The speed at which you are connected to the internet via your ISP is only part of the path to youtube’s content servers. You could easily have a fast connection to an ISP with a congested uplink, you could be located a long way from the nearest google CDN, or that CDN could be overloaded.

I think that depends on the nature of the work, but also whether it’s a regular pattern of being late.

Further, if you don’t need 8 hours to finish the work, then nobody should care if you’re there or not, as long as your outcomes are achieved.
- Comment on I've noticed a lot of UK job applications use the American MM/DD/YYYY date format and some also say "resume" instead of CV. Does that annoy you if you're British? 5 weeks ago:
I work for an international company based in the US, but I am not in the US myself. I have been trying for years to get our American colleagues to use three letter abbreviations for the month to avoid ambiguity, for example in global emails. With a couple of small exceptions, I have been unsuccessful in convincing them of the need to be clear in their written communication to people in the rest of the world.

Nope. It’s the 12th of December . Just like the 4th of July.

The field isn’t located at the north or south pole - you’re not 400km away from it, you’re immersed inside the field, and your compass is showing the local alignment of that field.
Just about anything with an EM field of its own will be stronger than that.
- Comment on No need to boil the ocean 1 month ago:
The earth’s magnetic field is nuch weaker than a simple coil in a transformer, as can be easily demonstrated by holding a compass near said device and watching the needle align with that instead of the earth.

The cost is in the lost productivity from having someone off work with injuries. A barbecue every 6 months seems like a bargain.

The issue is that you’re starting from earth, and the earth already has a lot of momentum that keeps it from falling into the sun. To get an object from here to the sun you would need to counter the majority of that momentum it already has.
