Have you ever made a meal you’d be embarrassed to show a friend?
That’s the nachos I’m eating right now lol
CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 1 day ago
I’m sure I could make Italians embarrassed with my rice cooker risotto. Me embarrassed, no way. It was good.
PeelerSheila@aussie.zone 1 day ago
I was a vegetarian for about a decade when I was younger, and I made a lot of dhals and lentil and legume curries. A lot of the food I ate was outstandingly tasty but looked like baby shit lol
SaneMartigan@aussie.zone 1 day ago
I call it mud.
Duenan@aussie.zone 1 day ago
Lots of pasta in mushroom soup.
Nachos sounds like a winner though!
StudChud@aussie.zone 1 day ago
Butter sketti. Spaghetti (or favourite pasta) cooked, add a bit of butter and salt - it’s my comfort food.
It can be elevated by turning it into Aglio E Olio.
LowExperience2368@aussie.zone 1 day ago
Yum. This was a common comfort meal in my childhood! Add some cheese too in my case
LowExperience2368@aussie.zone 1 day ago
Always. Every single day.
Catfish@aussie.zone 1 day ago
I put cheese in packet Thai soup

Fun Numbers: Paid into Offset acct $141,932.00
Paid Off Loan $31,895.60
Paid in Interest $69,771.62Fuck me dead.
just_kitten@aussie.zone 1 day ago
As much as I look forward to being free from landlords, the prospect of digesting these kinds of unfathomably large numbers as a single person is also daunting. Ouch.
Sometimes I wish I wasn’t into gardening, pesky expensive thing to be involved in if you want even a little handkerchief of usable land…
StudChud@aussie.zone 1 day ago
Yeah I just sat there and dreamt about what I would do with 100k 😂 that kind of money I’ve never seen irl, my super doesn’t even have that much 😂😭💀
StudChud@aussie.zone 1 day ago
I have one quiz and one oral presentation until I’m finished with this certificate! And I’ve done most of that quiz anyway, just stick on question that the teacher had acknowledged is poorly written haha.
But after Friday, after this presentation, I’ll be done! Then I just need to find a job (any tbh) so I can pay to get lessons for driving, then I can apply for more animal industry jobs.
Everything is coming up thrillhouse!
Duenan@aussie.zone 1 day ago
That’s fabulous, you’ve done so well.
One step at a time and you’ll have it all done under no time!
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 1 day ago
yay 😄

Love a vague warning light coming on in the car. I’ll feed it some coolant when it cools down a bit, hopefully that makes it happy.
SaneMartigan@aussie.zone 1 day ago
Probably worth a quick look over to see if there’s any obvious coolant leaks, or really any obvious leaks.
tone212_@aussie.zone 1 day ago
Just finished a client proposal which took a long time to complete and I know I’m being pitted against one other business for this work. Fingers crossed it comes through to me, but we’ll see. The other business is far more established / has a team of staff so it feels like I can’t compete, but I gave it a real crack. I’ve had a few proposals fall through recently (but at least they were quick to prepare), I really hope this one doesn’t end up a huge waste of time.
CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 1 day ago
Gotta be in it to win it! Best of luck🤞
SpinMeAround@aussie.zone 1 day ago
Good luck, I hope you get it!
SpinMeAround@aussie.zone 1 day ago
Just told my manager that I’m unhappy in my role and will be looking for another job. He took it well, said he’s happy to be a reference for me and willing to work on a good timeline with me. Really appreciate that.
Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone 1 day ago
Good for you!
tombruzzo@aussie.zone 1 day ago
It’s great your manager is so understanding. Maybe it’s a hint at how they feel too
SpinMeAround@aussie.zone 1 day ago
He’s very open about a lot of things, which I really appreciate it. While he’s not at all blind to the issues, he’s happy to stay on the ride, so to speak.
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 1 day ago
I’ve finished a lot of the painting and am now setting up and organising the room . Pooped.
But once it’s done I’ll be free to do all the other things. 😊
One thing I have been doing is watching furniture repair and restoration instructional videos. It’s been good. It’s given me the nudge to be patient and get skills and the will to do jobs thoroughly. Problem now is I’m eyeing all the furniture I have that have little problems, like a wobbly leg or some scratches, and feel I should really fix them all up.

Sly Stone from Sly and the Family Stone has passed away. I’ll pour one out this Friday for the legend.
Slayers_Picks@aussie.zone 1 day ago
Copying a comment I made in the r/ sub the other day and remembered this joint. So… Here goes
Sup DT? Can I ask a very controversial question on a perhaps controversial subject (depending on who you are and perhaps political leanings).
Pride Month… This question is perhaps aimed at those within the LBGT+ community, do you like Pride Month, or do you think that it’s becoming a bit forced and you just wish society would move on and just treat you as a regular ol’ joe/jane?
Because as a straight man, whilst i’m not annoyed or angry or REEEEE about corporations/game developers or whatever with their Pride Month celebrations, I feel like it’s pretty rude to highlight a month for a group of people who just want to be treated like anyone else, and not be put on a platform every june?
I apologise if this comes off as rude, or as a “a straight man talking about pride month stuff”. I support LBGT stuff as much as the next person does.
Duenan@aussie.zone 1 day ago
I’m generally opened minded and progressive, I also work with someone who is in a same sex marriage closely.
I don’t mind it. My exposure of it generally comes from sporting events where many other topics are celebrated and I think it’s needed to highlight the importance of people being recognised out there and also the problems that still exist within society.
It was only a couple of months ago that The Trumpets of Patriots were running a hate campaign and it was utterly disgusting and tried to mirror Trump’s 2 gender campaign.
Until these things stop and discrimination totally stops it’s still needed for education and tolerance.
That’s just my take on things.
Pilk@aussie.zone 1 day ago
I answered this in the other place already, so I won’t repeat myself
How have the answers thoughtfully provided to you so far influenced your opinion?
StudChud@aussie.zone 1 day ago
I high-key love your low-key sass 🙌🏼
TheWitchofThornbury@aussie.zone 1 day ago
Interesting. I think LowExperience has made a couple of very good points here. There’s still more to do, and while there is, then having a dedicated time period to highlight the issue has some value. I find rainbow washing or black washing or green washing etc. fairly disgusting, mostly because of the exploitation factor. But then, the advertising industry and generally commerce is built around finding a demographic and targeting it. You can’t blame pond scum for being green and slimy, its just how it is, and if it wasn’t like that it wouldn’t be pond scum.
StudChud@aussie.zone 1 day ago
Okay so for context on my opinion I’ll state I am bisexual and non-binary.
I don’t participate in pride month, but I also don’t mind if game Devs/corps make it a big thing either. My sexuality has been erased or sexualised, bi ladies are “sluts and cheaters”, bi men are “closet gays and cheaters” as an example of the rhetoric that is common. There are lesbians and gays who just think we haven’t “decided”, which is wild, wild stuff. Then considering how much abuse the community suffered/suffers because of powerful bigoted dickheads or just the government’s of the past, I like that the entire LGBTQ+ spectrum is kept in people’s minds, that we can’t assume we know a person’s character because of who they love or how they see themselves. We’re free (at least in Aus) to love who we love and be who we are and that should be celebrated. I’ve been personally told that I’m not actually bi because I’m with a man (I’m AFAB), but I don’t think it’s necessary to tell them my partner’s self-ID just to clear that up or prove that I’m “worthy” of the queer alphabet soup.
On the other hand, capitalism. Companies make more money the broader their audience is, so being openly pro-LGBTQ+ and having rainbow merch or game skins means they increase their sales and profit. Then you have people who make it their whole damn identity without, like, developing their character or experiences.
I appreciate the added visibility, I dislike that it’s capitalist companies doing it for profit or clout.
LowExperience2368@aussie.zone 1 day ago
I personally see pride as a celebration of one’s sexuality / gender identity, particularly in a society where heteronormativity is prominent, and we still have people who won’t accept others due to them being LGBTQIA+. I like how it empowers people to celebrate an important aspect of their identity. I don’t like how companies participate in rainbow washing.
As with other events that are around advocacy, like NAIDOC Week, I do think we’ve got to do more than just have a week or a month for these sorts of things. But I’m glad pride exists. In some countries, it’s frowned upon or even illegal to be queer.

Ugh… sketchy random dude persistently knocking on my door with fidgety agitated body language. Not answering that.
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 1 day ago
Call the police. Say you are scared.
melbaboutown@aussie.zone 1 day ago
Yeah I called, police were really blase and kind of fobbed it off. 000 if he comes back
PeelerSheila@aussie.zone 1 day ago
No way, especially after dark. Has he gone now?

He’s gone now

Killing Heidi is playing on Gold FM.
Now I feel old lol
Pilk@aussie.zone 1 day ago
They have a gig here in a couple weeks!
StudChud@aussie.zone 1 day ago
Oh shit yeah!
LowExperience2368@aussie.zone 1 day ago
Jesse was one of my ex’s music teachers, and he brought it up all the time. I wonder if he got some sort of discount to the gig.
Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone 1 day ago
Can’t stand people like that.
StudChud@aussie.zone 1 day ago
You were taught by Jesse from Killing Heidi!?!?!?!?
That is so fucking COOL!!!

It’s been a bit of a lazy day today, but I have gotten the new garage remote programmed and put up the outdoor security cameras. I can now check if anything is happening out the front of the house without leaving my couch.
I’m trying to summon the enthusiasm to do a bit more unpacking/sorting. I’m heading back to Melbourne tomorrow to pick up another load of stuff, hopefully I can at least get the remaining things from the fridge/freezer and the most important things from the shed.
RustyRaven@aussie.zone 1 day ago
I just received what was supposed to be a dustpan and brush set from Temu. They’ve sent me a vibration platform exercise machine instead. The Australian warehouses don’t seem to be that great at sending the right thing.
The machine is pink and has a cat decoration on it. I’d suspect Miss Meow was involved somehow if I couldn’t see the order history…
Taleya@aussie.zone 1 day ago
can confirm, cats love those things. I have one, and ours like to clamber all over it
Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone 1 day ago
I’m so up for this random shit with my order that’s on the way. Let the mystery packages begin!
RustyRaven@aussie.zone 1 day ago
I haven’t had much issue with the wrong thing being delivered until I started getting stuff from the Australian warehouses. They seem to like sending me completely different but more expensive items.

Vegetable and bean stew for dinner last night and for lunch today. My musical contributions are… not very welcome in the office. But the stew is so full of goodness! 2 carrots, 1 large swede, 1 small parsnip, 1 whole leek, a small stick of celery, tomato paste, and just 1 medium potat. But like 2 cups of dried kidney beans. I’ll just have to go on strategic breaks…
MeanElevator@aussie.zone 1 day ago
That stew is the definition of ‘hearty’.
just_kitten@aussie.zone 1 day ago
Did the job with filling up my gut with all the required goodies that will now be processed accordingly.
Dinner is gonna be a greasy fried rice to offset all that goodness

Well neither melatonin or Restavit work very well. I’ve just bought some actual caffeinated coffee to have in the mornings in the hopes that will help.
Unfortunately there’s the risk of aggravating anxiety and my stomach. I wish I’d been able to get one of those tiny 50g jars
melbourne_wanderer@aussie.zone 1 day ago
you have to order from the US, but sleep aid (which is basically American Benadryl) is an antihistamine like Restavit but a bit more powerful.
just_kitten@aussie.zone 1 day ago
I’m ahead of schedule on work but so behind on my thesis, lalalala… At least I’m winning at something in life. Had a wee chat about options after and there’s some leeway for working remotely but it depends on what comes in. Boss is very sympathetic to my wanting a break from Melbourne to help reset things. It’s just that the next few months are very uncertain in terms of workload so, we’ll have to see.
Might be an ad-hoc/super part time thing while I’m away which is good enough at this point.
MeanElevator@aussie.zone 1 day ago
Love long weekends, hate the weeks after.
Cannot be arsed with anything today.

Slept terribly last night because a work thought popped into my brain at 11pm and I spent the rest of the night stressing, despite reminding myself that in that moment, there was nothing I could do to change the outcome.
Duenan@aussie.zone 1 day ago
Welp I just did the stupidest thing.
Was trying to find something and thought I had packed it into a box or cupboard so I’ve torn the place apart trying to find it.
2 hours later I give and look on my recliner and find I put it there last week and forgot about it.
🤦♂️
Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone 1 day ago
Slept 12 hours. Feel a bit better but not in the best of moods :(
Am trying to find something to do to keep me busy but it’s really hard.

Hi everyone, here’s your reminder it is actually Tuesday and not Monday at the start of this working week.

Nearing the end of looking after hambam.
Seen a big shift in behaviour over the last 3 and a bit weeks. All it took was wearing him out and giving him more off lead freedom.
I’ll miss his burps and random little sleep / dream woofing throughout the night.
