It is putting them at a disadvantage. I can hear characters speaking french and pick up at least some of what they’re saying. A deaf person who knows some French should have the same opportunity as me to see the French words and interpret some of what is being said
- Comment on Subtitles 16 hours ago:
Like I said, people who happen to know the language can understand it and so should have the same chance to understand with subtitles. If the director’s intention was nobody understand it, they shouldn’t have them speak in a language people may be able to understand

I noticed this in Meet The Robinson’s. A guy says “Madames and monsuiers” and the subtitle says “speaking french” as if the average English speaker doesn’t know what those words mean
- Comment on Subtitles 18 hours ago:
This is unfair to bilingual deaf people.
For example, there’s an episode of Bluey with a lot of French. I’m really bad at French but I do know a little of it. I am able to understand some of the dialogue.
Why should a deaf person not have the same right as me to interpret dialogue in a language they happen to understand or understand bits of?

I don’t know but I think you’d enjoy the finale of 3rd Rock From The Sun. The aliens find out they’re leaving earth forever. They’re sad but make the most of it by maxing out their credit cards and having a party.
Although, the writers weren’t sure if they were coming back for another season or not. Presumably, they would have had to deal with consequences next season if they returned

That’s a bit misleading about Caprain America. Yeah, I guess the movie wants us to forgive President Ross so it’s technically correct, but he also stops being president and goes to prison
- Comment on Be a punk rocker 5 days ago:
That’s how you know President Ross isn’t Trump, Ross actually had enough honour to step down and take accountability for his crimes

It’s so frustrating. A healthy relationship should consist of both partners being able to tell the other when they’re wrong. Also, it shows that in general, not just in relationships, society has a lot of people with no sense of personal accountability who think anyone who tries to hold them accountable is toxic

It’s also kinda harmful to disabled people. The implication is they can only be accepted if they prove themselves exceptional

Month first is better because when someone says the date aloud, they start with the month “August 5th, 2026”

I hate when comedies tell us that nen should always agree with their wives even when the wife is clearly wrong and irrational. And I’m a woman. If I ever get married, I want a husband who will tell me when I’m wrong. Nobody should have to just put up with their partner behaving like an irrational lunatic without saying something.

In one episode of Abbott Elementary, Janine destroys some eggs and Ava playfully chastised her by saying “there are starving kids in America”. I’m not sure if this aired before or after the big egg shortage in 2024.

Obviously, but not everyone plays by the official rules. See the famous Monopoly example

When I read on the computer, I do it anywhere. When I read physical books, I usually read on the loveseat in my den
