You know who would have been great in Smile 2? This guy.

I was/am genuinely shocked. I realize my bile is a form of gatekeeping, but I can’t help myself. I watched it, having no prior knowledge of it, formed an opinion, went to IMDb and was in disbelief.
I have three kids, one teen and two pre-teens and I’m REALLY familiar with Disney-style acting. There was a LOT of it in Smile 2.

I guess I was looking for a horror movie. You know, something scary. There was nothing scary about this movie (jumpscares excluded). Those dancers in her room, moving toward her with smiles on their faces? What the hell was that? That was the most high-school production value (with professional dancers I’m sure) scene over ever seen in a horror movie. The “twists” in this movie were always pointless. There was HUGE blocks of time dedicated to scenes that didn’t add anything to the narrative or backstory or tension or anything.
Such indulgent schlock.

Just watched it and I feel like it was REALLY good, but maybe not to expectations.
Tap for spoiler
Did Lee die when she got the phone message? Did the Joker die, or was that only the death of Arthur Fleck? Was there significance to Arthur denying Joker 3 times?
I feel like there’s a lot of layers to be peeled off this onion.

Longlegs. Weak. Not worst but maybe, biggest disappointment?

The veteran I met today, in the post.

It’s interesting that the link you posted indicates the purple hearts he received were probably part of the surplus manufactured in WWII, in anticipation of the losses the expected in the invasion of Japan, which never happened.

Thank you for kindly bringing my attention to that error. It was a very important point and I’m glad I was able to correct it.

No. I didn’t. I guess if that was required I missed my chance. Not bothered.

Avatar. James Cameron’s avatar. I still can’t believe anyone watch that movie and was engaged. It was as ridiculous a concept as I’ve ever seen and as non-immersive a movie as I’ve ever experienced.

7.3 on IMDb. I don’t remember much about it but I remember watching it and liking it except for the ending. The ending was a total wreck and made the entire movie a waste of time. I guess that’s why some people were looking for a sequel.
Did you dislike it because you had a reference and it didn’t live up to it or did you just dislike it as a movie?

I’m completely on board with language evolving, and usage changing. Perhaps this is a case of that. I’m not sure yet; it may not be.
I know there are vocal people who WANT that to be the case. Are there enough to tip the scales and change general usage? Dunno. Also, there doesn’t seem to be a ready alternative for now.

But surely if male/female is appropriate for EVERY OTHER ANIMAL, we’re a bit silly to exclude ourselves.
The “mutt,” “bitch,” and “stud” examples aren’t all purpose and therefore aren’t germane - you’d be using words for a specific species. That’d be weird.

Chicks? Gals? Women? Dames? Ladies? Sheilas? Lassies?
Words man. They aren’t all insults. Sometimes it’s ancillary, just trying to convey information. We’re majoring in the minors. It’s a dirty joke. You’re worried about the group pronoun they’re using? I agree female has a little bit of the m’lady feel to it. But come on, let’s overlook that.
Unless we want to use group pronouns like we do with animals. A herd of cows. A murder of crows. An annoyance of pronoun correctors.
