Today’s weather forecast (to come later, I wanna watch the fireworks not check the BoM)
I put some bird seed out in the backyard the other day, thinking the cat would enjoy watching more birdies through the window.
We haven’t had many more birds, but that could be because the mice are eating it. Ewww. They seem to be living under the deck.
I guess I’ll venture to Bunnings tomorrow and get some Ratsak or whatever. I know they’re everywhere but I’d just as soon they don’t migrate into the house.
I did the same for my cat. She would sit there all day and randomly attack the security door lol
And virgin have screwed us again! Oversold. Why the f are they allowed to do this? Tiny now flies in at 6:30pm so it’s gonna be a clusterfuck tonight.

Tried to make cupcakes. Split the cupcake mixture everywhere. Lost the lid for the milk and while trying to find it spilt about 500ml all over the bench and floor. Burnt my cupcakes. Burnt my wrist trying to get the cupcake tray out of the oven.
Sometimes it’s just not meant to be. It doesn’t matter. Write it off and try again another day. Cupcakes should not cause stress.
Unfortunately they’re already made now. I can hardly write them off. And the stress horse has already bolted
Eh, it happens. Been cooking for a long time and sometimes the mishaps all stack together and the whole process is kerfuffle from start to end. Hope the Kerfuffle cupcakes tastes good anyway.
I caved and bought the mini dishwasher because it seems like staying on top of the dishes is really hard for me.
Hopefully the generic Coles dishwasher powder works. I need to tighten up on money again

I feel bad about it because it seems like such a luxury item. But I want to keep my kitchen hygienic
I was one of those people who used to let the dishes pile up and switched to a dishwasher. Problem was then I found that I would just treat the dishwasher a cupboard and pile up dirty plates on the side until the dishwasher was mostly empty and then reload it when i needed clean things. Rinse, repeat.
What fixed it for me and I don’t know if you’ve tried is: when cooking, constantly clean. It means that by the end you only have your plate / cutlery to go (plus maybe 1 pan) which should be done immediately after finishing eating. It makes it a ton easier as you’re already busy cooking anyways so might as well be cleaning too.
Yeah I’ve used paper plates but expensive and wasteful. I don’t really cook, this is more to keep up on pet bowls and spoons/saucers/mugs
generic dish powder works fine
just wash the filter of your machine every week and it will work great 🙂
I love the way supermarkets sell a whole bunch of “salad kits” and vegetable mixes that are primarily shredded cabbage and carrot with a different label. I just used a “stir fry vegetable mix” to make coleslaw. I’ve had pretty much the same mix of vegies labeled as “asian salad” (with a soy/sesame based dressing), “mexican salad” (with a spicy chilli dressing) or just a “healthy salad” (with a yoghurt dressing and some seeds).

Ended up staying up later than anticipated playing some games with overseas mates. Timezonea usually make that quite difficult unless I stay up late, which I try to do less these days than I used to. But it was nice
Gonna gwt into bed now though. At least I won’t be thenonly perosn sleeping in until the middle of the day today

Never been to the airport viewing area before. This is wild! It’s like a party or something.
I love the airport so much. The airport used to be a fun day out in summer holidays as a kid, just me and some mates. We’d catch a bus there and stay the whole day.
Watch all the airplanes from the old viewing deck. Explore the warrens of office hallways, look at the shops. Buy snacks. You could visit gate areas. Lounge in the futuristic waiting areas. Visit the aerospace museum ( which was free )

Om gonna try my hand at making chicken biryani tonight. I found a recipe on that tin eats site. A few substitutions will be in order though. I don’t have plain yogurt or chicken thighs. ChatGPT suggested using coconut milk with a dash of lemon juice slightly evaporated in place of plain yogurt, so I’m gonna try that. I have drumsticks, but no chicken thighs. But I also have lots of chicken breast. The recipe has a note about substituting thighs for breast. Not recommended apparently, but it does have an alternative recommendation to try to keep them juicyish
Another problem I’ll probably run into, is that I think everything is meant to be mixed into one enormous pot and cooked together or simmered for a while. In my infinite wisdom, I only bought one pot. I do have a giant wok I can probably use, but it’s got a very thin base so I’ll need to be careful about the heat
Curious, what is it about butter you don’t like?
It’s not entirely don’t like. Sometimes I do use butter for baking. But I avoid putting butter or margarine on anything I don’t have to. Don’t know why, I just don’t like it
I only really buy margarine because it’s cheaper, I can’t notice a taste or consistency difference in almost everything I cook or bake, so certainly not worth the extra money most of the time
I’ve been to pilates and done a load of washing. The rest of the day will be gentle pottering, or possibly flat-out lazing.

I’m pleased to report that TheStench™️ is quite drastically improved. Those little magic odour bags genuinely work a treat. The smell is still strong, but has now faded enough I feel comfortable getting dressed in the bathroom again
I also got all the stuff off the floor, and Jason has now done a whole House map and vacc. Downside: now everything is on the couch and bench (again). Hoping that by the end of next week I’ll have found the energy and motivation to properly unpack and either find a place for everything, or donate what I can’t

what has been really good today is that the young Seagoons have said this house is very dusty, very. So it’s not me being lax, it really is dusty. They think it’s the carpet, I think it’s not just carpet but dust from the front courtyard, the windows that don’t close properly, the clothes drier adds some dust, the cats, and car and bus exhaust all combining to make this extra dusty.
Those lasers were cool.

Is the Balnea bar soap ok for most people? (Like the green tea and milk & honey scents.) I found their pure soap a bit harsh but that might just be me. I use the unscented sorbolene bars but people might like scent.
What about the ‘clean linen’ scent of another cheap brand or the same sort of thing from Aldi?
I don’t have heaps of money myself so I’m thinking of buying cheap multipacks and re-wrapping the individual bars in leftover wrapping paper to help share them out at the community pantry.
But if you were struggling to afford basics would you find that insulting (cheap quality) or gross (handled/not in original packaging) or would the soap be too harsh for you and your kids?
Cooking fail. Wanted to make a rice bowl with a miso mayo. Mixed some miso with some kewpie, garlic and ginger. All I taste is salt.
So how does everyone use their dish washer? ( assuming they have one?)
I run mine in the afternoon and after dinner whether it’s full or not, iow, I do it on a time basis. I like to organise by time.
Miss Seagoon waits until there are enough dishes. I think she organises by task.

Oh man it happens so easily. Especially when you consider the storage of items before we get a chance to buy them. Like if you’ve ever grown lettuce, picked some and put it into the fridge, it surprises you with how long it lasts! It’s truly eye-opening. Then you buy shop lettuce and it lasts an abysmal short amount of time and you think, hang on…

Very true. Most of this stuff has come from the food waste market, so it is already on the precipice. With Christmas and a finger injury causing delays a bit of stuff just didn’t make it.
On the positive side, I’ve now got some pumpkin and zucchini roasting (to be frozen for future grilled sandwiches), I have enough for meals for the next few days to get me through until the next market, and I’m about to get onto cutting up some peaches and apricots for the freezer and to go into some overnight oats. That should use up pretty much everything and leave me with a clean slate.

I forgot about a tub of yogurt I had and it wasn’t looking so good. Be tossing that tomorrow and a few other things sitting around.
Hopefully the couple of oranges I have haven’t disintegrated yet.
