I can’t either. It’s the texture. Bamboo is okay though if you can find them.
bull@aussie.zone 9 months ago
I was very against them and bought steel straws to carry around but now I can tolerate them with my iced coffee on the road.
I do still have a stash of plastic ones I brought home from America last year in my pantry. I haven’t thought to use any yet (don’t use straws at home).

Of the 8 hours I’ve been trying to sleep, I reckon I’ve slept for 2 maybe 3 hours. I’m going slowly insane.
Force_majeure123@aussie.zone 9 months ago
I’ve had three or four of those nights in the last fortnight. Very not fun 😔 I don’t really have any advice, just sympathy. It’s brutal
Duenan@aussie.zone 9 months ago
I haven’t been sleeping well the last 2-3 nights, Was really wired yesterday at work.
Going to get some food and coffee and see if that makes me feel better this morning.
dumblederp@aussie.zone 9 months ago
Disease or baby?
TinyBreak@aussie.zone 9 months ago
Nah kid is fine, but don’t think it’s the Covid either.
melbaboutown@aussie.zone 9 months ago
Great. Meta are using user data to train their AI and Australians can’t opt out www.abc.net.au/news/2024-06-10/…/103958308
TinyBreak@aussie.zone 9 months ago
Yeah that tracks. A reminder: if a product is free and you cant figure out how they make money then YOU are how the product makes money.
Nath@aussie.zone 9 months ago
Just for the benefit of anyone who doesn’t know: aussie.zone is “free” because we (the users) pay for it. We don’t need to serve you ads.
We won’t sell what you say or upload, either - but keep in mind that everything you say here is federated and essentially public. Someone will probably come along at some point and scrape all our data. We won’t know it has happened and the open nature of the fediverse makes it impossible to prevent. So keep all that in mind.
melbaboutown@aussie.zone 9 months ago
Indeed, and I did hear that many years ago. I interpreted that to mean that ads would be served. And potentially they would also spy on you to serve target ads.
However they’re taking data from as far back as 2007 and nobody knew about AI back then. Changing the terms (often retroactively) and not allowing opt out is not cool and you won’t convince me that anybody signed up for this. The overreach is insane.
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 9 months ago
just another reason I am glad I have neither
melbaboutown@aussie.zone 9 months ago
I used FB to keep in touch with friends but don’t use it now because it’s turned to garbage. Getting really sick of mainstream social media
CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 9 months ago
I’ve got all my ingredients for my full english breakfast it’s just a matter of when (which won’t be for breakfast because I can’t be bothered in the mornings).
Taleya@aussie.zone 9 months ago
Today’s question: i know you can get sub-meter circuits for mains. But can you get ones with safety switches built in? 🤔
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 9 months ago
A medieval pikestaff type pikestaff? Cool. 👍
Taleya@aussie.zone 9 months ago
technically a pike pole I suppose, but this looks like a home built jobbo of the kind designed to do horrible things or possibly someone who got way into their kid playing Roman Centurion #3 at easter and had genX levels of child safety in mind.
…but let’s be honest, who’s gonna argue semantics with the woman wielding a chunk of spiked and curved metal on a 50mm diameter shaft?
Duenan@aussie.zone 9 months ago
I fully fell asleep on the couch in my oodie while I had the radio on listening to the footy.
Just started to feel waves of drowsiness taking over me then I was out like a light for maybe an hour.
Also the garlic toast I made and had might have had too much garlic.
I have the breath of death now.
just_kitten@aussie.zone 9 months ago
Sounds like your body needed the rest to recharge from the week’s stress? It’s good that you were able to relax though. This weather definitely makes it easy to not do very much at all. It’s not even 5pm and I’m seriously feeling like falling asleep as well. Low power mode…
bull@aussie.zone 9 months ago
Aaaand I changed my mind again and I’m now at a resort in NSW which looks suspiciously like a motel. Nice though. Has Foxtel so I’ve got the NRL on and a nice cold beverage.
They even have stubby holders!
useless_modern_god@aussie.zone 9 months ago
Try The Sebel next time. Slightly better views
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 9 months ago
beautiful day out there, those rays are going to do a world of good 🌞
Duenan@aussie.zone 9 months ago
I’m surprised by the sun. It’s nice when it comes out.
Makes me feels slightly brighter and happier.

After some vacuuming, mopping and cleaning the outside of my windows I honestly feel like I’m boiling!!!
Windows aren’t perfectly spotless on the outside but I’ve gotten the worst off.
Duenan@aussie.zone 9 months ago
Went out and managed to pick up some chicken drumsticks early in the morning with a gift card.
Couldn’t sleep so went out early while it wasnt crowded so chicken’s on the menu tomorrow I think.
Had mostly vivid weird dream as well.
Something involving me telling someone off for blocking and emergency vehicle and not letting them pass then my boss pulled me aside to tell me I shouldn’t have been so angry with them and to calm down.
Cendana@aussie.zone 9 months ago
What does everyone carry while out and about on a normal day?
For me, the standard keys, phone, wallet… and a 20k power bank, charging cables, tissues, mints, and a couple of items for my wife.
bacon@aussie.zone 9 months ago
cards, phone, keys, water, juice box, compass, whistle, a few coins, twist ties, bulldog clips, power bank, cable, pills, mint, plushie, hand sanitiser, toothbrush, toothpaste, plastic bag, shopping bag, pens, book
Cendana@aussie.zone 9 months ago
Aww you’re so sweet with the cat photo.
You should probably also carry a bacon snack everywhere you go too.
Gibsonisafluffybutt@aussie.zone 9 months ago
My people (turtles) demand I show reverence to our ancestors, so I carry a backpack everywhere at all times.
Cendana@aussie.zone 9 months ago
Remember, Gibson is also your boss. 🐱
whatisthislifeilead@aussie.zone 9 months ago
Nicotine, valium, vicodin, marijuana, ecstasy, and alcohol
(seriously: wallet, water bottle, phone, keys, mints, hand sanitizer and headphones)
Cendana@aussie.zone 9 months ago
Haven’t seen you in a while, nice to see you on Lemmy. -waves-
Force_majeure123@aussie.zone 9 months ago
Phone, wallet, nicotine lozenges, couple of tissues
tombruzzo@aussie.zone 9 months ago
I’m a wallet, phone, keys guy. No bag, and nothing more than my pockets can carry
TinyBreak@aussie.zone 9 months ago
Toss in AirPods and yep that’s me too.
Aradina@lemmy.ml 9 months ago
Phone, house key, every receipt I’ve absentmindedly shoved into my bag over the years
Cendana@aussie.zone 9 months ago
Now’s the time to clear it out. 😅
Baku@aussie.zone 9 months ago
Depends if I’m travelling light or heavy. Light day out (shops or quick trip) phone, wallet, keys, maybe headphones or earbuds. Heavy (all day outing) phone, 2 powerbanks, charger (cable + brick), panadol, headphones, water bottle, light snack (unless I’m planning on eating out), change of underwear and sometimes shirt
I also keep a go bag in case things go south and I need to bail quickly which contains all of the above + 2 changes of clothes, some cash, a few snacks, and an extra powerbank (so 3 in total)
Cendana@aussie.zone 9 months ago
So many power banks. What’s the capacity of each?
I’ll talk to my wife about doing up a go bag or two together.
imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone 9 months ago
Phone wallet keys, notebook, pens, water bottle, mask, earbuds, sunnies (I live in hope)
Duenan@aussie.zone 9 months ago
Phone, keys, wallet though I want to carry that less and less these days.
tone212_@aussie.zone 9 months ago
Phone and keys mainly, a Myki card and headphones if I’m using PT. If I’ve got a shoulder bag with me, might have my wallet, gum, a snack.
Catfish@aussie.zone 9 months ago
Keys, phone, calico bag, mask, meds, lip balm!!!, work pass, purse, powder, emergency sew kit, nail file, chewing gum.
bull@aussie.zone 9 months ago
Phone, keys and a go-get’em attitude usually
Pilk@aussie.zone 9 months ago
Phone, keys, ear buds, reusable bag.
Haven’t carried a wallet around in years.

I was wondering if there was a function for threads to be bumped back up to the top when posted in? Just so there isn’t a lot of duplicates and similar stuff is gathered into one thread.
No worries if not - I don’t know how much work implementing that would be or if there’s even the option on Lemmy.
Aradina@lemmy.ml 9 months ago
I’m not sure if it is. Activity will bump threads when the person looking is sorting by active, but I don’t think there’s a way to bump them otherwise.
melbaboutown@aussie.zone 9 months ago
That’s good, maybe not as easy to encourage other people to add to the threads but it’s good for when you want to find active threads yourself
melbaboutown@aussie.zone 9 months ago
Does anyone have suggestions for vacuum space bags that stay compressed please? The budget ones I bought somehow keep reinflating themselves no matter how carefully I seal them.
Thornburywitch@aussie.zone 9 months ago
Slightly different fats used in its construction. Velvet is just as good and much cheaper imo. Velvet is lard based, Sard uses the lighter fraction hydrocarbons left over after petrol production. As does Pears soap. Generic brands usually use either lard or palm oil - you pays your money and takes your pick.
Eagle@aussie.zone 9 months ago
Does Howard’s storage world still exist? I have old vac seal bags from there that are still sealed 10 years later. Cheaper newer ones barely last a week.
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 9 months ago
Bigw sells the same ones as Howards for $39
just_kitten@aussie.zone 9 months ago
Pretty therapeutic cleaning out my carport after 3.5 years 😬 binned a whole lot of old crap from my old work car, swept up a huge pile of leaves, dust and debris, removed the years of neglect. Now it’s unrecognisably clean and tidy! So much less depressing to look at! I’m sure my neighbours will be happy too.
Aint much for a Saturday but I definitely feel like I’ve earned the right to chill for the rest of the day. Not gonna push myself too hard this weekend…
Drusenija@lemmy.world 9 months ago
You’ve achieved something you wanted to get done, don’t belittle that! Enjoy your chill afternoon 😊
