On at 10 in the morning. Afterwards the soaps would come on and I’d break out the VHS that had Beetlejuice, Willow, and Princess Bride. Good times.
this is true for a few decades of 8 yr olds

I was this 8 yr old in 1965. Romper Room, TPIR, What’s My Line, soaps, soaps, soaps, local news at noon. We had, at most, 4 channels to choose from. Mickey Mouse Club in the afternoon.

Having learned to read at like four years old greatly expanded available entertainment. Iirc by around fourteen or fifteen I discovered Japanese psychological surrealism in the form of Kobo Abe, while spending days at a country house with bupkis to do except read tons of books and magazines. Which discovery definitely affected my taste for the rest of my life.

I’m in my 50s. The Price is Right and Press Your Luck were the best things about being sick on a school day. I’d haul my pillow and blanket out to the couch and snooze there when grandma watched her stories. She always made aure I was awake for those game ahows, thoigh.

I was recently watching a Pixar short film from the early 90s called Tin Toy. It has audio from The Price Is Right in the background with Bob Barjer as host. Who would’ve thought a short film from over 30 years ago would involve a tv show still running now

Hell yeah! And after The Price is Right I’d either switch to one of those trashy daytime talk shows, or Lifetime Channel because there was a very good chance that they’d be in the middle of an all-day marathon of Unsolved Mysteries reruns.

Watch The Price is Right, then snooze on the couch with the soaps as background noise.

Nickelodeon or HBO for me

Nick didn’t exist in the old days. I had HBO in my teens but sometimes they had garbage on.

I got addicted to IKEA heights in the 2010s. That Federico was a scoundrel. youtu.be/DscIhisUgn0
For the profanely ignorant, this was a soap opera filmed live in an IKEA without the store knowing.

When I was in high school it seemed that Ferris Bueller was always on Comedy Central when I was home sick.
My favorite I’m-8-and-home-sick memory involved me watching the recently unleashed Cartoon Network (this was back in 1992/93). This was when the channel was just hours of Hannah-Barbera shows. So an episode of Top Cat comes on. After it’s over, it plays again. Then again. And again. For several hours Cartoon Network was just one single episode of Top Cat on repeat. I kept it on just to see how many times it would repeat. At one point a little chyron appears along the bottom of the screen saying that there’s been some kind of technical issue and they’re working on it. Even at 8 I’m thinking that this has to be some kind of prank. I still believe this! I mean, these were the guys who would create Space Ghost: Coast to Coast in a few years. Feels very in-character for the future creators of Adult Swim to stick a random episode of Top Cat on repeat during the middle of some random weekday, thinking no one would notice. But I did. And I still think about it.

Made me literally LOL. I miss the good old days of Adult Swim so much.
