My boss is going on leave for four weeks as of today, so I asked my bosses boss of they’ll be my reference. They will, and it was pretty chill

Unclear when the ‘get a job’ step kicks in though.

Create a generic cover letter/resume combo file and apply for a bunch of jobs through recruitment companies at the moment. It’s the end of the month so they’ll all be looking to maximise their commission. Aim for jobs that have been up for close to two weeks as well, they’ll be closing soon

Eleven days since I tested, twelve since the symptoms hit. Spoke to the nurse at my practice and she said it’s not surprising as I’ve still got symptoms, and this variant tends to linger, but if I’m still coughing next week give them a call and they’ll reevaluate.

Now this hotel doesn’t have very good soundproofing (at this point I don’t believe any building in Australia does) and I can hear everything happening in the hallway and the rooms next to me. BUT I’ve got a splitty in my room and I set it to come on if it goes under 19 and this is great. So much easier to wake up when it’s not like 5° in your room

I still couldn’t get a very good sleep though. Dozed off again at 5:30 or so and woke up again now. But tonight I’ll have a better sleep

I think I’ll wear my slippers around the house all the time.

I got the kids some hot wheels cars and one is a stegosaurs. Essentially its a spike trap on wheels. Couple that with their puzzle pieces with little handles on them and there are a few nasty things to step on.

I want to avoid the very dad thing of stepping on one of the kids’ toys at an unfortunate moment

How can people not? My feet would be freezing if I didn’t even with socks!!

      • Baku@aussie.zone ⁚10⁩ ⁚months⁩ ago

I used to be very anti socks (and anti shoes too, but that’s a different story
) and took both off the second I was inside. Then one day I was just sort of too lazy to take the socks off and wore them for about 24 hours or so and was pleasantly surprised with how nice it feels wearing socks constantly, and how warm my feet stay. Now I am only sockless for about an hour a day

        I can’t stand slippers though

Crazy tooth pain tuesday night, saw my dentist yesterday, tooth extracted (2nd one in 2 months but it had to go), today is pretty much pain free with like no soreness in my gums or jaw. I’m glad, but also odd.

    source
    • TinyBreak@aussie.zone ⁚10⁩ ⁚months⁩ ago

yikes! Not ideal. I had a mate describe a root canal as the worst pain he’s ever experienced. Takes his dental hygiene VERY seriously now.

      source
      • MeanElevator@aussie.zone ⁚10⁩ ⁚months⁩ ago

This was going to be either a root canal (got quoted 3k for it) or a pull. I opted for the pull as it’s instant and about 1/10 of the price.

Interestingly enough, I brush twice a day, floss daily, avoid sugary shit etc. Sometimes it’s just genetic unfortunately. I inherited my dad’s crappy teeth instead of my mum’s.

Whilst I’m positive about my plans for the future in general I’m a bit apprehensive about moving house too. It’s all the little changes, stuff like where the teaspoons are is pretty much muscle memory now, I’ve been in the same place for 18 years now so the little routines are quite ingrained. Plus I have to get used to sharing space again and all the compromises that entails. All while reassuring a cat and dog who will also be stressed by the transition.

At least by the time everything is sorted out to actually make a move it should be Spring, so I won’t have to contend with either freezing cold or boiling hot temperatures.

    • TinyBreak@aussie.zone ⁚10⁩ ⁚months⁩ ago

Plus I have to get used to sharing space again and all the compromises that entails.

Honestly it really comes down to people. The people have made for some of the best times of my life living in sharehouses. But conversely, laying on the couch and finding a condom wrapper you didnt use is NOT fun. Living with teenagers sucks.

      source
      • RustyRaven@aussie.zone ⁚10⁩ ⁚months⁩ ago

I managed to mostly miss the sharehouse situations, other than a year in student residence. The idea of a living in a standard sharehouse fills me with horror. I’m moving in with Mum which will make it a bit different, especially as she is starting to need help so I will over time end up taking over all the work of cooking etc. I’ve spent many years perfecting my techniques for cooking for one, now I have to cook for two, plus take into account someone else’s preferences (and dental challenges). A sharp learning curve awaits - along with a major re-evaluation of my kitchen container collection! Hopefully she retains ability to do some cooking for as long as possible though - even if I have to partially pre-pepare meals in advance the idea of being able to go home after work to dinner underway at least occassionally definitely appeals.

I notice that here too, which really annoys me. I understand it a little bit more on Reddit, but it pisses me off so much when there’s an article from abc.net.au posted in c/AustralianNews@aussie.zone and half the comments are just Americans being confused.

I guess that’s the one positive of the week long federation delays with Lemmy World - most of the Americans are segregated into their own isolated cosm for about a week until it federates over here

Just cancelled my prime membership. In truth, I haven’t been buying enough from Amazon to justify it, but it isn’t something I think about all that often.

Then they emailed me last week saying “hey, we’ll be introducing ads to Prime on July 1st”

Yeah, nah. I can’t justify that. What surprised me was though that it was moderately easy to cancel. I thought cancelling was needlessly complicated and they just got in trouble about that.

I have had a realisation that todays kids will never experience a life where they are not under constant observation. And it’s probably willingly. Social media, tracking aps on phone from parents, data collected on their preferences for any media they engage with, smart watches that monitor movement and sleep, etc.

Far out that was a long day. 10 solid hours of work, on green tea only (really not cutting it), plus a lot of faffing around with getting locked in the office building because I stayed so late
It’s too early in my job to start pulling long hours. But I’m telling myself it’s a once off due to a particular combination of unanticipated things. That, and I want to do half day on Monday for cake related reasons, so it’s Strategic. I will NOT let it be a pattern! I have Boundaries.
