Because the subscribers are horrible people too.
We all know that Mr Beast, Logan Paul, and KSI are all horrible people. Why do they still have subscribers?

Most of their subscribers are pre-teen kids and kids in their early teens who don’t really have a strong enough sense of self to differentiate what they’re being visually presented with with the external realities of that presentation. Combine that with parents that are too tired and too distracted with their own, quite possibly terrible media fixations and you have a perfect storm of negligence and predation.
I mean, Mr. Beast, as a whole, is a terrible thing, but his individual videos show people having fun doing interesting things, and you get to parasocially enjoy them. It’s entertainment media geared towards kids, and it presents itself as being family-friendly, so the people who cannot look past the presentation believe it to be family-friendly.

Nah they mostly kids I think
TORFdot0@lemmy.world 3 days ago
Because most children don’t know this and have unsupervised internet access

In the words of Marilyn Manson, “Raise your kids better or I’ll be raising them for you.”
lechekaflan@lemmy.world 2 days ago
Why do they still have subscribers?
Mostly kids or teens who are unsupervised and so horribly impressionable. Moreso if a percentage of those bastards’ viewership also come from developing countries whose young populations have access to smartphones and cheap internet but are lacking credible role models, and so instead Youtube becomes the substitute.

Some don’t know, some don’t care, some agree with their actions/opinions.
While it’s important every individual develop and maintain a moral framework, individuals rarely if ever use morality as the soul basis for day to day decisions/actions.
The world just doesn’t operate on a solely moral basis. Some don’t consider the morality of mundane acts, some find the morality of a thing excusable/justifiable when considered, and some come to find their morals agree.
X@piefed.world 3 days ago
Having read the comments section of those three to get an idea, you sum it up very well. Very many don’t care, are oblivious as to why the “charity” is played to so much (re: mrbeast), fully agree with them, and frequently enjoy them doing objectively bad that shit older people won’t, possibly out of vicariousness. They just wanna sit there and watch Ow! My balls!

Because there are a lot… A LOT of stupid/ignorant people in the world.
I have to interact every now and then with someone who is a MrBeast stan. He’s in his 20s or 30s and has a kid of his own. He’s also a fan of xxtentacion and even when he was confronted with facts about MrBeast being a scammer and abuser, and xxtentacion beating his pregnant girlfriend, he said it was just haters making up stories. I literally linked him an NBC article about whatever current controversial shit MrBeast was up to, and he said that “y’know you really shouldn’t trust .com domains”
SharkAttak@kbin.melroy.org 3 days ago
"y'know you really shouldn't trust .com domains."
So basically half of internet? What a stupid stance.
IsoKiero@sopuli.xyz 2 days ago
So basically half of internet? What a stupid stance.
“Don’t trust half of the internet” is really not that stupid idea, although it should be much higher than half. But that approach from above is of course stupid on many different levels.
LarryBetraitor@lemmy.world 3 days ago
I don’t disagree with Mr Beast being a scammer and abuser, and I also don’t disagree with a domain being untrustworthy just because it’s a .com domain.
That being said, I should point out that the news/media isn’t exactly reliable. NBC is no exception. Even if the article is true (which it most likely is), I wouldn’t blame someone for not trusting NBC.
Blackfeathr@lemmy.world 3 days ago
I get it that the media is captured by billionaires but my point is that I don’t think that NBC, a television network that has been around for 100 years, would put their reputation on the line to publish lies about a random wealthy YouTuber, who likely has lawyers on retainer that could sue for libel.
Duamerthrax@lemmy.world 2 days ago
Their fans are dumb children or dumb adults. They simply do not care so long as they are entertained.
I once saw someone defend Chris Brown by saying if you got rid of all the criminals in the entertainment industry, they’re be no entertainment left.
That being said, I know about Beast and Paul, but what did ksi do?
Kite@sh.itjust.works 3 days ago
Because most people _don’t _ know. Most people are not spending hours online doomscrolling politics, pedos and such. I’m from Mr. Beast’s ares, and no one here has a clue. Most of my coworkers do think a lot of his products are stupid, though.

My wife who is normally a pretty well read person feels that MrBeast is great and is “one of the more generous content creators “
Some people just don’t wanna take their head out of the sand for crappy videos
zlatiah@lemmy.world 3 days ago
My understanding is… Being popular (a.k.a. having lots of subscribers) requires someone to be entertaining and be good at self-promotion. Being entertaining is independent from being a good person. For the latter, I once saw a streamer say something along the lines that anyone who is willing to do that level of self-promotion likely self-selects for very strong narcissistic traits
… and a lot of their subscribers are relatively young and likely don’t care, probably
brucethemoose@lemmy.world 2 days ago
Because the algorithm loves them.
Everyone is acting like its the sea of kids fault. These guys don’t pop into children’s feeds on accident, or through random selection.
JakoJakoJako13@piefed.social 3 days ago
They’re not targeting me and you. They’re targeting kids. Their whole thing is be kid friendly enough to take advantage of that lane while still being horrible people. Kids have always had a crazy “don’t to this at home” type of influence in life. Evel Knieval. Pro Wrestling. Jackass. Now it’s these guys. They’re more insidious because their reach is way larger and easier to get. A smart person looks at them and goes ‘this is shit.’ What if you don’t know any better? What group is that? Kids.

when the beast, KSI drama came out about lunchly last year, people were complaining about him and also wierdly defending him at the same time. thats how hes still here.

Again everyone you bring them up, whether that is to denigrate, or defend them, you’re still talking about them.
You are giving each of them the power to live rent free in your head.

I understand the concept of taste and having not the same as i do. I understand that kids, young, dumb, horrible[…] people exist. I understand that not anybody is a terminally online old fuck who remembers the good old pre web 2.0 days and is hypercritical of most modern online content. Then there is that orange fuck…
Still i also just dont get it. Its just garbage made by garbage people acting like garbage. Its so bad. Its so obvious. Why all these fucks still have careers just doesnt make any sense to me.
I think this is a rare case where i’m not out of touch and its the children who actually are wrong.
ada@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 days ago
I’m aware Mr Beast exists, but I know nothing about him. I mean, I would have assumed he is awful, because money does that to people, but I’d have nothing to back up my gut feeling.
And I’ve never heard of KSI…
Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 3 days ago
he makes these fake challenge videos, which are targeting children as the audience, it seems popular with them, plus he made nasty “lunachables” with logan, and ksi, and his chocolates too, also he selling it overseas as well. hes very popular because of how he does his video to game the algorithims.

Horrible people gonna subscribe to horrible people and there is no shortage of them.
awmwrites@lemmy.cafe 3 days ago
There’s a certain portion of people for whom an entertainer being a horrible person is a selling point. They like it when Logan Paul comes into a new hobby as a tourist, drives it into a commodity speculation market, then runs off with the money. It makes them feel good and superior. “Fuck those people who got scammed or screwed by externalities,” they think. “Fucking idiots following the social contract, buncha NPCs. Not like me and Logan Paul. We’re real people.” And then they get scammed or screwed by externalities, and they blame poor people, or trans people, or immigrants, or someone else who has no social power because it can’t be the fault of someone like Logan Paul. He’s a real person, not one of those dregs of society screwing everything up for them. So they cheer on the people fucking them over and blame the people being fucked over with them. And it’s very easy to stop: If an asshole can take power through structural incentives, we should change the structure to disallow such power from being amassed. But nobody wants to change the structure, because someday they could be Logan Paul, with all the money and the fame, and you can’t take that from them, no matter how many people get fucked or scammed.

MR beast said he "studied the algorithim and what makes youtubers/audience tic, so he made his videos accordingly targeting mainly children, plus hes selling his unhealthy snacks overseas as well, which he apparently has a fanbase with asian countries. i felt like logan felt out of the youtube sphere, thats why he pivoted maga now.

radiofreebc@lemmy.world 3 days ago
The same reason Chris Brown still has female fans. They’re rich and famous.
magiccupcake@lemmy.world 3 days ago
It’s also not really an accident either. Their popularity is not fully natural.
All these companies, Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, tiktok, reddit, etc are not apolitical entities, they gain by pushing right-wing content to certain demographics of vulnerable users.
I’ve noticed that personally I can’t use algorithmic media like this because it will shove that content like that down my throat and I refuse. But not everyone has that self-awareness and introspection. And some of the content is really subtle, not enough to be noticable at first.
maxihuenu@lemmy.ml 3 days ago
why mr beast is horrible?
FaceDeer@fedia.io 3 days ago
When you say "we all know", who are you talking about? Everybody that you know? That's a social bubble, a self-selected subset of "everybody."
"Horrible" is in the eye of the beholder, and people have differing opinions on stuff. You probably like and subscribe to someone that lots of other people would consider "horrible" in turn.

Look at some of the long term representatives long before. Same story. That can go for both parties, btw.
Same reason Carlin didn't go after the politicians. There wouldn't be a problem if the demand wasn't there. The public sucks.
