No work for me the next two days, that’s good. The cash would be nice but I need to start planning my break in August and I’m just insanely, madly tired for some reason. The weather forecast is in the absolute toilet - I think I’m going to just blob out tomorrow, have a nice sleep in and watch dumb videos, and get to organising stuff on Friday. Oh it’s soooo glorious being free from the old baggage…

Bugger. Had to call off heading down the beach. Absolute shitshow at southern x… line fault.
I’m very lucky in that I could just turn around and say fuck it not today… All those other poor souls though…
Will head down tm.

watching attack of the clones
Almost an hour of Anakin giving Padme creepy eyes and simping over her. Then she says, “I’ve been dying everyday since you came back in my life” Followed by I love you?! What?!
Also BFF is going kind of shit, because I’m matching with people but I’ve gotten no replies, even from the people that initiated. I think I’m just going to focus on myself but put myself out there. If there are people, cool. If not, then at least I tried.

An extra bag allowance has been bought for my trip back. I’m taking stuff home for the young Seagoons and was worried about excess fees and drama at airport.
worry has evaporated 😬-> 😊

We went to Hamilton Gardens yesterday, it was very interesting and beautiful too. I took some picks. There were fun gardens and historically themed gardens.
an Italian garden
Imagea Chinese scholar’s garden
a fantasy Tudor garden
also a different beach today where I found a few new to me types of shell
useless_modern_god@aussie.zone 8 hours ago
I like the Italian garden.
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 7 hours ago
Me too, it’s very peaceful.
PeelerSheila@aussie.zone 6 hours ago
Love the Chinese scholars garden, looks like a great place to read and meditate.

School holidays and nobody to look after the kids. Arranged to come into work at midday so I could cover the morning.
I’ve brought them into town, bought them movie tickets and then lunch before ditching them. They ate lunch and made their way to the cinema. When the movie finishes, they’ll make their own way home and get ready for swimming lessons. Mum will get home around 4 to take them to the pool. They’re basically out in the city and independent of adult supervision for four hours.
So I’m at work now and the kids are in their first movie session ever with no adult present. They’re making core memories right now. The first movie I saw with no grown up in the cinema with me was Flight of the Navigator - I remember it vividly.

In order to avoid being at home, after Elder’s appointment we took a tram to Docklands and wandered around. It’s a brisk day for it but we had fun at the Docklands park (the one on Harbour Esplanade with the trees on top of the grassy knoll and the wind spinny thing). In all, I’m pretty impressed with the public art and green spaces in this city. It leads me to ask this question of the DT: what is your favourite piece of public art in Melbourne?
useless_modern_god@aussie.zone 10 hours ago
I’m a fan of the Eastlink hotel. It is not pretty…It looks lonely out there and it doesn’t look quite right.
It’s courageous
and that pleases me…
How that got approved is astonishing.
anotherspringchicken@aussie.zone 9 hours ago
There’s some great art on the eastlink. I like bird with a chip and those revolving trees, and the ram’s skull
LowExperience2368@aussie.zone 9 hours ago
My mum would always say she’s going to drop me off there everytime we drove past it.
PeelerSheila@aussie.zone 9 hours ago
That is a weird piece and I like how it lights up at night.
SaneMartigan@aussie.zone 10 hours ago
As far as classics go, Deborah Halpern’s The Angel, my profile pic. I’m also fond of all the Mirka Mora stuff around town but I’m biased because I knew her a little.
anotherspringchicken@aussie.zone 9 hours ago
It’s a shame it’s not in the NGV moat anymore
Taleya@aussie.zone 8 hours ago
I love billy connelly’s reaction to the angel. He made a point of visiting it every time he was in Melbourne. “I have no idea what the fuck this thing is. It’s brilliant!”
PeelerSheila@aussie.zone 9 hours ago
As soon as I posed the question I thought of you actually 😆 I’m glad we have a bit of Mirka’s stuff around, her work was so iconic and her painted W class tram (remember those?) was one of my favourites.
Miniest saw a W class tram doing the city circle route today and asked, “What the hell is that thing‽” I was a little shocked tbh; I love them the same way I love old trains, ships and firetrucks.

PeelerSheila@aussie.zone 9 hours ago
Hey I love that triangle thing! I like how the base doesn’t stand out so at first glance it looks like some weirdly hovering portal. The cow is pretty funny, I too like art that makes me smile.
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 9 hours ago
there’s a special name to describe that kind of sculpture ( a frame outdoors ) but I can’t remember it.
Pilk@aussie.zone 11 hours ago
Without a doubt, this piece at the end of Drewery Ln. Definitely check it out some time after the sun sets (though I think the lights switch off a 10 or 11).
PeelerSheila@aussie.zone 9 hours ago
Wow I haven’t seen that one, that’s really beautiful!
underwatermagpies@aussie.zone 9 hours ago
There are so many great works, but the digital bin chickens outside NGV always make me smile.
PeelerSheila@aussie.zone 9 hours ago
I love those birds, I find them oddly mesmerising.
CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 10 hours ago
Like you said this morning. The cheese sticks.
SpinMeAround@aussie.zone 10 hours ago
I think my parents used to call it Kennet’s Erection.
PeelerSheila@aussie.zone 9 hours ago
Controversial and iconic. I’ve only ever seen them from passing trains during the day but at night it’s a much more atmospheric piece. There must be something about the engineering and design of it I don’t understand, because I vaguely worry it’ll fall one day.
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 9 hours ago
Growing up I remember the large train mural at Spencer Street , the reflecting pools and water wall at the NGV ( , Joan of Arc at the Museum and the Seahorse at the Port Philip Arcade.
Now I think I like many of the modernist bas reliefs scattered around the city better
PeelerSheila@aussie.zone 8 hours ago
I had to google ‘modernist bas reliefs Melbourne’ to understand what you mean, and I didn’t realise how many we actually have. I’ve noticed but not really given much attention to them; they were just sort of part of the artistic background of the city for me, always there. Thanks for drawing some attention to them again!
One thing we do beautifully in this city is water features. The NGV ones you mentioned I had the pleasure of introducing my kids to a few years back, it’s like a rite of passage.
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 8 hours ago
but the one I really really loved growing up and still love is Icarus at Tullamarine Airport
PeelerSheila@aussie.zone 6 hours ago
Ah, not being much of a traveller I had to look this one up too, and… wow! The balance and posing of it is pretty special.

Awww shit, aldi are partnering with doordash for delivery
SpinMeAround@aussie.zone 13 hours ago
That’s weird. I was really surprised when Costco did.
PeelerSheila@aussie.zone 13 hours ago
Given that everything on doordash is more expensive, I wonder how that’ll work in with ALDI being a cheaper supermarket 🤔

Heading down the bellarine today. Been almost 3 months so the weed sitch will be borked.
Over the rona restriction days when I finally got down there, ended up being 16 weeks of consecutive full green bins. Really hoping that isn’t going to happen again.
Ol’ girl snapped at me and ol’ boy last night about not having independence (she’s snapping at everything lol not very funny though) so I figure now’s a good time to give this thing a bit of a rest for a few days.
Feel a bit guilty going, but will feel a bit guilty staying so not going to win this one.
PeelerSheila@aussie.zone 13 hours ago
Sometimes you need to step back. Carers need respite, for sure.
StudChud@aussie.zone 14 hours ago
After chewing and biting off my nails for the last 30 years, and one failed attempt to stop, I think this time has stuck.
My nail beds still need time to heal, and there’s still damage visible from biting them so long, but it feels nice to be able to paint them now and not feel so self conscious about how they look.
before and after (now)

Jesus fucking Christ… I just had this poor nurse ring me from the hospital, she’s been running around the hospital for 20 minutes looking for my MIL. She checked with security and finally found out that the security guard just let her out and she got in a cab! This poor nurse was beside herself having to call and tell me they’d literally lost her, and wanted to know if she should call the police! I thought, if she’s got in a cab she should be just about here, so I go to the front window and here she is, doddling up the driveway! Apparently she got sick of waiting to see a Dr (they are very busy, when is a hospital not busy!) and just left. The security guard just let her walk out and asked if she wanted a cab and pointed to one and she got in it. Unbelievable! The poor nurse! At least I was able to tell her that she’d arrived home. Fucking hell. Mr P is furious and I’m pissed off with her too, the worry she caused that poor nurse. And complaining and moaning about public hospitals and the narrow bed. Okay she didn’t see a doctor when she thought she should’ve, but at least you’re being monitored and cared for in the meantime and if anything had happened she was in the right place.
Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 16 hours ago
Very naughty of MIL.
When my ol’ girl was in, literally anyone could walk in and out no questions asked. No guard. Felt odd just walking in. Was thinking at the time that surely a patient has just upped and left and no one would know.
Hope she’s feeling better.
TheWitchofThornbury@aussie.zone 20 hours ago
Hooly dooly what a night! Hope everything turns out OK for your MIL. Remember to look after yourself too.
MeanElevator@aussie.zone 18 hours ago
That is not an ideal way to start your day (or end your night for that matter). Hope you get some physical and mental rest today.
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 19 hours ago
hugs, that was very worrying for everyone, is MIL even aware ?
and grr at the guard who let out an old lady who was dressed for bed, it would seem to me that she was exactly the kind of patient he should be alert about
MeanElevator@aussie.zone 16 hours ago
Sickie chucked yesterday, working today to help out a colleague.
Gonna be playing the sympathy card for week after this.

PeelerSheila@aussie.zone 1 day ago
Well that was eventful! Got home yesterday and got dinner on the go, then got a call to go in to my MIL and she was evidently having some kind of medical episode, potentially that weird pain women get when they’re having heart trouble. The Ambos thought it was possibly an infection, but it needed further investigation. I knew she was anxious about going to hospital so I went in with her, stayed with her a few hours until they got her hooked up to monitoring equipment and settled. Then when I finally left there were no cabs out front, so I jumped on a tram to Flinders Street station and got a cab home from there. The cab was like a brand new car, really smooth and quiet, and we went on CityLink (which I never use, so I got to see the cheese stick and the zipper thing and that tunnel thing that’s blue at night, which was quite pretty really). Then I had my cold curry (Beef massaman… I was too lazy to heat it up but it was still tasty) and hung out the washing which I almost forgot lol. I’m glad I’ve taken tomorrow and Thursday off, my intention was to spend time with the kids but it’ll be useful for different reasons now.
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 19 hours ago
