  I’m going to go out on a limb here and suggest maybe it’s not your view of life that’s getting downvoted, but how tone deaf you come off about how other people don’t necessarily hold your views.

  Despite having hobbies, interests, getting out and doing positive things, I myself (for example) still feel defeated. And how I feel is just as valid as how you feel. That doesn’t necessarily make me emo, sappy, melancholy, cynical, nor pessimistic. Yes I can be all or some of those things, but then again, so can you.

  So think on that before you start putting other people down for things you don’t necessarily understand.

  In the Sims you don’t see your Sim working, they just disappear for a bit, which was a good decision for gameplay purposes.

    I like Sims Urbz in the city where you actually get to control your Sim while they’re working. Those little mini games were actually funner than just having them disappear, to me anyway.

      Crazy that a person claiming to be so positive is looking at someone complaining about the struggles of poverty and says, “you deserve this life ✨✨✨”

      Your entire energy screams of someone who just started the degree their parents paid for. I’m not saying that’s your actual situation, but that’s what you sound like. Your super simple easy peasy solutions to all life’s problems are akin to telling a struggling fat person that all they have to do is eat less food, and if they try to explain why it isn’t so simple, that they “deserve their reality”.

  If your life is boring, it’s because you are living in a manner that isn’t enjoyable to you. Quit your shitty job and find a better one. Move to a different area if your current area it’s not pleasurable to you.

  That line shows a lack of experience. I find happy moments in life, but it’s certainly not all sunshine and rainbows. I’m currently living my life for the betterment of my family, to provide for them. I have to work a job I hate and I given up most of my free time for them. Do I hate them for it, absolutely not. Do I struggle mentally because of it, certainly.

  I can’t move because I can’t afford to find a home where I can move my family to. My mom lives with us, which makes it more complicated.

  I can’t switch jobs, because I’d have to take almost a 25% to 50% cut in pay to do what “I want” which seems selfish to make others adjust for. I stick with it and keep it mentally as a thing I have to do to provide for others.

  I question this every now and than and my own well being is less than those around me. Sucks a lot, I make the best of it. Let me be clinical about life it’s one outlet I have left, I keep myself going by taking my suffering and alternating it into a form of dark humor to lessen the blow of reality.

  If you are able to do whatever you want when you want I envy your youth or your solidarity. You’ve obviously not had to make a sacrifice yet or you have been very fortunate. Don’t punch down at people who can’t make those choices.

  Move to a different area if your current area it’s not pleasurable to you. Find a higher quality group of friends or become someone that can enjoy their own company. I could keep listening, but I’m not going to make this thread too long.

  I guess a lot of people people don’t have this opportunity because they need to work boring jobs in order to feed themselves. They should be plotting a revolution, but instead are exhausted by work and get pacified by brainless entertainment the few hours they are not either working or sleeping.

  For whoever can afford freedom there’s plenty of things to do in the world, yet a bunch of them end up bored anyway. I agree that they could often escape their boredom if they were braver.

  I always find it weird when I get downvoted for my opinion. There’s nothing in your comment that warrants the downvotes, imo. I don’t love my job but at the same time my life isn’t my job. I always told my nephews that boring people get bored and if they feel bored they need to do something about it because nobody else will.

  My life is pretty good. I enjoy myself and my days more often than I don’t, have plenty of hobbies and love learning about the world.

  However - you are wrong.

  You cannot just “quit a job”. If you are fortunate enough to not have your entire life tied to your employment via a visa sponsorship, that still means a job search in an ever-shrinking job market where increasingly peasants don’t matter as employees not even as consumers as demand and thus supply - shifts towards the ultra rich.

  Un(der)mployment is in reality - sky high and most people can’t afford necessities as is, nevermind savings, and if they can, it sure as shit doesn’t make sense to spend a rainy day fund on months of job searching for no reason other than you don’t like your current role in the ever-more-remote hope that you’ll find something better

  It’s not impossible of course, but it ain’t an easy decision to make by any means.

  Similarly moving out of the slums is not possible for most due to a housing market that prices out residents and carers towards buy-to-let investors (landleeches) and private equity portfolio builders - there are now more private equity companies in the US than there are McDonald’s, it doesn’t take being an Einstein to see what kind of dark future we’re headed for.

  I understand your frustration though and I feel similarly sometimes when people seemingly refuse to make choices that I do - e.g. quitting corpo social media, quitting algorithmic feeds, quitting using corpo products, consooming less corpo junk media, etc. etc.

  Like it’s almost existential to me in terms of crisis how anyone could fall for misinformation about a topic you even remotely think about ever when you have the world’s information at your fingertips democratised for you right there, easily indexable and searchable for free, all you need is intellectual honesty and you can learn something at least in the ballpark of accurate truth about literally anything in under an hour at most, yet people don’t.

  It’s very easy to say then, “I am super smart, others are not, that’s why I do the right things”, but I’m not satisfied with that explanation, it’s too self-serving and I just don’t buy that I’m anything like that.

  There is another explanation - more or less, people are the same, they vary in priorities, but largely are some degree of rational, if chaotic actors that navigate the same systems you do from different starting positions.

  Even when the actions seem absurd to you - there are reasons people do the things they do, the gambler and the porch parcel thief aren’t a different species of being from you, they navigate the same systems you do, but from different positions.

  Assume they are the same as you, put yourself in their shoes, and think about what could make you do what they do, and it starts to add up, you can simulate the path of another by navigating through the systems of our society from their perspective and starting point.

  This sort of systematic analysis is not easy, but it can get at things we can actually affect, the system is necessary, but not natural. The world was built this way, and just the same it can be built differently.

  So, perhaps instead of virtue signaling yourself and your own assumed superiority by pointing out how you made good choices and other people make bad choices like some sort of Christian who divides everyone into those who go to Heaven and those who go to Hell - you can ask, you can research, and think hard, because there are definitely reasons one can’t follow your suggested actions, even if they are also not an excuse to sit still and do nothing, either.

  I always think… Just imagine how much less boring (and dangerous!) life becomes if you quit your boring job.

  Obviously people choose boring rather than live in peril. But that means life doesn’t have to be boring. It’s still a choice. You just have to risk.

  I’m not very big on life myself, but to me that’s only superficially what this is about. To me it seems the negative reaction you get is because “life is boring” is an expression of personal suffering first, and a judgment about an objective, intrinsic quality of the very concept of existence second. So you have to be careful when you want to argue that boredom is not an intrinsic quality of existence because you end up invalidating an expression of personal suffering, which is generally considered gauche.

  Second, your arguments in favour of life not being boring generalizes conditions that may not be everyone’s. The ability to change jobs, move, find new friends, etc. is not necessarily universal. People who struggle with depression, in particular, may feel that your argument boils down to “pull yourself by your bootstraps”. People who are in situations of economic or social servitude will feel it comes from a situation of personal privilege.

  I wouldn’t want to convince you that life is boring, it’s a good thing that you enjoy your existence, and the very fact that you enjoy it is a proof by example. That said, I think your approach to trying to make people find good in their own lives by convincing them sight unseen that their bad experience with it is their own fault is misguided.
