I say Happy Holidays because somebody’s gotta be on the other side and I’ve been auto-assigned to that team.
So upset during the holidays!

Merry Christmas: no alliteration❌
Happy Holidays: has alliteration✅
Conclusion: Happy Holidays > Merry Christmas

I say Happy Holidays, and I’ve got a total of 6 trees in my house, outside lights, I don’t know how many nutcrackers. I must give the MAGAs serious confusion.

When greeting strangers, it’s polite to not assume they celebrate Christmas. Just like we should get in the habit of not assuming everyone is straight, white, male, and American

my dad (who is a believing christian and teaches christianity at a high school) today asked me and my siblings why it’s called chrismas, to then laughingly tell us, it’s because you get stuff on christmas (it’s a pun that does not work in english)
i like my dad :3

So is have a pleasant winter solstice. The season is the reason for the celebration. Its been the reason in all cultures throughout history. Independent of religion of any kind. Its the CINO’s who have a problem with that.

I gotta say, the folks putting up the “Put The Christ Back In Christmas” signs during the holiday season are some of the least festive and most Grinchy on the block.

They’re also wrong. Christmas is just Saturnalia rebranded/appropriated. Christ wasn’t even born in the winter according to scripture.
Santa is the reason for the season. And consumerism! And lights!

From the hotel bookings, I’d say he was born during the World Cup.

We don’t seem to have that movement here (Germany), so I’m wondering is it really about Christ or is it only against other religions or Atheists? What I mean is: Santa Clause isn’t Christian, are they against it too?
captainlezbian@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
It’s against secular Christmas, which is a major holiday in America. It’s the difference between nativities, hymns, and a certain Turkish bishop with a penchant for necromancy vs decorated trees, holiday themed pop music by Jewish singers, and a neo odinic figure with flying caribou.
Also yeah they’re mad atheists and other non Christians have a happy time at the holidays.

If you really want to scare a German with Santa Claus, tell them he’s Turkish.

Being a religious fanatic is a joyless existence.

My understanding is that phrase is used to push against people using “x-mas.” If that’s the case for those neighbors, sit them down for a PowerPoint on the Greek letter chi and it’s use.

I don’t think they actually care. It’s just something they can get mad at

Am I supposed to pick up a the birthday cake or something? Is it cheating if I use the number candles?
