I haven’t found Microsoft Documentation for anything since Word for Mac 5 on my Apple Centris 650 in 1992, and I only had that because it came in a printed book.
So this is on par with the Microsoft way: Let other people charge you for outdated help.

Which windows app are you referring to?
andybytes@programming.dev 1 month ago
I don’t use Microsoft…

i usually press win+r and type ‘calc’ or ‘cmd’. they could make that more efficient by assigning binary numbers to everything.

Will it still be port 3389? I think that’s what it is but I’m too lazy to look it up.

Can anyone recommend a Remote Desktop client for macOS, preferably something free and with tabs?

Windows App

What will it take for them to finally lose market share?
wetbeardhairs@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 months ago
I’m seeing mini pcs for sale for basically the same price as a windows license. They must be quite literally giving them away at this point to compete with Linux.
Bytemeister@lemmy.world 2 months ago
When Windows 12 is also sucks.
TBF, they are probably losing a little bit. I’m in the process of jumping to Linux, and I started on Microsoft operating systems at age 4.
Quexotic@infosec.pub 1 month ago
Kinda same. I’ve been MS for a long time. Moving towards Linux daily

Whatever? Just use a 3rd-party remote client, like any sane person would do. Microsoft is bad at software design.
BastingChemina@slrpnk.net 2 months ago
What do you use that is better than windows remote desktop ?
MonkderVierte@lemmy.ml 2 months ago
Better is relative but i found xrdp easy to use. You give it the link on cli/shortcut, it opens the window with the remote and be done.

Yep had this issue a while back now took a bunch of searching just to find it so crazy.

Christ, it was stupid when they renamed it on macOS… this is just embarrassing now.
klay@lemm.ee 2 months ago
Wait. Is this a push to use their AI more? Like i can’t google for Remote Desktop help with the new name easily anymore so i would use the ai, which already sees that i opened the app and has a context advantage?
dual_sport_dork@lemmy.world 1 month ago
When it’s all the same you can ask for it by name.
golden_zealot@lemmy.ml 1 month ago
As long as they havent renamed the back end name, can probably still search for information relating to it by referring to it as mstsc.exe.
panicnow@lemmy.world 1 month ago
I hate that they renamed it on iOS but not Mac. Now my fingers can’t remember just one thing.
kamen@lemmy.world 1 month ago
Can’t not think of Apple who have been doing simple names like this forever. But contrary to this here, it seems to work in the Apple ecosystem because over there things like that mean one thing.
ThatGuy46475@lemmy.world 1 month ago
“Help with numbers”
“Help with excel”
kamen@lemmy.world 1 month ago
Yeah, some of them like this one are not very well thought out, but I think for the most part they are - and when you put them in context, they should be searchable too. I’m saying this as someone who has never owned anything from Apple and who generally dislikes the brand.

Ever since Ford renamed all car components to car components it has been a total bitch to change a tire…
Me: hello jiffy lube, I have a flat car components.
JL: Well bring it right in, we’ll fix that for you
Me: here’s the car with the flat car components.
JL: oh I see, you’ve been in an accident. Yeah we don’t fix that sort of flat car components. Go to Joe Shmow’s Auto repair.
JSAR: yah, I looked everywhere for a fix to flat components and found nothing worth trying. Cat videos yeah. But maybe if we hammer a few more things.
Me: but that’s the problem see this is supposed to be a dowel car component, but its flat. It used to be the thing a ma bob. But now its just another car components.
…the conversation would then drag on and included the economy, and politics.
