Went out for a b-day (mine!!) dinner to Kumo Izakaya today
Holy. Fucking. Shit.
Been a hot minute since I’ve enjoyed a meal so much.
Everything we had, slapped. Slapped hard.
Only gripe, tempura didn’t have a mayo dip.
First world complaints right there.
LowExperience2368@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Happy birthday!
Did you end up getting the set menu?
MeanElevator@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Went a la carte and loved it all
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Happy Birthday. 🥰🎂🍾💐
Kumo on Lygon st?
I should check it out.
MeanElevator@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Thank you and yes you should
It’s great and reasonably priced for what it is .
Not cheap, but not stupid either.
PeelerSheila@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Hey happy birthday! Glad you had a good time!
underwatermagpies@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
My Aldi had a full egg section this morning. I haven’t seen that in yonks. I was tempted to buy some just because they were there, but I refrained, I already have some.
CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
That’s very sensible of you. I would’ve panic bought them.
Duenan@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Mine was wiped on Thursday. I shamefully bought some from Woolies today.

Broke out the hose to do a bit of watering for the aunt. Super nice little overgrown but not thing going on:
Complete privacy.
Doing well for a late 70 yr old.
A lot of the gardens here follow a similar format (lots of box hedges, bluestone paths and shit), but hers also has an element of chaos.
Hambam wasn’t a fan of the hose.
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
that’s lovely , a cool green haven 🥰
I see there are some tiger lilies in pots that haven’t bloomed yet and toms and basil , and maybe some tree dahlias?
it’s just so nice
dumblederp@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Nice garden, I’m not a fan of those interrupted paths but.
Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
interrupted paths but
Neither. Also not a fan of bluestone for paths… Ruined my day in the CBD more times than I can count.

Jesus I feel like the oldest dad at this play center with the youngest kid. Everyone else looks like they are in their late 20s with 4 year olds!
Eagle@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Wait until your pregnancy is labelled ‘geriatric’!
anotherspringchicken@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Yeah, that one’s not the kindest description
PeelerSheila@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
I felt that a lot doing the school drop-off and pickup. So many are Lycra clad 20s-30s talking about their day spa appointments and bathroom renovations. I used to make odd small talk with the grandparents there, or just keep to myself. Felt very much not a part of it.
Eagle@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
I make more friends with the grandparents too!
just_kitten@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Looks like Brisbane is really starting to feel Alfred’s penetration after days of being edged… landfall on the mainland in about 6 hours or so… pretty big bands smashing the GC and northern NSW. Poor northern NSW, they just don’t seem to be able to catch a break.

Climax: ruined
just_kitten@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Still heaps of places with no power so that’s fun. And a lot of persistent wetness to come …
useless_modern_god@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Anyone have a parent forget your birthday?
just_kitten@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Yeah, my rather useless dad has always gotten it wrong by a few days since I was a teen
Catfish@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Yes, though dementia is a very good excuse. Partner forgetting is a different bucket of fish.
StudChud@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Lol my partner’s ADHD makes him forget the specific date and year, but he knows I’m in April because he is too 😂 he tries, and I know he feels terrible. I don’t fault him for it though, he’s forgotten his parents and siblings birthdays as well which cuts him up something harsh.
I imagine it will resolve after his assessments and treatment, but even if it doesn’t, it doesn’t bother me personally.
If my DAD forgot my birthday, though (barring medical reasons), I’d be VERY upset!
useless_modern_god@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Hmm yeah I guess it could be a bit like that. Ah well what can you do.
Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Probably the most interrupted sleep I’ve had in a while thanks to hams. Dude just wouldn’t sleep and kept walking around.
Too hot for ball throwing at the park today :( maybe a little sesh at sunset. Was having a read on collies temp tolerance and consensus seems about 24c max. I thought it’d be higher. Last night even after just a few small throws the rapid panting started. Looking at the forecast he’s gonna be bored shitless for a bit.
They need a hose / kiddie pool for dogs at the park.

If plain meat pies were all sold out what would be your next choice? Mine is always curry.
RustyRaven@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Why didn’t you ask this question yesterday when I had a pie for lunch? Now I’m reading all these pie comments and wanting to have a pie instead of the pizza roll I have. (and for the record, yesterday’s pie was beef and mushroom).
CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Cos it only came to me today when I was eating my curry pie. It was delicious btw.
Duenan@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Curry or meat and mushroom or onion would be my go to.
TheWitchofThornbury@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Those yummy Tasmanian curried scallop pies. Yumerama.
RustyRaven@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
There are so many good choices, I find it really hard to make that sort of decision.
I have been getting some pies lately that are the leftovers the bakery didn’t sell and I get to have a surprise pie, which works for me. They are all good, although the chicken contains a few peas which must be picked out. Strangely enough Miss Meow thought the peas were quite yummy and ate them all.
Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
I’d go for David Blackmore’s wagyu rib-eye, Kobe brisket, WA rock lobster, French truffles, German gold flake, and Penfolds Grange gravy ‘surf and turf’ pie. $12,000 :)
Or
Chilli Beef & Cheese Pie
TinyBreak@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Chicken Kiev or hickory beef probably.
useless_modern_god@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
I like beef and jalapeño
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
chicken and mushroom
Force_majeure123@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Good choice. I might go for beef cheese and bacon
PeelerSheila@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Curry, pepper or onion.
underwatermagpies@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
My local does a fab mushroom and cheese pie, it’s my fave.

Call Me By Your Name :
Released in 2017 starring Timothée Chalamet and Armie Hammer
Basically It’s a coming of age love story between the two. They are intellectual, artistic, and confident for their age and you can sense the sexual tension fairly early on between the two but, at first, I felt let down by the pacing and aimlessness of the story. It meanders like a long wine soaked lunch in a country town.
Eventually, I became comfortable with the pace of life portrayed and ultimately fascinated by the bond these two characters developed.
Chalamet gives an astonishing portrayal of a young man both confused and totally confident with his sexuality. I had no idea because I’ve only seen his work in the Dune series and that doesn’t really showcase his range.
A pleasant surprise at the movies tonight
5/5 apricots 😉
dumblederp@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
William Tell. Pretty generic peasant vs nobility medieval story. Felt a lot like Braveheart, Rob Roy, Robin Hood, etc. Not bad but forgettable. 2/5.
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
I watched Exodus with Paul Newman and Eve Saint Marie a few times recently. I’m still not sure what to make of it. It shows good human stories and explains the events surrounding the creation of Israel accurately. It treats everyone with respect and understanding. I suppose in that regard it did what it was meant to do.
4 hobbits
useless_modern_god@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
I have not heard of that one. Looking at the wiki, the musical score received the most accolades.
4 hobbit is a pretty good I might put it on the list.
Catfish@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
This bit is fun

2 load of washing done. ‘lawns’ mowed (including leaf blower heh heh) sorry meanelevator. Garden watered. Sewing machine set up ready for some serious winter jarmie action. Maybe the time has come to attempt a pirate shirt (with thanks to Ms Banner).
just_kitten@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Just watched Mickey 17. It’s no Parasite but it’s very entertaining and Robert Pattinson somehow manages to transcend into a new and admirable realm of memedom.
Now to go wolf down some dinner
TinyBreak@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Asking “is it good?” Is a bit pointless when he’s only eaten the naan.
useless_modern_god@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Steak, roasted potato, asparagus, and black beans for dinner. Basic. Good.
dumblederp@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Pizza for dinner after the talk recently of it. The local place has been dropping in quality for a while, they’re still not as good as they were. Maybe suffering the costs of living on ingredients themselves, but for the price and calories, I think I’m done with the place.
just_kitten@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
I forced myself out even though I had already lost a couple hours and all up the driving probably took longer than the fieldwork. It’s okay. Every bit counts. I finished up the furthest section at least so no need to go all the way there again. Next round: finish the last undone area, then redo like 30 records with bad data. And then on some cloudy day I’ll have to go back to remeasure about 70 records in mm, not cm… and that’s that council area done. Got a whole stack more to do north side. Might be pushing it to finish it by the end of this month but I’ll do my best.

Dog owners of the dt, I have a question. A friend of Mr P called in with their tan and white border collie rescue. She (the dog) was used for breeding at a puppy farm and she was scared of outside, had never been out for a run until this friend got her. Anyway, I got down to her level and patted her and she just sat there pushing her forehead (?) against my knee in steady constant pressure. She didn’t move for ages. It absolutely melted my heart, but what does this body language mean?
just_kitten@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
I don’t WANNA go out and collect data 😭 I’ve already procrastinated half the day away and it’s hot and I’m meeting a friend later today and I’m tired and and and…
… But it might be cloudy tomorrow and probably will be on Monday so even at this late juncture I will force myself to go. Just do even two hours. gaaaah

Ugh there’s a guy my partner used to work with a few years ago. Partner and I would hang out with him and the other coworkers often, going to the pub and having a good time. But this particular dude was (is?) a massive weed-head, which doesn’t bother me at all except when we’d all be quite tipsy and drunk he’d constantly ask partner and I for weed. It got to the point where I would avoid going, because it was every single time. I even told him a few times how utterly annoying it was, and showed him how to get BM weed, showed him how to apply for medical if he needed it - and still!
He’s been messaging me recently on messenger, to hang out, meet his new girl, whatever, and I just can’t. Partner is fine with that, too, and partner can’t respond because he has a dumb phone 😂
I have the chat on mute, and see he messages when I go to check my other messages. I feel bad, but also feel a bit burned and don’t feel like putting myself in his company in case it gets awkward and he begs for weed again. I think it just makes me feel used, that partner and I aren’t actually friends with him, were just a means to an end. And I don’t want to meet him, have him beg, and me lose my shit in front of his gf lol.
Idk I just needed to vent that out 😂

Shopping done. Vegetation commenced

Those mozzie coils did work. Not a single bite even though I was wearing shorts.
Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Ahhh I love staying up late lol
LowExperience2368@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Friend spontaneously suggested shopping trip, and I found some clothes I actually liked! That was a rarity, but it’s nice to know that I have a couple of outfits for the professional setting now :) Excitement!

there is a loud doof doof bday party across the lane tonight. It’s a good party, lots of laughing and dancing and flashing lights. 🙂
just_kitten@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Oh shiiiiii, this week’s Severence might have been a bit flat but The Pitt just absolutely blew the fuck up, holy shit. This show is simultaneously so hard to watch and so freaking good.
Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Off to gym. They didn’t debit the right account so we’ll see if my access card works.
Then video games
Learning songs for new band
And generally chilling out. Heading out to Moomba tomorrow night, so quiet one this evening.

a day punching holes in masonry is reminding me why I am mounting twintrack everywhere in the fucking garage.
Unfortunately said twintrack needs to be mounted on said masonry.
PeelerSheila@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
I’ve gotten up, got the dishwasher on, made a coffee for anyone that wanted one and snuck back to bed pending further requests lol.
