Guess he and his Scrubs buddies got tired of doing T-Mobile commercials.

Half this show was about gay, dick, and fart jokes. Will be an interesting reboot.
NocturnalMorning@lemmy.world 2 months ago
Not everything was like that. In fact, the first season had almost none of that stuff, arguably my favorite season before they started making sillier and sillier jokes.
njm1314@lemmy.world 2 months ago
Well yeah he said half

I don’t think ending each episode with a monologue over an indie song will work today
FooBarrington@lemmy.world 2 months ago
Or is that just what we tell ourselves to cope with your broken promises and dreams?

I never liked scrubs that much. First two or so seasons were alright, but the slapstick and fast forward slide whistle humor was rough. I don’t see how any of that would remotely hold up today when there are so many really good shows are out. Scrubs had a place because streaming wasn’t athing yet.

I could have done without all the flanderization.

I always just watched it when nothing else was on lol

Another reboot?
scrubbles@poptalk.scrubbles.tech 2 months ago
I was going to say, wait another reboot?
Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 2 months ago
A reboot, you say?
Ledericas@lemm.ee 2 months ago
reboots rarely work out, especially done so “soon” after a series ended.
LadyButterfly@lazysoci.al 2 months ago
Yep I just can’t see this working
Ledericas@lemm.ee 2 months ago
especially with the executives or another showrunner trying to push a agenda based on current issues, it almost always ruin the show.
VaalaVasaVarde@sopuli.xyz 2 months ago
Then Zach should play Bob Kelso in the reboot.

I hope he comes back as JD, but now he’s older and wiser and just as jaded as Dr. Cox, basically fulfilling the same role Cox did.
zipzoopaboop@lemmynsfw.com 2 months ago
And cox pops in once in a while eating muffins?
FooBarrington@lemmy.world 2 months ago
I want him to play JD playing Dr. Cox
SatansMaggotyCumFart@lemmy.world 2 months ago
I hear he’s a never-nude.
InverseParallax@lemmy.world 2 months ago
Oh fuck you dude, now I need to start another rewatch.
mindbleach@sh.itjust.works 2 months ago
Should be fun. Lean into the difference in experience as a mature professional. Get some perspective on why Dr. Cox is Like That.

Idk, Scrubs ended at season 8 for me. Maybe I’ll give it a chance, but I’m keeping expectations (really) low. Reading the article, it seems like it could be worthwhile if it really is just a season or two of “old friends” getting back together for a little fun. We’ll see, but it looks like Braff is the only one signed up for now, and that won’t really sell it for me
ArtVandelay@lemmy.world 2 months ago
Season 8 is where show runner Bill Lawrence wanted it to end. The only reason there was ever a season 9 is because it was supposed to be a spin-off, but the ghouls at the network insisted it carry the Scrubs branding.

The title “Scrubs: Med School” is fine for me as a spinoff. Different performance of the intro song, fine. We’ve got a new POV character, a new gang as it were, younger, even younger than the original crew, they’re not first day interns, they’re med school students, so they’re even more raw and incomplete as people, they’ve got earlier lessons to learn.
They didn’t give the first series time to rest, they had no faith in the new concept or the new cast, so they bring back a lot of the old cast to…exist? They had all gotten one of TV’s biggest “and they lived happily ever after”'s, so they’re not really able to have growth moments and drama of their own, they mostly serve as rocks for the new cast to bash themselves against.
If they’d given it a few years to let the audience start wanting more, and then focused entirely on the new crew with maybe one of the original actors in a recurring role (like have Cox or Turk as the hospital administrator, Kelso’s role) and maybe have other characters return as single episode guest stars the way Michael J. Fox and Dick Van Dyke did, and you know, have any faith in the concept at all, it would have gone 4 seasons.

I think I will reserve judgement until I see it. A getting-the-gang-back-together series or two could be a good time, or it could be another “Scrubs: Med School”.
Stillwater@sh.itjust.works 2 months ago
When has one of these reboots worked?
zipzoopaboop@lemmynsfw.com 2 months ago
Futurama reboot(s) are good. Not quite up to original run but good
Dave@lemmy.nz 2 months ago
I don’t know about others, but I kinda liked Picard. It was clear it was just an excuse to get the old gang back together, but it was enjoyable to watch.
I’m not sure how enjoyable it would have been to someone unfamiliar with TNG, but I enjoyed it.

Twin Peaks X-Men 97 Samurai Jack Veronica Mars - get decent reviews? (Still have yet to watch the series) But I hear there was mixed reviews on however it ended Cobra Kai - lasted 6 seasons Girl Meets World - Seems to have a decent score and I remember not totally hating it when my niece was watching it. Fraiser - I hear people like this
pinball_wizard@lemmy.zip 2 months ago
An example that comes to mind is the “reboot as new show but with blatant fan service cameos” formula used by “The Big Bag Theory”, “Young Sheldon”, and “Georgie’s First Marriage”.
Another “Mission Impossible” - the first movie was a weak adaptation of the original show, but the series has gone on to become a completely worthy extension of the original show.
And…well…That’s two. So I night just be sharing the exceptions that prove the rule.
