My friend consider: PipePipe.
NewPipe was failing me today, so I reverted back to the YouTube app. After the first ad (20 seconds), the app gave me a permanent blur.

Can I port my subscription list from newpipe to pipeline?
Eeyore_Syndrome@sh.itjust.works 2 months ago
And settings as well. Yes.
refurbishedrefurbisher@lemmy.sdf.org 2 months ago
Yes. PipePipe is a fork of NewPipe.

Pipepipe is great! Works really good so far.

Practical Engineering is also on Nebula (among other some high quality YouTube channels), and tou can get an ad-free yearly sub for around $30. Not giving my views or af-money to Google.
ElPussyKangaroo@lemmy.world 2 months ago
The fact that you knew the channel based on the subtitles is incredible 😂
TheFriendlyDickhead@lemm.ee 2 months ago
To be fair the topic is very specific. There are not that many big channels that talk about engeneering, esspecially bridge engeneering. At least not that I know of.

How many people talk about cable stray bridges on YouTube
recklessengagement@lemmy.world 2 months ago
Plus the money actually goes directly to the creators you watch.

If you’re considering Nebula, I’d, personally, go for the lifetime subscription. It’s the better deal after 5 years.
SkaveRat@discuss.tchncs.de 2 months ago
10 years in my case. I’m grandfathered into a 30$ sub
Anivia@feddit.org 2 months ago
Better deal after 5 years, if they still exist and honor the lifetime subscription by the time 5 years have passed

if you want an app, revanced is good. it has the same UI of the normal YouTube app (minus whatever you don’t want, like ads or shorts or news etc, it’s one of the most customizable ones I’ve seen) and besides adblocking has sponsorblock and return dislike and stuff built in (optional ofc) you can still use new pipe for downloads when you press the in-app download button and I like that feature a lot.
my other suggestion is Firefox + ublock origin. can never go wrong with the classics haha

If on ios, Unwatched is my holy grail

Here here. Just do a quick search on how to use it. Basically, download a YouTube APK on a browser and patch it in the app. That’s it.

Grayjay still works fine.

Needs android TV app
penquin@lemm.ee 2 months ago
Try Revanced manager. Or Tubular. Or FreeTube. Or Grayjay… There are so many. Even for android tv. There is YouTube next
chicken@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 months ago
FreeTube is currently broken, maybe for the same reason OP is having problems, YouTube changed something on their end. Although supposedly the fix is coming through shortly.
penquin@lemm.ee 2 months ago
That’s correct, that’s why it wasn’t the only one I mentioned. Grayjay is so damn reliable. Louis Rossmann is crazy and got grayjay on the freaking Google play store. Lmao

Firefox plus unlock works on mobile
marius@feddit.org 2 months ago
You could also simply use firefox
bestboyfriendintheworld@sh.itjust.works 2 months ago
On iOS, I use the website 9! Safari with 1blocker to block the ads. Works well.
possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 2 months ago
I think YouTube was having issues. Try using NewPIpe again.
abbadon420@lemm.ee 2 months ago
It’s not working yet, but Firefox with ad block is
possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 2 months ago
That’s odd since it works for me
Are you using the Newpipe F-droid repo?
MidsizedSedan@lemmy.world 2 months ago
I have NewPipe, PipePipe, Tubular (newpipe + sponsorblock) and Grayjay all installed. If one fails, i check the others, and if they all fail, i check /c/newpipe

Have you tried changing your DNS to one of these:
- 194.242.2.4#base.dns.mullvad.net
- 76.76.2.2#https://freedns.controld.com/p2
ohellidk@sh.itjust.works 2 months ago
I had to look around for it, but newpipe po-token version is still working for me. It uses some different method of fetching the video, but with the same interface.
rumba@lemmy.zip 2 months ago
I keep a copy of one of each of the methods on my phone. Grayjay, new pipe Brave, Firefox+UB and a revanced copy of YouTube.

Maybe blur is just another benefit of cable-stayed bridges
abbadon420@lemm.ee 2 months ago
No, cable stayed bridges would never betray me like that.
