Had this mixed in with the background music playlist at my wedding reception, and I got to witness an older gentleman sitting near the speaker look increasingly confused.

I mean, have you tried making a croissant?
That shit takes effort.

I had an employee who made them from scratch and they were amazing. Then he showed me how and I’ve never eaten another croissant since. So much butter.

What, is the joke that Americans can’t cook?
JoMiran@lemmy.ml 1 day ago
That Pillsbury renamed croissant to crescent roll for the American market. Good thing too because calling those things croissant might be considered libel.

Why is this the only French word brits insist on pronouncing the French way?
JasonDJ@lemmy.zip 22 hours ago
This show was all that.

Tried to order a croissant at a gas station in Oregon once — I lived there, but my French accent turns croissant into a whole performance.
The Mexican woman behind the counter couldn’t see what I meant (glass case + clutter) or understand, we both laughed a lot, and I ended up with the croissant and a breakfast burrito.
Could’ve been worse.

It’s best to just say “cross ant” because then people know you’re saying it wrong on purpose and you don’t have to feel bad about pronouncing it wrong

Being a native french speaker, I feel it’s actually closer to the real pronunciation than the “kwah” alternative. I would add don’t pronounce the T and you’re pretty much there.

If I had to write it phonetically for english speakers, I’d write CROSS ON
