If I rotate this picture 180°, it looks pretty much the same as the one in the OP.

It’s not fake, just processed differently.

If you turn this upside down and squint a little, you get the skull from the image above!
Bishma@discuss.tchncs.de 1 month ago
Ok, that’s the skull. Now how how aliens would reconstruct the Nebula’s face, vs the Nabula’s actual face.
kamenlady@lemmy.world 1 month ago
For me, the bare skull does imply some derpyness. I think it’s the position of the eyeholes.

Also the mouth makes it look like it’s going “huh.”

“Some say”
Those who say it doesn’t look like a skull must be dumb
PunnyName@lemmy.world 1 month ago
Could be face blind. Or have a lack of pareidolia.

I mostly really dont like the use of “depicts” here. Depicts means is a representation of, which is just wrong and feels a little too close to creationist. “Resembles” would be better.
kamenlady@lemmy.world 1 month ago
I think they’re using the ancient-aliens narration style.

All of these kinds of photos are doctored because the raw data isn’t as interesting.

I feel like, if Bill Nye ever drops a metal album…
This should be the album art.

I just watched a bunch of baby monkey videos, so it just looks like a baby monkey to me.

Researchers are ecstatic at the prospect that they may have finally discovered the region of space from which Ozzy Osbourne came to this planet.

It’s called the Voivod.
