This might be delulu on my part but hoping to use the wind to dry clothes before the rain really hits at 4 pm.

Still 4 pm according to BOM app in my area.

Okay, my final fancy purchase (I promise)
I got a second hand Sony speaker in pretty good condition for 30 bucks (an sbx-xrb-31 or something like that - Sony uses stupid names). Itâs an absolute hoot. It has LEDs and features a ârave modeâ
Seriously: Image
CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone âš3â© âšmonthsâ© ago
Youâve done good there buddy. Sony are good in the speaker department. đ
Baku@aussie.zone âš3â© âšmonthsâ© ago
I thought it was a bit bassy, but also quiet, but apparently it has an âextra bassâ mode which i figured out how to turn off, and when itâs under 20% battery, it halves the volume
tombruzzo@aussie.zone âš3â© âšmonthsâ© ago
Iâve got a speaker from this era of Sony and itâs still going strong. Cool is a good setting to avoid those big light flashes if you want the party lights on
tombruzzo@aussie.zone âš3â© âšmonthsâ© ago
A friend of mine asked the groupchat for a ânostalgicâ pizza place. We figured out he meant a good bad pizza, not the Pizza Hut buffet from days of yore.
It got me thinking about good takeaway pizza places where the pizza isnât fancy but it still hits the spot. Fairfield Pizza is great, I could get two large pizzas and a garlic bread for $20 back in the day. Original Sinners in Macleod is up there as well. Thereâs a place near me called Romulus Pizza, itâs a bit more fancy but still takeaway. Probably one of the best takeaway places Iâve ever gone to, they make their own dough and you can feel the difference.

brr, Iâm cleaning the fridge and freezer before I pack away the big monthly shop
do other people do this?
CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone âš3â© âšmonthsâ© ago
I have a small freezer that needs to be defrosted every 6 months or so, so we eat everything from it, then I defrost it, clean it and restock.
The fridge I do one shelf at a time periodically.
Seagoon_@aussie.zone âš3â© âšmonthsâ© ago
That sounds very organised and practical
TinyBreak@aussie.zone âš3â© âšmonthsâ© ago
not as often as I should!
Catfish@aussie.zone âš3â© âšmonthsâ© ago
Yes. I used to have a small secondary freezer for bulk batch tomatoes etc Miss it. But yes, when it gets low, scrub, then mega stock up.
Catfish@aussie.zone âš3â© âšmonthsâ© ago
Plotting outfit for âBad Tasteâ birthday party tomorrow. Currently all hot pink leopard print and safety vest orange. I do have some orange makeup, but itâs super itchyâŠ

I watched the start of the most absurdly hilarious movie last night. Itâs called Hundreds of Beavers and the first 30 minutes is basically a Wile E Coyote skit. My god, I was losing it.
I hope the rest of it is just as good.
MeanElevator@aussie.zone âš3â© âšmonthsâ© ago
Someone recommended it to me a while back and I âacquiredâ it. Itâs absolutely bonkers and stupidly hilarious.
danwritesbooks@aussie.zone âš3â© âšmonthsâ© ago

Sending some warm, muggy, late night loveâŠ
Man, itâs been years since Iâve spent time in the more chaotic parts of Asia. Favs atm are:
- A passenger on a scooter legit carrying a ladder upright.
- Gramps on his scooter living his best life riding at about 10kms an hour.
- Women riding scooters in PJâs
Seagoon_@aussie.zone âš3â© âšmonthsâ© ago
and nearly all are wearing sandals
dumblederp@aussie.zone âš3â© âšmonthsâ© ago
I rode it scooter around Thailand. As itâs dangerous for tourists generally, Iâd pick a grandma and potter along behind her through the chaos. Never had an issue.
Llabyrinthine@aussie.zone âš3â© âšmonthsâ© ago
I did, too, years ago.
Though checking in a hotel in Patong and watching a slight Japanese woman wheeled out in wheelchair after she broke both and and legs (face looked fine, luckily) on a scooter, should be enough to make some people think twice.
MeanElevator@aussie.zone âš3â© âšmonthsâ© ago
The Boys is such an accurate parody of The USA. Itâs as if the writes are writing the election cycle
Funny and scary
just_kitten@aussie.zone âš3â© âšmonthsâ© ago
I braved it to the city today and back with a mask on the whole time. The most weird thing has had to happen at the end. Tram driver swapped over at Barkers Rd and the new driver was saying things to himself while setting up, like âadjusting my seatâ and âreaching out for the mirrorâ and I thought it was
RustyRaven@aussie.zone âš3â© âšmonthsâ© ago
I think a major problem with DoorDashâs new drone delivery service is that it has to deliver to clear ground, which means you have to go outside to get your food, it wonât be right at your door. If they really want to provide a good service they need to have drones that can open the door, come inside and drop off direct to your lounge chair or bed. Or maybe the robo vac could be taught to multi-task and meet up with the drone for the final delivery leg?
just_kitten@aussie.zone âš3â© âšmonthsâ© ago
Roombutler, I wouldnât mind that. Fetch the ~newspapers~ dirty bird for me, Jeeves
dumblederp@aussie.zone âš3â© âšmonthsâ© ago
My old housemates brother delivered for the local pizza place. He had a spare key. We could get pizzas delivered to our bedrooms.
RustyRaven@aussie.zone âš3â© âšmonthsâ© ago
My new slippers were delivered today, but they took them to the post office for me to collect. I could have had toasty warm purple feet tonight, but instead I have to go out on a day with possible small hail predicted to collect them. âčïž

Bob Newhart has passed away. The star of the sitcom Newhart (who played Dick) as well as others.
The classic line hi Iâm Larry, this is my brother Daryl and my other brother Daryl came from this show.

So question: when you have to rate something that doesnât apply, do you give it a 5 or 3 star? eBay always asks me to rate seller communication, which is almost never relevant. They mark it as posted, and thatâs generally the extent of the âcommunicationâ. I have been marking that as 3 stars, but I was thinking, that probably brings down their averages, right? Iâd be annoyed if my feedback rate went from 100 to 99.97% because someone thought something was irrelevant.
Seems like a bit of a disconnect between how I issue ratings and how I take ratings into account. All this online review stuff seems to have skewed the bare minimum rating from a 3. i.e I probably wouldnât consider a shop or seller thatâs only rated 3 stars, even though in my mind, 3 stars means neutral, when it comes to reviews, 3 stars seems bad
Thornburywitch@aussie.zone âš3â© âšmonthsâ© ago
This is why I just donât trust star reviews - itâs not only just because of fake/paid responses. Thereâs a whole science about this sort of dissonance in perception when it comes to rating reviews etc. It happens to everybody - my personal description for it is questionnaire bias. Iâve never had a questionnaire or a rating review where my actual opinions and experiences were accurately reflected in the questions/ratings. My advice fwiw is just not to stress over it. Everyone has a different take on what âexcellentâ means to them. For some it might be that delivery on the day specified is enough for that rating - some might consider that just normal and âexcellentâ might consist of much more than that like good and timely service on a return/refund as well.
LowExperience2368@aussie.zone âš3â© âšmonthsâ© ago
To get points for the team in the fitness challenge Iâm doing, they asked us to leave a review. Now of course people are going to leave five star reviews to kiss the butts of the owners, and so theyâre not looked down upon by people in the gym.
But they could also just be enjoying their experience and felt compelled to share.
Nath@aussie.zone âš3â© âšmonthsâ© ago
5 stars. Thatâs the default.
The logic to US companies is backwards to us. We think of it as earning your stars. And yeah, 3 is kinda average. Not bad, not great. They think of it as 5 stars is normal. Perfect every time. You lose points for imperfections.
Example: An Uber driver would lose their job at around 4.1 average rating. So after your trip, you can say 5 stars (normal) or anything else (fire this driver).
Itâs stupid, and completely ruins the point of a rating scale. Plus, itâs also not really compatible with Australian culture. We would think 4 stars is good. 3 stars is ok.
stepchook@mastodon.au âš3â© âšmonthsâ© ago
Seagoon_@aussie.zone âš3â© âšmonthsâ© ago
I donât bother with ebay or amazon ratings, itâs fake
but personal stuff, I choose what I read or watch very carefully so very often it really is excellent
quizzes, Iâm older and I have thought through nearly everything so Iâm definite on a lot of things, for instance Iâm adamant on tolerance
Catfish@aussie.zone âš3â© âšmonthsâ© ago
I always had this problem with peer rated assignments. Other people were rating absolutely everything 9/10 and I was giving honest 7 for good but nothing special. I looked mean, and thought them incapable of critical thinkingâŠ
Seagoon_@aussie.zone âš3â© âšmonthsâ© ago
I bought a big bunch of singles at the opshop the other, have no idea what some of them are

Eh. Iâve given in and paid much more than I wanted for a duplicate pair of Cotton On trackies because to keep trying to get a comfortable pair without the opportunity to try them on is throwing good money after bad. đ
(That also allowed me to get a manual paper shredder on clearance - the noise of the motorised one is intolerable so it doesnât get used.)
I got only one pair though because I will be going through and culling my clothes in an effort to find the other cheap ones I had⊠they canât have walked off on their own. Also even if theyâre quality Melbcatâs claws will pull out many threads before too long. Thatâs why I buy cheapâŠ
Pretty angry about it. I was fine with bare bones until it becomes so ill fitting as to cause discomfort. You shouldnât have to pay premium to have a usable item.
Even the cost of basic groceries is obscene now
Seagoon_@aussie.zone âš3â© âšmonthsâ© ago
Iâve sorted my DP collection, shucked out a dozen I will never listen to because they are just crap, right now I have on vol. 1 of the 1960 Aussie jazz festival. The other Ray Price www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNUgQdJA3g0
melbaboutown@aussie.zone âš3â© âšmonthsâ© ago
Donating every piece of clothing I just bought because despite being the ârightâ size it actually sucks.
Socks that are so tight in the ribbing they strangle my ankles. Bra with straps I canât tighten enough to keep them in place. Trackies with waist high rigid elastic that feels like itâs squeezing my stomach despite being slightly loose, and an excessively baggy arse.
What the hell Kmart? That was a complete waste of money because despite shelling out I still donât have what I needed.
Now I have to wait until I can get support to go shopping and see what Iâm getting.
Weeby_Wabbit@lemmy.dbzer0.com âš3â© âšmonthsâ© ago
fucking tell me about it. Bought a pair of jeans from BigW, they lasted less than a month before the thighs and ass split open.
twenty pairs of jeans in two years from Target, Big W, and Harris Scarfe.
Iâve even tried Leviâs and they lasted all of two weeks.
At least Nudie Jeans guarantees free repairs and alterations for life, but theyâre so expensive.
melbaboutown@aussie.zone âš3â© âšmonthsâ© ago
Kmart used to be decent, I had no complaints. Now even âuniversal fitâ types of things have to be tried on in person. Apparently even baggy elasticated items and socks. Pilled on the first wash too
(The trackies also fit more like the next size up. The tight feeling came from the weird exaggerated hourglass cut. Completely different in sizing and cut to the past pairs I bought that were out of stock.)
Bottom_racer@aussie.zone âš3â© âšmonthsâ© ago
I miss my old nudies. $300 back in the day, hard to justify, but jeez they were very good.
anotherspringchicken@aussie.zone âš3â© âšmonthsâ© ago
Kmart sizing is nuts! I ordered some tops recently in 2 sizes above what I would usually wear, to make sure theyâd be comfortably loose. They turned out to be way too tight, while other stuff is the right size relative to the tag. Very annoying
melbaboutown@aussie.zone âš3â© âšmonthsâ© ago
It is very strange.
Undies (except the bamboo midi) must be bought one size up minimum.
Shoes are so long and narrow they must be bought a size up minimum, yet are still extremely long and narrow on feet that are naturally that way. Normal feet would require two sizes up just for the width.
Pants must be a size bigger than shirts even though my shoulders are wider than my hips (so it should be the other way around).
Bras are functionally completely different band and cup sizes despite having the same size on the label.
And the trackie daks of the same size vary from small and very straight cut to running very large and exaggeratedly hourglass cut.
I unfortunately donât have frequent opportunities to go in person otherwise I would. You really need to.
