Nearly 3 months into my new role and I still havenât taken a day off. I have a feeling I may be falling ill when kids have school holidays.
just_kitten@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨weeks⊠ago
Everyone I know is getting the flu or a cold one after the other. Sounds like itâs your turn coming up
Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨weeks⊠ago
Physio mostly fixed it. Yay.
Also temu order is here. Saving it till after I feed the cats.
Sit in bed, uber eats, play with Gibson, unpack temu.
Not too bad an evening
Seagoon_@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨weeks⊠ago
Winning.
tombruzzo@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨weeks⊠ago
The news feels like foreshadowing in a bad apocalypse movie and I still need to go to work
just_kitten@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨weeks⊠ago
It felt a bit like this when I was working on my thesis preso yesterday. Does any of this matter? Maybe we will be in WW3 by the end of this week. WhateverâŚ
tombruzzo@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨weeks⊠ago
It reminds me of this meme I saw when COVID started of a Venn diagram of âstill having to go to workâ and âthe end of the worldâ. It feels like weâre in that overlap again
melbaboutown@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨weeks⊠ago
Iâm desperately trying to ignore it all.
US politics
Israel has gone for Iran which I saw in passing, and looking now apparently the US might get involved. I donât really like discussing US politics but kind of wishing we werenât allied right about now
tombruzzo@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨weeks⊠ago
Yeah, Iran, the protests, the military parade. It sucks to know weâre on the side of the bad guys. It feels like one of those Lenin decade weeks so letâs hope for a similar revolution

Wanted to chill in the afternoon but fam wanted to go to High Point (kill me). At least food and coffe were okay AND it was indoors.
Yesterday wanted to chill, but son wanted to go to the gym and my neighbour asked me for some help (heâs a good one, so of course I obliged).
Working from home today but cannot be arsed going a damn thing.
Alamutjones@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨weeks⊠ago
Daylesford was cold as hell, but I lived
CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨weeks⊠ago
It is possible to freeze your arse off in Daylesford.
MeanElevator@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨weeks⊠ago
Thatâs why you need to have a cozy cottage with a fireplace in Daylesford.

26 years ago, when I was in prep/grade 1, our dance/music teacher had us sing and dance to Age of Aquarius.
26 years later, having never heard the song since, I can still remember how it goes.
LowExperience2368@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨weeks⊠ago
Time to play the song and see if you can remember the dance too
SaneMartigan@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨weeks⊠ago
I reckon every Aussie school kid starts tapping their foot out when they hear Nutbush.
StudChud@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨weeks⊠ago
I wish Tina Turner had come to Australia and done the dance lol

Periods suck (tw: menstuation and poop)
My lower abdomen cramping and bubbling like a witchâs cauldron, the heinous poos, the feeling of exhaustion. And I ground my damn teeth last night so half my brain already feels asleep.
This week is poo week.

Wait until you get older and it becomes a roulette game. Will it be light, heavy? Will it come today? Probably not and then when you least expected it, it pops in overnight when youâve got important stuff to do in the morning. Itâs your bodyâs way of saying EAT CHOCOLATE.
SaneMartigan@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨weeks⊠ago
Woke up feeling great. Getting lightly loaded on hot toddys and a bit of weed seems to have done the trick. Thanks for all the advice.
Force_majeure123@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨weeks⊠ago
I called in sick and my manager made me feel like a jerk for it đ
SpinMeAround@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨weeks⊠ago
I hate that attitude from managers. Hope youâre resting up!

Today at the Op Shop I found an original Les Paul and Mary Ford vinyl. I think itâs mono. đ đ¸

Is it too much to ask for a sock to be of normal thickness and to last at least 4 wears without getting holes?
$15 socks are not much better than $2 socks.
SaneMartigan@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨weeks⊠ago
I had www.aust-woollenmills.com and brucegoose.com.au recommended recently while looking for socks. I went with brucegoose and was disappointed that the stripey socks are significantly tighter than plain of the same size, but otherwise the socks are holding up fine.
Taleya@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨weeks⊠ago
bruce goose for normal wears, for cold weathers I gots my tradies socks
anotherspringchicken@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨weeks⊠ago
Iâve had success with macpac socks. They have them for hiking and regular thickness ones if you donât like bulky socks
LowExperience2368@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨weeks⊠ago
Work socks! Not great if you have tiny feet like mine, but still better than thin socks.
Gone are the days of getting holes in your socks.
tombruzzo@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨weeks⊠ago
Iâve got that sleep-in brainfog because I had an early one last night dealing with an obstinate child then woke up a little later than usual this morning. Iâm still feeling it
CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨weeks⊠ago
Does that mean that the non-obstinate child is your favourite today?
tombruzzo@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨weeks⊠ago
They take turns. One likes to be consistently difficult but the other likes to pitch in when things look like they could be going smoothly

getting stuff ready for my trip to nz in 2 weeks
and doing general tidying and organising
everyday there is less chaos, more done, a little more skill achieved đ
RustyRaven@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨weeks⊠ago
Having my routines messed up by moving and changing my work hours meant I didnât do washing when I should have and almost ran out of clothes. Itâs also been terrible drying weather, but I fortunately have an undercover area I can set up my clothes horse so I finally have clean and dry clothes tooday. Except for one t-shirt which got blown onto the ground and rained on.
Iâm going to do my main cleaning day before my first night shift each week, which meant I got to come home to nice fresh sheets on the bed this morning. Athough Iâm probably too exhausted at that point to really appreciate it.
After ditching my planned trip back to Melbourne last week I really have to go this week. Hopefully I can fit pretty much everything else I need into the back of the van (which will include the lawnmower which is really needed up here with the way the grass has been grrowing) but Iâll also need one more trip in a couple of weeks to organise rubbish collection for a bunch of stuff Iâm getting rid of. Iâm looking forward to not having to keep doing that drive, or at least not on my own time - there will be regular trips back on work time which are a very different thing to losing your own days off.
SpinMeAround@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨weeks⊠ago
My manager went home sick and all my motivation followed him out the gateâŚ
LowExperience2368@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨weeks⊠ago
I have had an obsession with âtoastedâ wraps this week. âToastedâ meaning I am too lazy to get the sandwich press out and clean it so I put a bit of cholesterol spread margarine in a small frying pan.
It came about after I learnt a sandwich shop in Richmond were charging $16 for a tuna melt. I tried making a tuna melt myself. Wasnât the best, but maybe that was because I didnât add lemon juice or celery.
Today was Vegemite and cheese, with a side of vegetables so I could feel better about my choices after consuming potentially too much salt. Cheese and tomato also good despite the water content of tomatoes. I wanna try mushrooms next, but I feel as though they might be too watery. Maybe some chicken.
CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨weeks⊠ago
Chicken, avo and cheese is a classic. Cheese, ham, pineapple, mushroom and tomato paste is a pizza wrap. Cheese, egg, bacon/ham is a breakfast wrap. So many possibilities.
LowExperience2368@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨weeks⊠ago
Yum.
SpinMeAround@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨weeks⊠ago
Place near my work does an amazing cheese and mushroom toastie. They add in pesto and use WAY too much marg, but itâs fucking delicious. I might need to go and get one for lunchâŚ
MeanElevator@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨weeks⊠ago
For mushroom and tomatoes, fry/grill them first before putting them into the wrap.
SaneMartigan@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨weeks⊠ago
Fry them with a bit of rosemary.
Duenan@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨weeks⊠ago
If cleaning is an issue wrap it up in foil and put into the sandwich press assuming itâs flat style type of press.
Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨weeks⊠ago
Took the day off. If I feel better later Iâll jump back online.
Fuck this.
just_kitten@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨weeks⊠ago
My turn to be out on the Bellarine today for work. Ccccold. Wimdy
Also wish I could just hop over the bay it would be so much faster. Not looking forward to the 1.5hr drive back.
On a related note, why the fuck does a modern SUV (2022) with all the driver assist shit not have automatic lights, with the lit-up display I nearly started driving without my lights on while it was dark out. Idiotic
Bottom_racer@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨weeks⊠ago
Been > a month since Iâve been down. Miss the place but not (!) looking forward to the weeds. Chilli patch is probably 90% oxalis by now :(
just_kitten@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨weeks⊠ago
Yeah looking like prime weed weather these days. I am also traipsing through rows of rubbishy windbreaks dodging African boxthorn and mats of trad.

LowExperience2368@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨weeks⊠ago
Two weeks ago, an acquaintance-y of a friend said sheâs having a birthday party this weekend and that she hopes Iâm free. Gave no details, just said it was happening. I have heard nothing from her since, and she has left the last thing I sent on read. I donât really want to go anyway. Knowing her, she will probably text me the night of asking if Iâm free, even though she is a Type A person and plans things in advance, so I donât think Iâll follow it up.
Seagoon_@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨weeks⊠ago
Good night everyone. Sweet dreams. đ

Totally bizarre online Doc appointment this morning. If I pay the extra for out of hours I expect the call to be then, eh? Missing a course I actually really wanted to do. Bollocks.
Taleya@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨weeks⊠ago
ah yes, the reaction of people when you show up with The Cane. grrrrrr.
god dammit I was going to start on the garage this week
Bottom_racer@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨weeks⊠ago
Olâ girl goes in for her colectomy tm. In for a week +.
Bit worried about the recovery as she weighs bugger all. Definitely not going in in the best of shapes. Iâve locked horns w/ the olâ boy way too many times but the main thing is food.
Dude canât cook and that will be a problem.
How the fuck you can go through life and best you can do is a crumpet or overdone steak is beyond me. Hasnât even tried once.
I understand that generation is a bit different w/ gender roles etc. but following a recipe isnât exactly hard.
Ffs, drop the âitâs a womans jobâ shit mentality and learn. Seriously stuck in the 1950âs.
Thanks for reading my rant.
Thornburywitch@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨weeks⊠ago
Local council might have assistance available - especially if itâs only for meals. If moneyâs no object, then hiring someone to come in and cook every couple of days might be a useful way to deal with this.
Eagle@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨weeks⊠ago
Light and easy are well tolerated by my older clients.
just_kitten@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨weeks⊠ago
10/10 rant except for the part where it is a very real problem đ the dickhead husband of my favourite aunt is a bit like this - he can cook some very basic meals and a couple of overspiced dishes. But it doesnât matter how sick his wife is, he cooks when he feels like it (esp if there are guests to show off to), but she is expected to always cook. Really grinds my gears. Your old man might need a bit of a slap in the face about the reality of the situationâŚ
Seagoon_@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨weeks⊠ago
get lots of ready made frozen meals
call Meals on Wheels
then let him fend for himself
of course the worry will be he will expect Olâ Girl to cook once sheâs back home
Bottom_racer@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨weeks⊠ago
Yep.
The problem is she can only eat soup, which he wonât eat. Expecting her to cook 2 different things in recovery is just not reasonable. She wants to be seen that sheâs cooking (as weird as that sounds) but sheâs increasingly making poor decisions in the kitchen.
The expectation that she cooks for him has been there for decades and itâs pretty much dangerous now (hot liquids / poor eyesight / weak etc.).
Made a whole bunch in the last few days so sheâll be fine. Just pisses me off there hasnât been an effort by olâ boy.
anotherspringchicken@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨weeks⊠ago
I went through similar stuff with my parents and I do remember a dr explaining to me that people that age are unlikely to change their ways (probably after Iâd expressed frustration about the situation), which was very hard to get my head around.
Could you stock the house up with microwaveable soups and meal packs (thereâs a few companies that deliver). Hospitals also have social workers who can help, although if your dad is in the medical field I suspect heâd be resistant to âbeing told what to doâ. Mine definitely was.
Could you enlist one of his mates or a rellie to have a quiet word? Or could your mum spend a bit of recovery time in a rehab place, if thatâs an option?
I reckon youâre across all these things but just putting them out there. Sending healing thoughts for your mum and hugs for you - itâs such a difficult situation.
SaneMartigan@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨weeks⊠ago
Arenât those meal kit boxes pretty simple? Helofresh
Thornburywitch@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨weeks⊠ago
The kit is fine. The problem here is actually turning the kit into food. Hot liquids, stove elements etc. suck a big one when vision/balance/grip strength is impaired. Remembering my mother when she started her final decline - all the elbows of her cardies were burned through where sheâd brushed them too close to the stove element ⌠it amazed us all that she didnât get seriously burned but that was the point where she had to go into residential care to keep her away from the stove.
RustyRaven@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨weeks⊠ago
Theyâre not really that simple, they do the planning and provide the ingredients but there is still a lot of actual cooking and chopping involved. They also donât do single meals, so you either need to work out how to divide it over a couple of nights cooking or have a lot of leftovers.
