Apparently AliExpress sells meat and vegetables now. I’m sure the site selling $4 “2TB” SD Cards is going to sell some super high quality “frozen” “wagyu” beef

You’re not tempted? 😹
Baku@aussie.zone 2 months ago
Maybe a little. Apparently in the states, Amazon has cold bags and delivers ice cream and such as well. That’d be kinds cool. I reckon these would likely be delivered though one of those on demand uber courier thingies. Doubt they’re using a reputable company to deliver knockoff steaks

I thought it wouldn’t take long to make some patchwork cushions. I’m 6 hours in. 🤯 Looks like I’ll be working on them the next few evenings. Handcrafts take so long.

What’s the best concert you’ve ever been too?
calhoon2005@aussie.zone 2 months ago
Oh man…so may incredible shows…
Pearl Jam in 95 over the fence at the Myer Music Bowl
Radiohead at Festival Hall touring Ok Computer
Funkadelic at Byron whilst on acid
The National at the Palais front row
Local Natives at the Corner
Glen Hansard with the Frames at the Recital Centre
Neil Young at Myer Music Bowl touring Greendale, centre 3 rows back
Flaming Lips at Festival Hall in 2005… I got a ticket for 2025 baby!
Baku@aussie.zone 2 months ago
If I may ask politely (as someone who doesn’t do concerts), why were they all incredible? And how many others have you been to? Is it just cause you like the bands, or did they do something unique/special?
LowExperience2368@aussie.zone 2 months ago
Funkadelic on acid would’ve gone HARD
useless_modern_god@aussie.zone 2 months ago
Speaking of LSD, I once made an attempt at seeing the Grateful Dead.
We got to the venue, this much is certain. After that is Gods own private mystery.

I saw the Greendale tour in Canada a few months before moving here…so so good

This is going to date me even more. Back in the early 70s was at the Troubador in Carlton one night with friends for quite another act, and who should walk in the door but Glen Campbell. He asked mgt if he could do a couple of tunes in the interval between sets. Man that guy could play, even on a borrowed guitar. Was a fantastic night. Mr Campbell ended up playing audience requests and works in progress. Audience maybe 20 people??? and they had to kick us all out at 3 am cos we’d overstayed their licence by enough hours to get the mgt in real trouble. And we were all hoarse from singing along. And he came with us to Stalactites afterwards for pizza. Nicest bloke imaginable.
tombruzzo@aussie.zone 2 months ago
That’s a hard one. I’m lucky so many of the shows I’ve been to have been good.
I’m in the crowd for Iron Maiden at the moment and last time I saw them they were great as well
useless_modern_god@aussie.zone 2 months ago
Oh nice. Please report back later with review if possible.
MeanElevator@aussie.zone 2 months ago
Rage against the machine - threw my hat at the stage and Zach re la Rocha wore it for a bit before giving it back to me. Gave it Security and singled me out as the owner
Pearl Jam - cause it was pearl jam
Paul McCartney - cause he’s Paul McCartney
Rolling Stones - cause I won tickets and there were 500 people in the audience

Too many shows to have a fave. Each one has little stories that I can’t really put above all. What about you?

Does Fat Freddys Drop in the back yard of Pure Pop Records in St Kilda count?
SpinMeAround@aussie.zone 2 months ago
Oooh. Watsky because it was a kickass experience. One Republic because I love the band. The Killers because they put on a helluva show.
Catfish@aussie.zone 2 months ago
Difficult call between Cyndi Lauper She Bop anniversary, and Flogging Molly. Neither are my utter favourite artist but the way they ran the shows was amazing. Whole experience rather than just seeing songs.
Catfish@aussie.zone 2 months ago
Oh and a highly honourable mention to what I believe was the second last ever Prodigy show.
StudChud@aussie.zone 2 months ago
Toss up between seeing Cotton, Keyes, and Morris in the 2000s singing all their hits and dancing with the audience.
And Montaigne at the Croxton on her Complex album tour.
Llabyrinthine@aussie.zone 2 months ago
So many good ones listed here.
I have multiple excellent memories of both single gigs and festivals: Faith No More, The Cure, The Tea Party, The National, Placebo, Portishead, Iron Maiden, Portishead, Korn, SoaD etc. Even Def Leppard hahahaha.
Buuutt… One of my most memorable has to be Tori Amos at Hamer Hall. More so because I wasn’t a mad fan. I can’t remember what song it was but I had this a weird emotional reponse. Like all the music poured in me and the emotion wanted to pour out…
It’s weird to describe… An emotional orgasm, perhaps? 🤣
It was amazing through.
I have to say hearing your favourite songs by any band you love never gets old.

I found an original LP of the Lawrence of Arabia movie score. It’s a bit crackly but that’s because it’s been in a bad record sleeve. I have a huge supply of special sleeves now and all my LPs are carefully cleaned, the sleeves replaced and the cardboard cover cleaned and repaired if need be. The humidity of the room is still a bit low tho, that cause crackle too must water the pot plant.
tombruzzo@aussie.zone 2 months ago
Any other tips for cleaning crackly records? I bought a cheap second hand Six Wives of King Henry The Eighth and it’s very crackly.
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 2 months ago
Not really. Most crackly playing isn’t usually about the record per se but about static caused by the atmospheric conditions and ionisation of the LP by the sleeve.

I need to source a single good sized round rock (to paint up as a pet) my usual walks to work etc aren’t passing any gardens with such to steal. Cunning thoughts?
TheWitchofThornbury@aussie.zone 2 months ago
Try local creek beds. Merri Creek has a good few in the shallows all along its length. The creek bed below Rushall Station has a gully leading up towards the station and could be a good source. Also the creek below Ceres. Also railway lines - the Mernda line north of Croxton has lots of rocks lying around the siding. They’re blue metal - like the sleepers are bedded into. Dunno if such would be pet friendly.
Please don’t go out to the rock fences in the north - these are valuable reptile habitat and the local herpetologists will burn you in effigy if you nick any rocks from those fences.SituationCake@aussie.zone 2 months ago
You could take a day trip to somewhere like the gold fields region, or surf coast. Lots of rocks to be found on bush walks, beachside, or even just side of the road. Depends what colour or if you want craggy or smooth.

Can anyone recommend a decent bean bag?
I have wanted one for ages -just need a bit of flexible seating for the apartment. But I don’t really like the super synthetic material+polystyrene options and if I search for anything “eco friendly” I am looking at hundreds of dollars… Not keen on second hand (and I tend to keep things for YEARS).
TheWitchofThornbury@aussie.zone 2 months ago
Many years go, when beanbags were first popular back in the 70s, I made one from corduroy. Lasted for quite a few years and was very comfortable. Would recommend getting a cheapie of the right shape from Kmart, ripping it along the seams and use the pieces for a pattern. Interior slightly smaller bag to hold the beans recommended. Then the outer bag can be washed as required. Linen for the outer bag would be nice, and very durable.
imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone 2 months ago
Yes I have been thinking about this. I am completely useless with a sewing machine but maybe I could convince a mate to help…
