You can’t just move regional and get a job. You still need means, an audience, a support network and just as importantly users for the service that pays the bills.
Years ago you could start a shop or a service. Lots of these options have been wiped out.

- Comment on How com the ad industry make so much money? 1 week ago:
I think one other thing is people associate ads with the old way, something posted, flashing at the side of a screen, rather than the full range from product placement to shilling and influence online. No one can avoid ads but you can certainly take steps to, and to also not be so swayed.
I have really started to practice anti consumerism. I try to only buy when i have to, and question what i need/want…do i really or is it an outside influence making me want it. Even trips etc. I feel like i am going backwards a bit but i wanna be my own person. If i cant trust ads just vote with your economic power.

People would probably sponsor it or rent it these days. Buying was 5 years ago.

Great read. The workers need to be behind this and stand up too.
Plenty of interference and shilling from Amazon. I hope the legislation passes.

Can someone please explain the prominence of el Sayed. Is his placement a strategic or precious position?
I get that he’s progressive it’s more I am trying to get my head around American politics and why some elected are particularly important.

It feels like we are moving to the Spotify/Netflix era of games. This is not a benefit to artists and studios. They will just be noise amongst a marketplace.
- Comment on Hey Lemmy. I hate Facebook. But I miss Marketplace. So I built Garage as a means to reclaim Melb's 2nd hand marketplace from Meta (cause fuck Zuck). It's pretty new but check it out below 2 weeks ago:
I like the idea OP, and i hope you suceed, but i am curious how you hope to overcome the pitfalls of sites like this such as the flood of ’new’ tat being sold from fake cheap products to local services and the crazy buy a lifestyle book/course?
Are you going to moderate everhing on your own? that’s a heck of a responsibility
Also i am a fan of local sales, and like you hate FB. The next best for me is Op shops, car boots and antique shops. I am finding issues with the existing market in.
Ebay , local search ability, say i wanna just look at furniture, i could previously select the catogory and then filter by closest, in the last few years it takes me to a sales like page and tries to narrow me down to a object such as a chair or a table. Searching furniture’ is quite specific. So either of those ways kinda makes it so i miss out on random items. * Gumtree: * To slow and too full of other spam…want a jobs, buy your dogfood in bulk scammers etc * Vinted: * Closest ideological but it seems to be tailored to clothing and smaller items. Selling items from 2106 (primark/kmart level stuff) and listing it as vintage or rare makes me close my computer in a rage.
There is defo a space in the market for your idea i just think you need to figure the niche and be objective about resources of management.

I think it should be local. Thats the point of local pickup and sales. Its an area ebay has moved away from and gum-tree does but with no real moderation.

- Comment on Burnham to make some benefits conditional and ‘get serious’ about cutting welfare 3 weeks ago:
I have to agree, entrenched benefits do people more harm than good long term. A health heart and mind can benefit from purpose and goals. Its hard to break out of of mental health issues, but you do have to climb out. Labour have been good traditionally at keeping people doependant.

Learn how to resist and fight, even if it is quietly. We are not powerless. They monsters act this way because we have been quiet and not stood up.

You have to turn that hopelessness to motivation. I have been reading about resistance. I’m moving through anger towards determination and figuring out how I can personally contribute to change, What I can influence or control.
I defo feel more empowered.

Agree. And talking to older people about this is like swearing. they get very crazy, like crazy like you have just suggesting they broke the law and have a disease.
They then continue to complain about people’s treatment
- Comment on #StopPayingGames 1 month ago:
I have no qualms paying for products. I try make the right choices but bit by bit it becomes impossible as the tech around us becomes more authoritative, more greedy, more invasive, more enshitified, less fair.
Streaming is a great example. Nearly all of them don’t treat staff well, they use profits to lobby or abuse their positions. I am happy to pay for content. I am not happy to pay to perpetuate bad behavior. Hence I’d like have an offline collection…but if I simply can’t buy it…then it becomes a service problem.
- Comment on #StopPayingGames 1 month ago:
I would argue in some ways piracy is a progressive form of demonstration against a systematic problem, and in this case the bigger studies that milk users and take advantage of those doing the work.
So telling people not to advocate with their form of protest is a bit unfair, it takes all tactics to get change.

You could look at it as they have an alter ego (the character) to stand up and not be that person, that worrier. A form of therapy by dissociation possibly.
