Had to attend an emergency meeting with the CTO of a client and explain why we tucked up without any forewarning.
Good times lol
Yikes! As in your side of the fence didnât give you any heads up? Iâd be demanding an answer as to why thatâs appropriate from your boss.
Bingo. And man, that guy was really fucking pissed off.
Thereâs no point getting accountability. Some people here have a halo and can do no wrong.
Fingers crossed for the new role.
Meeting over! 2.5 hours later, Iâm so exhausted. There was a few times I maybe wasnât as clear as I could have been when I was put on the spot, and also being hyper concentrated for that long is pretty tough. But overall I think I presented and communicated well. Client seemed happy too so thatâs what counts.
I think I deserve a takeaway pizza tonight and a night off any cooking.
Wait is it pizza night on the DT? Because Iâm down to celebrate alongside you.
Literally just had left over pizza lol - I think it is pizza night!! đ¤¤
2.5 hours is a long time to be âonâ.
have pizza, beer, stare at the wall and pat the cat
Well done!! Treat yourself!!
Yeah. Thatâs a super long meeting.
You definitely deserve something after a meeting of that magnitude.
Obviously! What a stud
Big work meeting this afternoon. I mean BIG. Iâm as prepared as I can be and a bit more prep this morning. I was feeling super nervous about it yesterday. Calmer on waking up this morning the nerves are coming back. Deep breaths help - I will be fine, it will go fine.
đ¤
itâll be what itâll be. Just put your best foot forward.
đ¤đ
Good luck!
I wanted to set up a mail redirection in case I forget to change my address for anything over, but wouldnât you know it - not allowed to do that while youâre under. For âlegal reasonsâ, they say
That actually made me really upset when I found out. Partially because by the time they bothered to tell me, I was already 3 quarters through the application and already sent in my ID, but also because itâs just such a stupid thing to age-gate, and seems like it was thought up by the mind of somebody whoâs always lived a stereotypical upper class lifestyle I know itâs inconsequential, but it really reeks of the sort of restriction some rich private schooled arsehole would impose. The sort that grew up in a stock standard, white picket fence, 2 parent households - whoâs only struggles as a child were figuring out which one of their thousand dollar outfits to wear to their 80k a year private school, and one who never had to move around At a surface glance, sure it seems logical to assume that every child will always move in sync with at least 1 of their parents, and can just be listed as a dependent on their parents redirection application. But in my situation, that just canât happen. And it really isnât just my situation that would necessitate redirecting your mail as a minor. Although less common than previous decades, some people do still get a job at 15/16 then move out. Some people move away for school or employment prospects. Some to escape violent home situations. Not everybody who moves out as a minor necessarily ends up in the child protection system But the 1% tasked with running these shit shows donât think of that. They just assume that the luxuries they got to grow up with and took for granted are universal. They are very much not. Iâm sure somebody will point out that parents want to know what mail and parcels their kids receive, and thatâs fine, Iâm not saying every minor should automatically have a right to redirect or hold their mail. But there are so many supporting documents I could provide them - I have court orders, tenancy agreements, a lease, rent trails, I could even have the person acting on behalf of my guardian (in this case, my case manager) go in with me and backup what Iâm saying. We could even go get a stat Dec written up But even that isnât an option. Thereâs no exemptions. No negotiations. Itâs go be listed on a parents application, or go fuck yourself. Personal circumstances are irrelevant, and so is supporting evidence. I know I live in an edge case - every fucking company and governmental agency wants to make damn sure I know that. But it gets exhausting having to deal with this BS day in and day out. Actually, one of my earliest memories of dealing with the bureaucratic nightmare that has been my life was not long after I entered care, I dared to want a library card. They refused my application because I was a minor and couldnât get a signatory at the time. Another one of my earliest memories is when I had knee troubles from an incident that occurred many years ago and went to a physio. 9 month waitlist. Finally get in. She needs a piece of paper signed giving her consent to provide medical care, or whatever the piece of paper wouldâve said. The worker wouldnât/couldnât do it. I just had to go home. Then COVID hit, and after another 9 month waitlist, the physio was just telling me what to do over the phone Iâm actually going to make a complaint about this to auspost, and when they inevitably come back in 2 business months to inform me theyâve investigated themselves and found their policies to be justified, Iâm going to go to the postal industry ombudsman. And then Iâm going to write angry letters to the ministers responsible for AP, and might even write another one to my federal MP. It has genuinely gotten me that riled up Again, I know itâs first world problems, and at that, probably the most minor problem in DT history. But it is making me really irrationally angry and I want to do something about it
Sorry for the rant, if anybody read it. With all the talk about these social media bans, on top of the issues with buying knives, and now trying to get a fricking mail redirection Iâm really feeling like I keep slipping through the gaps and am getting left behind by half brained ideas thought up by privileged people
Itâs not a small issue, youâve been cheated of both the supports you should have had but also of the right to do necessary things for yourself.
I guess. It just feels weird and kinda self absorbed that Iâm so angry about not being able to redirect my mail, while half the DT is just struggling to get by
depending on your spoons, if youâre a big enough pain in their arse and keep pestering them about it, they can and fucking will make exceptions.
I somewhat get it. I moved out as a minor and had some of this nonsense. Difference was I had a lawyer for a father who could hand over a business card and mostly make the shit go away. Sorry.
so many hugs
âĽď¸
As a child that had met not quite all but most ACE criteria, I understand perfectly well your point of view. While the issue at hand seems small, all the problems that lead to this are not.
Unfortunately the government reluctantly and sparingly offers social assistance mainly to stop a riots in the street from the disaffected, but mostly donât GAF.
The only hope I can give you is that you are still young and youâve got time to turn things around.
âŚyouâve got time to turn things around.
This feels uncomfortably close to a âpull yourself up by your bootstrapsâ mentality⌠đ
Howzat!
Gridiron ball. Itâs brilliant. I could never really throw a proper size one, but this flies like rocket!
Gorgeous evening light. Today was a corker of a day.
I laugh everytime I see a post on AustralianSpiders, where OP posts a picture of a black spider with a red stripe and asks âiS tHiS a ReDbAcK???â
The clue is in the name, my guy đđđ
And yes, it was, and sheâs gravid - enjoy OP! đđ
I like the ones where OP will show a bit of leg skin with a small welt and ask What bit me?
Um definitely something small and bitey đ¤ˇââď¸
Then you get the replies such as: Go and see a GP to Get to the Emergency Room immediately because my best friends dentistâs next door neighbour had that same bite and their leg fell off. This is no joke.
And it could be that nothing bit then! They could have just grazed their leg slightly and it raised a welt đ
Why ask Reddit? Theyâre not psychic time travelling detectives looking to solve the mystery of your minor injury đ
chances are you have been bitten by a redback and dismissed it. Generally itâs just swelling and feeling seedy af
Fuck yeah!
Nice one. You are a person of high culture.
oooh thank you for reminding me!
while you slept the south korea did a failed coup
Sleepy coups are the best kind of coups.
yeah that was not news i was expecting to wake up to.
Didnât even ask his own party!
Yeah lasted like 2 hours?
And blamed the north for it
was it a real failed coup? Cos I remember Erdogan did a fake failed coup to make a pretense to bring in authoritarian laws and to purge the public service
yup he is done his own party doesnât support him, the military left too
While I struggled to sleep*
Wha
Context pls
All I can see is something about martial law. Is that what you mean?
The president accused the opposition of being north Korean agents (Theyâre not) and declared martial law. Police tried to prevent MPs from entering parliament to vote to end martial law but failed and it voted 190-0 in favour of ending it. The military initially sided with the president and said theyâd wait for him and ignore parliament, but then changed their mind and stood down.
People are calling for the president to resign. His party isnt even om his side. It was a failed coup attempt
yeah and itâs already over
If nobodyâll be up at midnight, or particularly cares who does what, Iâll post tonightâs at midnight. Iâll still be up
About 6kg of cherries have now been picked. Probably that much again left on the tree if I was feeling enthusiastic enough to pick them.
Now I need to work out what to do with them - they are cooking cherries (morello), not sweet eating cherries. Iâll probably just pit & freeze them for now and do some baking later.
Try drying them. Pit a trayful and put them on a lined baking tray in a very low oven - 30-50 deg - basically the defrost function if your oven has one - with the fan on. Stir them about every hour or so until they dry to snapping point. Or stop at the shrivelled but still bendy stage and freeze them in a vacuum bag. Iâve heard of people drying them in a microwave but Iâve never done that and donât know how. Dried cherries are a wonderful snack and really add something to cakes, mince pies etc. Iâve put them in chook stuffing too. Use them anywhere that calls for sultanas or currants or raisins.
Iâve dried cherries before and didnât really use them. I might do a few to go in the next fruit cake I make - I have a dehydrator, which makes it much easier than the oven method. Although it is currently filled with chicken scraps destined for dog food, I really need to get onto packing that away too.
Iâm just fucking exhausted. Thatâs all. I go to bed exhausted, wake up too early, exhausted.
Made it to Kmart today and filled up a trolley with various things
Set for most of it now. Still need a vacuum and (indoor) bins though
It was a fucked fucking experience. Lines were long as, but in their infinite wisdom, they only put 1 poor woman on the checkouts
She was standing over us the whole time, apparently if you have too much, you canât be trusted to scan your own things, and they either need to scan half of it for you, or stand over you watching you scan shit. We were trying to go methodically so we could organize a trolley and wouldnât end dup setting a frying pan on the top of an upside down coffee cup. She was not happy about that and said (verbatim) âgimme gimme gimme now! weâre going to be here all day! Gimme!â And then snatched the scanning thing out of my hand and started going turbo mode
I donât really blame her, she was seemingly expected to supervise a dozen self serves, and man the 1 assisted register while also helping old people navigate the self serve during probably the busiest time of year. But geez. A dog shit experience as a customer. And ffs snatching the scanner and rushing us didnât actually do shit, it just meant she had to awkwardly stand there while we started repacking the trolley
Also feel like I should mention this was Kmart. I didnât accidentally walk into Aldi. They donât have packing benches - the alternative wouldâve been throwing everything in the trolley, probably breaking and losing shit, then tipping it all out after paying to repack things sensibly
Nooooooo
Kmart took almost a week processing my damn order, and now theyâve run out of abba vinyls
I ordered it at 8:08am on Thursday morning, 8 minutes after their black Friday bs (which the vinyl was a part of) opened up. They evidently didnât put one aside quickly enough, so they just cancelled my order
I just want abba vinyl đđđ
Today is the day Iâm gonna have a zillion coffees and get shit done cos itâs gonna be hot the next 3 days. Just have to get off the couch now.
My manager said Iâm good to work from home this week until my ankle heals up. Itâs the sort of thing that puts you in that weird spot where I can work but I canât deal with the hassle of getting to the office.
Iâll arrange a tele-appointment to get an x-ray referral just to make sure nothingâs wrong as it still hurts
I bought two punnets of lettuce seedlings. They seem to do well for me and we eat them up. Other garden stuff is doing well too. Mostly tidying really.
and the young Seagoons will be coming to Australia in 10 days to stay with us đ I better get everything ready. So excite.
Cherries are all pitted and in the freezer.

Seems like being away for a month didnât impact shit too heavily. No ferts in the last month either and the watering seems alright with no drama / edema. Phew.
That piece of mind the watering sys. gives is priceless.
Also saw about a dozen ladybugs so aphids are a non issue (for now).
Lots of smaller self sown chilli plants from last year just popping up now was a nice surprise.
Basil has been trimmed and moved into itâs new pots. The one at the front doesnât look to have a good root system, which is why it is trimmed so much - I wonât be surprised if it just dies anyway. The other two had good healthy roots, so I expect big things from them! The trimmed leaves have been chopped up and frozen in oil in ice cube trays.
Finished S3 of the Taskmaster Australia. Really grown fond of the show was looking forward towards S4. Found out that David Hughes will be on it, and itâs completely killed my excitement for it.
Might try to angle going home at lunch due to not feeling well⌠Barely slept last night
Some good points in this video about the social media ban aussie.zone/post/15770886
Family and I are playing Whamageddon this year, and three people have already ascended to Whamhalla, 4 days in đ
I just want to thank the Woolies strikers for the lack of stock, because Iâve been going to Aldiâs instead - they donât play music đđ
Many extremely nervous presenters at this conference. Buck up people you have really interesting things to say!!
ahahah oh god.
Client: YOU NEVER SENT US IP DATA FOR THIS UNIT. HOW DARE. WE *DEMAND *THE DATA.
Dude. It was configured according to the ip addresses you sent us
Morning plans: mow grass. remove excessive amount of fennel from the front garden. plant some volunteer cherry tomato seedlings along the front fence. pot up some basil plants from the supermarket in the hope they can regrow. somewhere in there I should do washing too.
My zucchini have two fullblown flowers now, theyâre both male flowers but more are budding.

Inspection went fine! Actually had the senior PM come, instead of the newbie from last time. Senior PM said newbie was wrong about the law regarding downlights, lol, and that it does in fact require an electrician that the RE will send out to change đ newbie told us itâs the tenants responsibility, but didnât realise the difference between a screw in bulb and downlights LOL!
so after a year of not having kitchen lights, and six months of not having a normal bathroom one, the RE is gonna get that fixed for us. Senior PM apologised profusely and said we werenât the only tenants that were given the incorrect info either.
I couldnât stop laughing! Iâm not even mad đ

Glad it went well for you!
My new house has had about half the lights changed out for those energy efficient LED light things. On the one hand, I was a bit disappointed about that, because I wanted to put my own energy saver smart bulbs in, but on the other, because theyâre directly wired into the mains and thereâs no fitting, itâs not my responsibility to change them when they go kaput
But on the third, my experience with those style of lights is that theyâre lucky to last a year before they start developing a purple hue and flickering ever so slightly (enough to piss me the fuck off though), but Iâm doubtful theyâll change them until theyâre completely dead
