that’s a level of wealthy 99% of us cant fathom. People like that detach from society more and more, their reality is different than ours. Shame…

Thats crazy, cant even imagine what their lives look like. We out here budgeting our monthly incomes and barely stay afloat, while others nonchalantly take a private jet when public transport would work just fine.
Onomatopoeia@lemmy.cafe 6 days ago
Not really. Flights like that can be pretty reasonable, since they’re commuter flights.
And depending on the time, 4 hours in a bus (on the east coast, the North East no less, where congestion is brutal) could consume much of the time available.
I wouldn’t fly for this, but it’s understandable, especially if getting to the airport is trivial. It really depends on where said friend lives and time to the airport etc.
Unless you’ve driven through that area, you really have no idea what it’s like. I’ve done it many times for work, and you can’t pay me to get on those roads today, let alone in a bus. It’s like LA or the Bay Area in California, so congested that rush “hour” is all day.
superkret@feddit.org 6 days ago
He flew in his private jet!
MothmanDelorian@lemmy.world 6 days ago
I have taken the bus between the two many times. It’s 4.5-5 hours. The 3.5 hours you see is by car making no stops.
wizardbeard@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 days ago
This is specifically not a commuter flight. OP mentions “the jet” as in this guy has or charters a private jet.
AndyMFK@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 days ago
Why spend several hours with friends when you could spend an hour alone on a jet
orgrinrt@lemmy.world 6 days ago
Yeah, even a car wouldn’t have been the most horrible choice in comparison. And those are fun, while not as fun as a train where you can all partake instead of one having to drive. Unless it’s just the two of you, then a car would be a waste and also not very fun since the other’s focused on driving.
CaptainBasculin@lemmy.bascul.in 6 days ago
In my experience no plane could compete with the comfort of a table seat in a train with friends.
msage@programming.dev 6 days ago
Private jet would outcompete anything, sadly
I_Has_A_Hat@lemmy.world 6 days ago
Found the non-American.
answersplease77@lemmy.world 6 days ago
you know if you have a jet, the “flight attendents” blow you and massage you all flight long. I’m not sure what your friends can do under the train table though so you might be right
HowAbt2morrow@futurology.today 6 days ago
A train handy is an underrated pleasure. Those occasional sways on the turns and random shakes and shimmies are to die for.
neidu3@sh.itjust.works 6 days ago
Half the fun of trips like that is the trip itself. See an interesting building along the way? Go check it out. Have an available seat? Pick up a hitchhiker.
teft@lemmy.world 6 days ago
Journey before destination.

Have an available seat? Pick up a hitchhiker.
If the hitchhiker looks sketchy, the rule is always pick them up.
neidu3@sh.itjust.works 6 days ago
In my cars with my friends, the hitchhikers are usually among the least sketchy looking.

I’ve never met someone that wealthy, but wealth is way more relative than lower, middle and higher classes.
The wealthier people I’ve met kind of like to brag their money. I’ve always guessed that is the way the behave among themselves. It’s never a direct competition about their wealth, is always a package of actions and prepositions from where anyone should or could conclude they are wealthy. Kind of passive-aggressive.
Maybe your friend is trying to do their wealthy people thing with you, guys, because that’s what he knows to do. Maybe you have to have a bit of patience with this friend. I get it, I’m poor, so they make so little sense to me. I just hope you can work it out, and remember, maybe that’s all they know, that’s why university is so important to those privileged enough to go.
Buffalox@lemmy.world 6 days ago
That’s despicable. I’d be absolutely disgusted by that behavior, and tell him in no uncertain terms.
Syd@lemm.ee 6 days ago
Tell him he smells too!
foggy@lemmy.world 6 days ago
Are you upset that they drove? Flew? Why is either bad here?
I don’t understand what you’re upset about.
atrielienz@lemmy.world 6 days ago
It looks like the wealthy friend flew instead of driving down or taking the bus down with their friends. They’re upset because it’s just more useless pollution and a loss of time that the friend group could have spent together having a good experience.
RaccoonBall@lemm.ee 6 days ago
Private jet instead of public transit
hungryphrog@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 days ago
I thought they would have went there with their own car, but nope, even worse.
Can’t stand to travel with the poors I guess.

Remove them of their wealth and your friendship
MotorCade93@sh.itjust.works 6 days ago
You should kill your friend with a hammer in the woods on your weekend trip.
MothmanDelorian@lemmy.world 6 days ago
You should seek help. It’s not ok to suggest people should murder their friends. They should simply not be their friend if this bothers them.
MotorCade93@sh.itjust.works 6 days ago
In fact, he’s morally obligated to murder his friend with a hammer in the woods.
HowAbt2morrow@futurology.today 6 days ago
So what you’re saying is that you can’t murder your friends so stop being friends? I like what you did there.
ThrowawayPermanente@sh.itjust.works 6 days ago
Actually murder is a good thing if the victim is unpopular
MotorCade93@sh.itjust.works 6 days ago
You should suck my fucking balls.
wizardbeard@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 days ago
On top of this, it sounds like he didn’t offer seats on the private jet to any of you guys either? That’s beyond simply evilly out of touch and into the realm of “are we actually friends if you’re willfully taking separate transportation to avoid spending time with the rest of us?”
I could at least comprehend if he wanted to have 4 extra hours with you all at the destination, but if he’s just going to spend the time savings alone that is a massive dick move on top of the already massive dick move.
merrysage@lemmy.world 6 days ago
[deleted]PiJiNWiNg@sh.itjust.works 6 days ago
Lolwut?
So… you accept a free, private jet ride, step off the plane, then bitch about your friend? The self righteous tone of your post was already giving me the “ick”, but to find out you took the ride anyway just shows you’re more interested in looking like someone who gives a shit, then someone who actually does…
unexposedhazard@discuss.tchncs.de 6 days ago
Have you considered that actually refusing to fly with him might have had an effect? Of course he will fly if it allows him to show off to his friends like that. If you want someone to understand that their behavior sucks then you actually have to pull through. Now he thinks “hey looks like when given the choice they do actually prefer flying so i was right from the start”.
JuxtaposedJaguar@lemmy.ml 6 days ago
Nevermind, that’s awesome. Is he looking for additional friends?
possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 6 days ago
I need better freinds
JuxtaposedJaguar@lemmy.ml 6 days ago
IANACS but I think the levels of pollution are actually similar.
user134450@feddit.org 6 days ago
If you replace a short haul flight with a ride on a train you could easily cut carbon emissions by 75% Source
JuxtaposedJaguar@lemmy.ml 6 days ago
Interesting! Thanks for the source.
It looks like short haul flights actually produce 12% less emissions than driving.

I did the Philadelphia to Boston trip by plane once (I live in Central New Jersey), only because I had a business meeting at 12 PM. The Acela doesn’t stop in Trenton, so while I preferred the train waking up at 5am didn’t appeal to me. If I go again I’ll prioritize the train. City pairs in US that should have high speed rail: youtu.be/wE5G1kTndI4

Don’t be a jerk
jordanlund@lemmy.world 6 days ago
Thought for a minute you meant they drove instead of taking the bus or train and I’m like “Yeah, about the same to Seattle I don’t… OH. OH!”
By the time you get to the airport early, get through the lines, get through security theater, all the time you save is lost.

Wait, he took a PRIVATE jet instead?
Wow, he really seem to enjoy climate change.
