Lunch slapped today. Just a frozen zucchini slice with some frozen roast potatos, but was exactly what I needed today! also nice my solar is now useful again.
Force_majeure123@aussie.zone 1 week ago
Work bought out lunch two days in a row (subway, too much of it)
Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone 1 week ago
I just had that moment where a cat gets stuck with a plastic bag somehow wrapped around them, and they shamefully come to you for help.
Poor thing. But also, adorable lol

Well, I left it right till the last minute and am only now having a shower and dinner (because otherwise I would’ve felt like curling up in bed…)
But I have cleared out 90% of unused/expired things in my pantry!! and consolidated 70% of what remains (the rest I’ll still need to use for a while). There was an embarrassing amount of nuts (esp almonds) I had to throw out :(
I’ve also cleared out random boxes in my car from months ago from when the new car stereo was installed. Recycling bin pretty full after all this.
Pretty satisfied with today’s effort! This weekend’s big cull is the clothes. I think I’m making decent progress. I seriously need to book a mover ahead of time tho, any recommendations?
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 1 week ago
Good work. 🌞
it’s a dreadful job but very necessary, I always feel so guilty at throwing out food, even when it’s expired
just_kitten@aussie.zone 1 week ago
Oh gosh it was utterly heartbreaking tossing out so many nuts. I just kept thinking back to my starving uni days where I would’ve cherished all that food and learnt to make so many things with it rather than let it go to waste. It’s a good wake up call to keep my dry food purchases over the next few months to a minimum

The last time I moved I used Man with a Van - only it was two of them. No complaints, no damage to items. And some items had to be carried down a narrow & twisty staircase. I believe their charges are about industry standard.
just_kitten@aussie.zone 1 week ago
Fantastic, they were who I was looking at. Between you and Spud that’s a pretty solid recommendation. I don’t want to spend too long paralysed between choosing different movers to save maybe $100
StudChud@aussie.zone 1 week ago
Jinx!
StudChud@aussie.zone 1 week ago
I like man with a van, personally. Used them when I moved from Epping to the CBD, and then again when I moved from the CBD to Brunswick. I like that I could put it on the website what I had to move, how big things were, and how many (chairs, drawers, etc). And at the time their rates were reasonable.
just_kitten@aussie.zone 1 week ago
Yes I really do like their website! They seem reasonable to me and I just want to not have to think too much (esp with new place being up 3 flights of stairs). I’ll probably just go with them but need to start consolidating which items I need their help with. Definitely fridge, couch, washing machine, tv stand, mattress, probably accommodate a few heavy boxes and the dismantled bed frame…
tombruzzo@aussie.zone 1 week ago
I just did a ticket at the new job and this is it. This is the sort of work I’ve been missing for the last couple of years. I don’t know if it’s because I was working with clunky software or what, but I just didn’t enjoy my last couple of roles.
This should have the same issues of finiky work that requires high attention to detail, but there’s something about this where I can get into a workflow to just get the work done and check it as well.
I’m not diagnosed with anything but it’s like this work tickles a part of my brain the way factorio or one of those games does for some people
just_kitten@aussie.zone 1 week ago
That’s really great that your new job is sounding like a better fit for you - makes it much easier to move on from the old job and know that you’re not the problem, there is a place for you :D
tombruzzo@aussie.zone 1 week ago
Exactly. It feels good knowing I’m back in work I like doing, whilst my old workplace is mildly inconvenienced by dealing with this massive platform no one knows how to use whilst they look for someone else.
Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone 1 week ago
Glad to hear it man!!!

Got a call back from CAV today about my application to have the rent increase reviewed, seems like it’s about a 30 day turnaround. Well since shit has changed so much I said it’s no longer necessary and to close the case but they were very helpful about checking that I knew my rights around vacating with 14 day notice etc.
I sent my intention of notice to vacate to the LL yesterday morning, no response so far, and CAV themselves advised that while the LL doesn’t have to respond, if they don’t specify how to return possession (i.e., keys) then really all I need to do is tell them how I’ve done it and then it’s the LL’s problem as to whether the property is secure or otherwise 🤷
Missed the opportunity to ask how exactly I can report LL if she starts listing the property for rent within 6 months of the vacate notice, but I guess I’ll find a way to call again if it comes up.

Went out for dins last night with fam + SIL. Nice place AUGELLO’S in balwyn. Place was packed and the staff did an incredible job managing that. Good pizza!
But turns out bro and SIL are trump supporters which came as a shock to the rest of us.
Back in the day around the kitchen table we’d get into heated arguments about Labor/LNP. Old man is heavy rusted on LNP (as in he’d leave the room if people we shitting on their policy setting). He just sat there in disbelief.
But this didn’t turn into an argument. Just the sound of eyebrows being raised.
Everyone is entitled to their views… but yeah… wow. They’re well educated aswell.
I’m not really the type to get upset with views but their views on the rona and now this definitely makes it difficult to think any better of them.
just_kitten@aussie.zone 1 week ago
As a total outsider just based on what you’ve described about your bro and SIL over the last year or two… I am not surprised that they are Trump supporters. Selfishness is often correlated with that category of people. I’m so sorry you got another blow to your relationship with them…
Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 1 week ago
It’s a shame. Would be nice to get that back on track (and see bboi butters more often) but yeah :(
Nath@aussie.zone 1 week ago
I was surprised to learn that a few people at work were happy with yesterday’s result also. Not in a ‘good for them’ kind of way (which is how I’d have been had the result been different), but in a more direct good for us kind of way. One person even pulled out one of those red and white hats. I have never seen one in Australia before.
These are smart people. I have previously dismissed most of the Republican supporters as uninformed and uneducated. It’s easy to just assume that anyone voting for the guy has no idea what they’re doing.
I still don’t get why anyone in Australia is that invested in US politics. But I’m reassessing my previous notions that the Republican party is as successful as it is because they have convinced dumb people to vote for them.
RustyRaven@aussie.zone 1 week ago
I think it is not so much dumb people as the selfish entitled people - the sort that are always looking disaprovingly at anybody who is getting anything they are not - and that is a huge demographic. The sort of people who get their nose out of joint at everything from someone taking more food at the buffet to people receiving welfare benefits (or even disability or workcover claims). It also flows over into everyone who thinks that it is unfair if anyone who is female/foreign/gay etc. has something they don’t, and assume it is being unfairly taken away from them.
There is probably a correlation between that and dumb, but there is also a sizeable group who recognise that the Republican plan will increase inequality and believe they will come out on top in that situation. Trump and his cronies lining their own pockets will help a lot of other rich and unscrupulous people do the same.
Taleya@aussie.zone 1 week ago
grifters can get anyone. The smarter people are the less likely they are to admit they got hoodwinked.
tombruzzo@aussie.zone 1 week ago
Are they small business owners? My most charitable take would be they can see what’s of economic benefit to them because everything else about Trump’s platform wouldn’t directly affect them
Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 1 week ago
No they work here in govt. which is the odd thing. It just has no impact on them but they feel very strongly about it.
Bizarre.

Only silver lining is watching Dump fumble and fuck up for 4 years (or whenever he kicks it).
TinyBreak@aussie.zone 1 week ago
Oh. He wont make it 4 years. He’ll be lucky to make it 1. But then they are stuck with couch fucker, which honestly may not be so bad depending on which persona shows up on any given day. And maybe next time democrats get into power they wont fuck around for 4 years. They had 4 years to lock the fucker up and they did nothing. Should be a lesson in that for all of us, seize the bloody day.

I’m cleaning up and I found a cover that goes on the battery compartment. I have no idea what it’s from. I’ve kept it for a reason and I’ll continue to keep it but it’s gonna do my head in for the rest of the day.

Catfish@aussie.zone 1 week ago
Ok, wtf is going on?! I’ve heard at least 15 units, there are choppers not showing on flight radar, train line is down and nothing on VicEmergency.
RustyRaven@aussie.zone 1 week ago
As a general rule lots of emergency services + train + no info tends to mean someone hit by a train. Although I think when there was a suspected bomb at Ringwood the situation was much the same, although that had roads around the station blocked off too.
Catfish@aussie.zone 1 week ago
Yeah, I get that. Though one not long ago I managed to figure out it was a cow hit not a person. The choppers not showing up when I can clearly hear them is disconcerting.

12.50 for some SR flour, Eggs and a bag of potatos. Thats what i get for going to coles. Has anyone ever been to Dandenong Market? was jelous of the 35 dollar fruit and veg box someone got last weekend from Preston market. Or is there a good online service people like?
Eagle@aussie.zone 1 week ago
If we’re nearby we’ll do the Dandy Market. It’s not cost effective for us to drive there just to go to the market but if we’re out and about we’ll go. Are you Paky way? I’ve heard good things about Garfield fruit and veg, and I think they’re online too. I’m more Cranbourne way so I go to what they call Market on the main street and I’m pretty happy with price and quality.
TinyBreak@aussie.zone 1 week ago
I’m nearish paky, yeah. Hadnt considered travel to Dandenong. Will check both out, thanks!
dumblederp@aussie.zone 1 week ago
Market Europa is pretty good price for fruit and veg if there’s one near you. It’s close enough to mine that Dandy market is another 7km/30 mins. Dandy is probably better but effort counts too.
TinyBreak@aussie.zone 1 week ago
Darn, there isnt. Ah well thanks for the recommendation I will keep an eye out if I head into suburbia.
Nath@aussie.zone 1 week ago
I can’t tell you how much I miss Preston Markets, even now. My oldest and I were a fixture there. Vendors knew his name/he knew them etc. We were there upwards of three times a week from when he was a newborn. The sounds of the market would soothe him to sleep when he was a baby. He had a tiny size 2 uniform of the taco truck that Ellie bought for him and he wore proudly out and about.
The few markets we have in Perth are more like Queen Vic than just regular weekly shopping markets.

I think I’ve worked out part of a water colour and calligraphy project I have.
I’ll choose a lovely modernish font, one that is free flowing and a little artie. Maybe I’ll do two, one that is a little more serious but in the same family of fonts. And then I will practice my arse off and write out the alphabets, photograph and then upload as my own typeface on the puter. 👍

And a migraine right on schedule. Lucky I postponed the show tonight.
I’m giving myself permission to play ps5.
Thornburywitch@aussie.zone 1 week ago
Look, feel free to ignore this, but have you had your glasses prescription (if any) updated recently? I’ve had headaches that were made worse by tension/stress but magically vanished when I got new glasses.
Taleya@aussie.zone 1 week ago
adding to the possibles - do you have allergies? Because 'tis the season and sinuses. And if you take a lot of sudafed, it dries them out and will absolutely smash your head in when they get angry
Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone 1 week ago
The new glasses I got have actually helped a lot. It’s just an old shoulder injury that flares up and causes the headache.
TinyBreak@aussie.zone 1 week ago
Have you spoken to a doctor if this keeps happening to you?
Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone 1 week ago
It’s from a shoulder injury. It requires a certain amount of gym activity which I haven’t been doing since I started the new job.
I’ll get back into it this weekend. No other choice.
Duenan@aussie.zone 1 week ago
I’ve got a headache coming as well but I’m stuck at work.
Play for your ps5 for me.
