Right after they finish the self driving.
Might be reality sooner than you think

They’ll fix those cyber trucks blowing up too.
PattyMcB@lemmy.world 2 days ago
Didn’t they already “fix” that by recalling all of the two-wheel-drive model ones?

me watching a tesla roadster blow up because they hit a pothole
Agent641@lemmy.world 1 day ago
“Pothole” being the codename for a homemade antitank mine that only goes off when it detects the Bluetooth MAC address of a Tesla roadster driving over
IAmNorRealTakeYourMeds@lemmy.world 1 day ago
or just a normal pothole. have you seen how well built the cyber trucks are? now give it a few hundred litres of compressed air

It’s probably never getting sold, it’s definitely not going to be road legal if it is.
echodot@feddit.uk 1 day ago
It has a flight time of about 12 seconds, of course it’s never getting made

Even if they can fly, don’t think they could go over other vehicles without killing people. That downward force has to go somewhere.
Buddahriffic@lemmy.world 1 day ago
When they first come out, there will probably be stories of people trying to do that but then crashing when they run out of compressed air but the traffic they are trying to avoid is still there and not leaving them room to land. Assuming they even maintain enough control for that to be relevant.
Duamerthrax@lemmy.world 9 hours ago
I’m imagining one trying to bypass traffic on a bridge and going sideways, crashing into a river.

Lmao. Single use boosters for that trick wont get us flying cars in 100 years lol

Watch, the EU is gonna make it functionally, if not actually, illegal, if it isn’t already, to have a car that can “jump”^[1]^ like that.
^[1]^: read: accelerate downwards at less than 9.81 m/s^2^ if unsupported by a solid thing beneath

The “flying” tesla exists, though - there was a demo recently.
Now, it only has 1 seat, isn’t street legal, is being sold on a invitation only basis for an undisclosed price, and uses compressed air to “fly” so it can’t do so for any sustained period - so you won’t see what the meme describes.
Also the versions that are legal and actually would be sold at best have some jets of air on the back to make them go faster, but that coats like 250k USD.
ChicoSuave@lemmy.world 2 days ago
Flying and jumping are different. That car landed and rolled but didn’t fly. The Wright brothers flew further than Tesla ever could.
