Not from State Farm. Sorry to disappoint. I’m just a half-Iranian American exploring the fediverse. I am interested in science, tech, philosophy, animals, comedy, a wide range of music, and even politics. Though the politics in my country are plain depressing atm.

I guess it is a US problem only, for all I know it is a result of our mad president’s war against the world.

Tragic. And their brushes were $15-$20 a piece is very reasonable.

Hmm I can’t seem to find any in stock anywhere.

Does Vie-Long not produce horse hair shave brushes anymore? I can’t find a single seller with horse hair brushes in stock anymore and the only Vie-Long branded brushes I have found are either synthetic or badger.

Unfortunately, most websites I have seen don’t bother to specify the specific alloy formulation they use.

It’s gorgeous, out of my price range but gorgeous.

The inclusion of Lead might be an issue.

Then why are stainless steel razors often more expensive than brass? Also with its lower melting point means it can be cast and I have heard machining stainless steel is difficult to machine.

Personally I like the color of polished bronze and brass. It is like gold plating without having to be paranoid about damaging literal gold.

I am not asking about blades but the razor handle and head.

I have a Merkur Futur clone that I use on the 5 setting. I should probably measure the blade gap.

Yeah I saw this, even in each category there are over 5 different razors.

Does anyone have knowledge of Razorock’s DE line up? As far as I understand it, the heads and handles are interchangeable and other than one being an open comb, I don’t know the meaningful difference between their 10+ heads.

Finally used The old man I found at an antique store after cleaning and applying some linseed oil. Used a Wilkinson Sword with it. Got a few bleeds and razor rash but it was very effective at taking down my beard. I think I’ll save it for longer growth.

It being stamped sheet metal makes perfect sense. The reviews I have seen don’t mention it but they are too busy saying it is “great for the price!”.

The Razorock razors seem to be sold in both an aluminum and stainless steel versions for different prices obviously. Though their stainless razors all seem to be ~$60 usd.

So I have been looking around for budget stainless steel razors and one that popped was the Swiss Shave Black Tiger which claims to be “100% steel” and is priced at $7.50. This price immediately raised red flags for me as is it far below any of the closest equivalent razors I have found and is cheaper than most zamak razors. What is catch? There has to be one.

If you look up “gillette new long comb”, the handles are identical. What makes me think the plates might be knockoff is the lack of maker’s mark.
- Comment on Antique razor ID help 3 weeks ago:
Yeah either way it was cheaper than buying a brand new razor and doesn’t consume more resources.
- Comment on Antique razor ID help 3 weeks ago:
It looks like it might be a knock off Gillette Long Comb. The handle is the same but the plates are slightly different.
- Comment on Antique razor ID help 3 weeks ago:
That eBay listing is almost identical. Could the base plate have been swapped out?
- Comment on Antique razor ID help 3 weeks ago:
If you zoom into the second photo, there is a serial number on the top of the base plate. But that is it.
