I grew up with a family like this. They were extremely emotionally abusive. I was told every day that was disgusting, too sensitive, a liar, a manipulator, a failure. I was told that I could never make it on my own and even though I tried to get out, they’d say that no one would take me in as a roommate because no one can stand being around me.
After decades of being told this I believed it and my depression got worse. I stopped taking care of myself, my physical health tanked, and I lost a lot of friends by lashing out at them.
They started getting physically abusive and finally after being choked and smothered I escaped from that house and realized nothing they said was true. They were saying all that to keep my self esteem low and to keep me dependent on them.
My point is, they’re keeping you down on purpose. They are manipulating you, please try not to take their words to heart. Grey rock them if you can, and try to look for places to move to if possible. Once you find a place away from that madness, go no contact or low contact.
I can fully understand having low self esteem because someone is telling you you’re no good all the time. It’s hard to not be affected by it. But just know that you are not the problem here.
I hope you are able to find a peaceful living situation soon. It will do wonders for your mental and physical health, I promise you that.

I get it that the media is captured by billionaires but my point is that I don’t think that NBC, a television network that has been around for 100 years, would put their reputation on the line to publish lies about a random wealthy YouTuber, who likely has lawyers on retainer that could sue for libel.

I have to interact every now and then with someone who is a MrBeast stan. He’s in his 20s or 30s and has a kid of his own. He’s also a fan of xxtentacion and even when he was confronted with facts about MrBeast being a scammer and abuser, and xxtentacion beating his pregnant girlfriend, he said it was just haters making up stories. I literally linked him an NBC article about whatever current controversial shit MrBeast was up to, and he said that “y’know you really shouldn’t trust .com domains”

Admittedly it’s a bit hard to explain but they were going off on a global-warming-is-an-Al-Gore-Conspiracy rant. They have a zero sum mentality. Improving the earth “for nothing” is unacceptable because there’s no tangible reward right now, only improvement that would happen generations down the road, long after they are dead.
That’s at least how i think their mental gymnastics goes, enabling the true meaning of what I said to sail right over their head.
