying if I see the bill on my credit card, there will be consequences, and if I can’t resolve it amicably, then I have a car that I’m willing to sacrifice for the cars.

I bet they’ll forget my double guacamole again!
nullspace@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
Burrito inflation has gotten out of hand. Double guac would be another $4 on top of a $14 burrito here.

What you have to understand is that these AI fucks are using AI to grade their product. I’m sure Claude gave this person some code that produced results that Claude said meant they could near predict people’s orders.

Eating burritos is the only thing that differentiates us from LLMs at this point
affenlehrer@feddit.org 2 weeks ago
Have you tried vibe coding an app for that (burrito eating)? Then you could add an MPC server and give the poor LLMs a way to eat burritos too.
